Not near the level of Memphis'
Of the guys averaging double digit minutes...
5* x 1
4* x 3
3* x 2
2* x 3
I don't "love" Pastner, and I'll be as vocal as anyone about his shortcomings.
But if you're going to "point out a weakness" like he hasn't beaten any top 25 teams (as if that has ANY meaning at all, as I've gone over before), then turn around and equivocate about him beating a top 25 team, you should be able to see how dumb that looks.
Again, you guys (The Vols) were crowing about lack of "top 25 wins". Seems when Pastner gets one, someone tries to move the target.
That's all I'm trying to say.
The only ranking system that mattered once the tournament started was the seeds, and they were an 11. IDK why that's hard to understand. The Selection Committee decided St. Mary's was overrated in the coaches poll and placed them in a play-in game.
Would this be better...Pastner has 0 wins against the AP Top 25. Now, we don't have to debate whether or not the coaches poll means anything after Selection Sunday.
You should be able to see how bad it looks for you to argue semantics over whether or not he has ONE top 25 win at a program like Memphis. I honestly thought U of M fans were more prideful of their program.
I'm trying to say that it's ridiculous to worry about top 25 wins AT ALL. The "Top 25" is hardly a measure of how good a team is.
In games away from their home arenas, Pastner and Martin have the same number of top 25 wins. Now you tell me, how telling is that stat?
In the first 6 of the rotation we will have 2 5stars, 3 4stars, and 1 3 star. How does that look on paper? We have never had a first 6 with those credentials.
The Elite 8 team (2009-10) had two 5 stars (J.P. and Scotty) 3 4-stars (Chism, Cam and Kenny Hall) and two 3 stars (Brian Williams and Bobby Maze) in the regular rotation. There were three other four stars - Tyler Smith, Negedu and Swiper on the roster at one time or another.
The 2010-11 team had two fives stars (Scotty and Tobias), four stars Hall, Maymon, Cam, Renaldo, Trae Golden and Jordan McRae). That's the team that wiped out Pitt and Villanova before the NCAA hammer came down.
The 2008-09 team had two five stars - Scotty & JP, 4-stars Tyler Smith, Cam Tatum, Wayne Chism, Emmanuel Negedu, Renaldo Woolridge and Philip Jurick.
OK, man. I gotcha. So, if I can get this straight, the current knock on Pastner is that "he hasn't beaten any teams ranked in the top 25 of the AP poll or Coaches poll during the season, or beaten the top 25 seeded teams during the tournament, even though he's beaten top 25 teams in the AP/Coaches poll during the tournament, and teams that went on to the Sweet 16 during the season, but those don't count."
Does that sum it up? Brilliant, but a little wordy.
