Josh has to cherry pick local guys being that he can't sign all of them. As for Nichols, most Memphians know that the Tigers don't have a chance at signing him so it's no big deal. He's a private school kid, and his parents are UT alumni which didn't help the Tigers at all. I was shocked that the Tigers were recruiting him. Hubbs is a good player, but if we sign King plus the addition of Geron Johnson and Damien Wilson then there really isn't a need for Hubbs. The Tigers needs consist of PG, PF, and C more than another SG/SF type of player.

If you're really going to act like pastner wasn't beating down hubbs door an begging for him then you don't have a clue. Hubbs is night and day better than Wilson.

Ok so jw3 and king should both be Memphis locks then correct?

If either have a brain they'll go elsewhere and actually be on a succesful team, instead of a team constantly underachieving.

I don't share the same opinion as you. Miller is extremely involved in the AAU circuit in the area (hosting teams, tournaments, etc...) so you could pretty much make an argument that all the elite talent in the area is involved with him or someone in his family one way or another. Also, Donovan recruited Elliot Williams and I'm certain Billy D was in contact with White from Ole Miss and didn't sniff on any of those players. In fact, i'm pretty sure the Gators were one of the first team's cut from Elliots list. And did Robert Hubbs commit to Florida? I must of missed something because I didn't hear he had.

I don't think this argument works well if you are a Memphis or Kentucky fan. Judging by your past post and location, I would assume you are a Gator fan? Sooooo I'm pretty sure the other poster was cracking jokes because maybe UT and Florida both had an available scholarship? Just reading between the lines man :good!:

And Memphis isn't even pursuing JW3 at this point, I think.

Hard to argue the truth though. In the end, it doesn't matter though. Vols got a hell of a player.

From words that came directly from hubbs mouth. They may not be on him as hard anymore, but they most absolutely were in the beginning.

I don't have one, do you? The fact you 2 seem to seriously think that Pastner hand picks his guys and gets exactly who he wants is ludicrous. Every guy you miss on or that proclaims Memphis is no longer a favorite, you all have an excuse for and say we didn't want anyways.

I don't know if I would call it handpicking Memphis recruits but there are some kids that are set on going somewhere other than Memphis. Someone like a Robert O'Kelley from '97. He was never going to go to Memphis. He wanted to go somewhere with a great education tradition and a good basketball tradition. I think Nichols is somewhat in this same boat. Josh knows he would be wasting his time if he spent too much effort/time on Nichols. And then you have some situations like Thaddeus Young.

I get the Nichols that makes sense to me...

But players like jw3 and hubbs especially...a few months ago Memphis fans were drooling over them and proclaiming they were the leaders. Now all of a sudden it's, oh we don't want them anymore thats why they're not mentioning us in their top schools.

Same thing will happen with king, if god forbid he chooses to go elsewhere. All of a sudden Memphis fans will start claiming pastner no longer wanted him and that why he didn't come to Memphis.

That act just gets old. Pastner is a hell of a recruiter, but he's not calipari. And hell as we're probably about to find out this year, even calipari doesn't land every single guy he wants. It's ok to miss on guys you want, but damn dont be a sore loser and say you missed on them because you didnt want them.

Also, please link me to where Hubbs said Memphis is all over him. The staff has visited his HS games, but the reason going round that Memphis fell out of favor is that Pastner wasn't making him enough of a priority for his family's liking. I personally think it's a mistake by Pastner to not give Hubbs a lot of attention, but that's the story out of Dyer Co.

I believe the term you used was "cherry picked" actually.

If you have a scout or rivals account then you can read this it was on one of those iirc, it may have actually been a video. As I said, maybe they cooled recently, but for awhile they were hard after him.

This is why Pastner needs to be very careful on which local kids he brings in. Kids with good families (like Adonis) are one thing. When you have an uncle of a player running down the steps to get physical with the S&C coach who was breaking up a near fight, then you have issues IMO.
