2013 F Austin Nichols (Memphis Briarcrest)

RT @SportsCenter: BREAKING: Sources: 7 schools agree to leave Big East: Marquette, DePaul, St. John's, Georgetown, Providence, Seton Hall, Villanova.

UConn and Cincy are going to land somewhere together IMO. Maybe the B1G. Not sure what happens with Memphis and Temple.

UConn has a chance to get in the B1G.

Cincy has none. Their academics aren't up to their standards.

Memphis needs to beg the Big 12 to let them in.

Cincy is an outstanding academic school. I don't know if this is something you've heard, or you know all the numbers, but I would be shocked if the quality of academics holds Cincy back from anything.

Seriously? Can't say that I am an expert on knowing what schools are great academically, but I don't think I have ever see Cincy and good academics in the same sentence.

Well I was trying very hard to get into their master's program for music composition. I can tell you all for a fact that Cincy's CCM is a top-notch music school, up there with Indiana, Peabody, Rochester, etc.

According to USNews, they're ranked 139 in all universities (public and private). They may not be stellar as a whole (as I first thought), but they are definitely not lacking in academics.

So now vultures troll everyone? The analogy still fails the way you've described it.

I also never claimed that Memphis was going to the ACC. Now you're just manufacturing things.

Some UM fans on here have claimed that the Big East was the top hoops league. It may not have been you who said that, but in my post that you replied to, I didn't say that you said that. I referenced UM fans generally. So, I didn't "manufacture" anything.

Regarding the vulture analogy, my point is that it's goofy to accuse Vol fans who make light of UM's situation on VN of being vultures. A vulture goes looking for something that's dead. BTO didn't go looking for a UM fan. He's on VN. You came here. If you walk inside our house, we're not "vultures" for making light of your situation with the Big East.

UC has a good law school too. It was Top 60 in the USA as of 2003.

Right about now Memphis is trying to become a Catholic school so they can leave with the other schools.

Will the last team out of the Big East please turn out the lights...

This thread didn't miraculously resucitate itself. That's all I'm sayin'.

The average USNews rank for ACC school, pre-Louisville, was around 50 though. I assume that the B1G is about the same, maybe a bit below.

Cincy isn't a poor academic institution, and like UKVols said, it's law school is good. One of three I was considering back in 05. I'ts other grad programs are good as well.

But when held up to the ACC schools, it doesn't make the cut. Or at least, it doesn't have the Louisville-esque athletic programs to counterbalance its academics.

lol at Memphis State. But seriously OVC might be y'all's best bet. Thoughts?

Rumors of Memphis, UConn, Cincy, USF, Temple, UCF, SDSU, Boise forming a new all-sports league, and leaving behind the Big East brand. Grabbing some MWC teams like New Mexico and UNLV, then regrettably some old C-USA teams.

That's probably the best realistic bet for Memphis. Things would change if UConn or Cincy get called up to the big leagues.

I kinda like the idea of the new league. Throwback to the old Metro League.

The travel would be brutal but it sounds like a good option for Memphis. UConn and Cincy will likely get picked up by the Big 12 or Big 10 or ACC.

That sounds like a decent option for a football league, especially if they have an East/West divisional split, but the travel costs for other sports teams would add up.

All signs point to the Big East breaking up, and the father of Memphis commit Austin Nichols (Eads, Tenn./Briarcrest High) isn't too happy about it. The Tigers, currently in Conference USA, were set to join the almost-defunct conference next season.

"Memphis going to the Big East played a role in Austin choosing Memphis, not necessarily a big, big role," Mark Nichols told Jerry Meyer of 247 Sports. "But we knew Memphis was coming out of Conference USA to go to the Big East, and that was a plus. We could have gone to the ACC or anywhere, but everyone was saying Memphis is going to the Big East.

"Someone needs to get a grip on this situation. Enough is enough. I'm a little bent out of shape. I'm not happy about it. It irritates me that these young kids make a decision and are bound by it, and then these big schools are jumping wherever they want to go."

Other players and coaches Meyer spoke with seemed to have little issue with the move. Whether or not the conference's future impacts other recruits remains to be seen, though it's certainly something to keep an eye on.

Uh oh...

I wish they'd just come out and say that Austin had no part in this decision. His dad is looking more and more like an idiot. Stop speaking to the media.

His dad seems like a D*CK. I understand wanting the best for your child, but part of growing up is making your own decisions and learning to deal with the outcomes of those decisions.

Be a mentor, not a control freak. I hope Memphis is truly what Austin wanted and he sticks by that regardless of their conference affiliation.

^ if you read the comments, yes he's obviously upset. Doesn't mean he's going to throw away his wardrobe though....He flat out said "I'm bent out of shape" lol

Can't say I blame him though. He pushed his son to sign with a coach who is in his 4th year and still can't beat a ranked team, and a school that is going to be in a conference similar to C-USA after thinking they'd be in the big east.
