Who said anything about pay for play?
If you spend all summer when you're 16 and 17 playing for a coach every day and traveling around the country, that coach will have an influence with some players. Especially when that adult is well-connected and well-funded.
And the fact that Austin put Auburn on his list once Ryan Miller took a job there proves that his AAU coach does have some level of influence over the process.
This is the way recruiting works. It's very rarely simple.
The Nichols family and Austin are smart enough to not allow his decision to be affected by the bs you speak about. They won't be manipulated that way. If a kid has no home structure and the aau coach is basically his dad, your point is valid. In this instance, you're off.
