Which is why I said likely. Pastner will have to win a game in the tourney most likely to face a ranked team, and we all know how likely that is.
If 4 years of history were a sufficient sample size to make predictions like this, that would mean that you expect CCM to never make an NCAA tournament, right?
You're not turning on Martin, are you?
Has Martin beaten a ranked opponent?
I'm simply going of probabilities. Pastner has underachieved all 3 years, he is doing it again. He hasn't beaten a ranked team in 3 years and it appears he will fail to again. He hasn't won a NCAA game in 3 years, so....I'm saying I wouldn't hold my breath on him changing that streak this year.
Would you honestly feel comfortable putting down 10k that Pastner wins a NCAA game this year? I wouldn't.
Has he been to the NCAA's?
Based on history, I guess Martin will never go, right? That's what you're arguing.
No Clark that's not what I'm arguing. Unlike Pastner, Martin has shown that he may actually improve as a coach and break the trend. Pastner in year 4, looks very similar to Pastner in year 1. Martin in year 2 already looks better than he did in year 1 at UT.
One seems to be trending upwards, the other at best, seems to be staying on the same plane.
If you need help...
Last year through 8 games...
3-5
Best win: UNC Greensboro
Bad Losses: Austin Peay & Oakland
This year through 8 games...
5-3
Best win: #23 Wichita State
Bad Losses: none
Stevie Wonder could see the improvement my friend.
Well, if you're just giving up on the discussion, then so am I. But for discussion's sake...
Why are you comparing the December 2012 Vols to the December 2011 Vols and not the March 2012 Vols?
I hope so. But the SEC is down this season, and will probably only get about 5 teams in. UT is among several playing for that 5th spot. I'm pulling for them.
The SEC being down works two ways. It limits the chances of an RPI-boosting win, but it also increases the odds of a good conference record. UT's RPI is at a point where avoiding a bad loss out of conference and finishing in the Top 4-5 of the league should be enough.
