2013 F Austin Nichols (Memphis Briarcrest)

So, it had nothing to do with Memphis 15 first half TO's that allowed UL to get in the game? Or the fact UM stupidly shot 17 three's? Or the fact Memphis had 24 TO's total to UoL's 12...and UoL had 29 points off turnovers.

Yes, Louisville had 32 free throws in the second half. However, half of those were in the final two minutes with Memphis trying to get to slow the game down. 16 FT's in 18 minutes is nowhere near getting all the calls.

Besides, the first half was called evenly, Louisville had only a +2 FT advantage in the first half.

Memphis had a lot of TOs (so did Louisville), but how many of Memphis' TOs came off "iffy" offensive foul calls?? I can think of 4 off the top of my head.

If you don't recall, Memphis was up 7 in the first half. The poor foul calls came mostly in the second half, although I can remember quite a few in the first.

Before the final 2 minutes or so (when the intentional fouls started), Louisville had already shot 20 more FTs than Memphis.

Yes I remember. Louisville took the ball to the hole. Memphis had a bunch of their paint points in the first half and stopped. They settled for outside shots. It also helped Russ Smith came back and played effective.

Louisville, if you take out the final two minutes, shot the same amount of free throws in the second than they did the first. 16 to 16. So basically they were calling it the same for Louisville both ways.

Memphis also shot the same amount of free throws in the first half or second (give or take 1 or 2). There were a some questionable calls favored in Louisville. But Memphis got some calls in the first half when the crowd was going insane (and they were great BTW).

To say Louisville got outplayed though is crazy.

Two things:

1) Louisville had a +15 advantage, not 20.

2) Louisville only had 12 turnovers and Memphis 14 points off turnovers. With that crazy pace, especially in the first half, L'Ville did a great job protecting the ball.

I'm just going from memory, watched the game twice: late in the second half, when Louisville had stretched their lead to 6 or so, the Cards had shot 20 more FTs than Memphis.

Louisville's offense was good, and very efficient. Louisville also wasn't getting these wonky offensive fouls that Memphis' guards were getting called for. Again, there were 4-5 on Jackson and Johnson alone that I can recall.

Despite the TOs imbalance in the first half, Memphis was up 7 at half time. Then the fouls came, which forced Memphis to switch to zone on defense (one of the reasons, at least), which left UL with better looks from 3.

After watching and rewatching, I'm proud of our guys. Came out with good energy and outplayed one of the best teams in the NCAA. Those refs won't be officiating our future games, so keep playing like that and things will take care of themselves.

I just thought you were above blaming the refs for a loss, that's usually left to the teenage boys and girls.

I just calls em like I see em. At the end of the day, UL won, Memphis lost. But if it took a team as stellar as Louisville that kind of advantage to walk out with the win, then Memphis is in good shape going forward.

0-11 record says otherwise.
Pitino vs. Pastie is like Ali vs.Pee Wee Herman.

I'd blame a lot of things (3's, TOs, coaching) wayyyyy before I would get to the refs. As I said, blaming the loss on the refs is usually left to the teenage crowd, just expected more from you.

I'd say go watch the replay of the game.

But i get it, you're just here to wheedle.

The irony is that you bump the Austin Nichols thread to do this, thus reminding the board of your claim that "Austin Nichols is a Vol Lock".

The irony is then compounded by the mention of "teenagers", repeatedly; a subject which you are well-versed, being the creepy stranger who contacts said teenagers.

Get your shots in after Memphis losses, we get it. There won't be many so you gotta make them count.

I watched the game, twice, no need to watch Memphis blow the game again. Were there questionable calls, sure, but that stuff happens you gotta adjust. Memphis started jacking 3's and had twice as many TOs as UL, that's why they lost not because of the refs. Blaming the refs just makes you look like a 16 year old girl on her period, kinda sore loserish if you will.

And you're right, playing in C-USA there won't be many I'd hope. Then again with Pasty as your coach we've all learned anything is possible.

Wow, didn't think you'd be more upset at a Memphis loss than me but...

I'm not sure who's the bigger basketball junkie - the Memphis fan who rematches games his team lost or the Tennessee fan who rematches games not involving the Vols. BTO, I bet you're nasty in office bracket pools.

I watched the game and the Tiger fans whining about the officials only confirms to me they are still giant tools. Tigers players were getting fouls called on them because they were out of position and reaching too often.

not the least bit mad, I love seeing my predictions about Pastner being proven right. You and others tried to defend him to the death and said this was the year, well so far this year is just like his other 3, underachieving and no wins vs a ranked team.

It's funny; losing close to a quality opponent is the only thing Memphis will have to brag about for the rest of the season. If I'm a fan and my coach hasn't beaten a single ranked opponent in three years I'm not sure I'd ever consider my team in "good shape going forward."

Pretty good chance you can make that 4 years now, they likely won't play another ranked opponent the rest of the year.

Doesn't apply to the offensive fouls.
