2013 F Austin Nichols (Memphis Briarcrest)

As good a shot as any at this point, especially after Crawford's committment puts the squeeze on other area recruits.

I had heard they weren't exactly BFF's, not sure if that's the case or not though. I know he plays with J Johnson at southwind though.

From what I've heard it's 1. UT 2. G-town 3. Memphis...FWIW

Yep, also, he and King play for Bluff City AAU, King's commitment could work wonders.

Per low-life sources and a SWAG, little or no chance Nichols comes to Memphis. Still viewed as last on his short list of (no order) UT, Duke, Auburn, VA, UF, and Tigers.

Crawford commit viewed as small +, but nothing that would affect Nichols' decision. Believe if it was gonna' happen, would have been immediately following unofficial and Crawford commit. Info shows UM right where it was. J. Martin/CA tweets 10% UM chance; I think it's less.

Only game-changer would be Hubbs to UM; give that one a -10%. Absolutely no talk of Hubbs; but remember, he's not viewed as "Memphis". Strange how that works.

Sounds about right, Memphis faithful got their hopes up a little too quick. Should know better than to listen to anything easterwood and Parrish say.

Nothing ground breaking here...

“@WillGunter247: 2013 PF Austin Nichols has narrowed his list to Auburn, Memphis, Virginia, Vanderbilt, Tennessee and Duke per his father.”

I don't think you can throw GP in the KE category. Not close. I wish GP would drop KE from his radio show.

Having KE on his show automatically dropped his credibility some IMO. Parrish seems more concerned about stirring the pot, and drawing headlines than relaying the truth.

Is it safe to say we are still in the lead for Austin?

I still believe its Tennessee and Duke and then a big gap to the 3rd team. Everything that's important to Nichols, or so he says, goes in Tennessee's favor, but you can't dismiss K.

If I had to lay money, I'd say the favorite right now would be UT.

Also TIFWIW, but apparently jarnell is good friends with Austin's twin sister Ashley, and her "posse" who obviously is at UT. Not a huge deal, but it's worth noting IMO.

Austin is huge on family, and being away from home is hard for him. To have his sister and friend in jarnell at UT, and apparently his sister being friends with jarnell, it just seems like a pretty good fit.

Like I said, nothing huge, but worth noting IMO.

This thread is huge so just gonna ask a question I know has already been answered. Has Nichols indicated he wants to commit during the early period or is he going to wait till next year to sign.

Initially it was early, then recently it was late, I'm not sure he has decided himself yet.

He wants to take all his visits, so you figure thatll take a bit. Hearing september 8th visit to UVA, and I've heard sept 15th visit to UT. If he does all his visits in September, he may actually committ and sign early.

His sister hot?

Early according to a recent article.

Nichols stopped far short of eliminating any of those national powers from contention, however. It's important to remember that Austin doesn't even have a list of finalists yet. That will change very soon.

"Yeah, we've got to get to work and cut this list down," Mark Nichols admitted. "It's not going to be easy. But I want to get this process over with so my son doesn't have to worry about it all season long. My wife and I don't want this hanging over his head. Austin will sign early so he can concentrate on his senior season."

That's right after his visit to UM.

That's good news thanks for the update, I knew he was sayjng early, then I read something late, but this sounds pretty certain.

If he takes all his visits in September definitely likely it sounds hell committ around October and sign in November.

IMO that's good news for us, hubbs is signing early also he has said. Would be great to ink those 2 in the early signing period.

Still think this basically eliminates duke...

"Mark Nichols also made it clear that his son will not sign with a school that cannot give him a reasonable assurance of playing time.

We don't want him going to a school where he's going to have to wait around to play," he said firmly. "Why would we do that when there are so many schools who could use him right away?

That would seem to imply that the University of Florida, as much as Austin likes Billy Donovan, could be in trouble following recent commitments that bolster their front line. He also singled out Duke and North Carolina as schools that are laden with big men in 2013."

.....

Unless he is serious about Memphis I really honestly don't see any school that makes sense other than UT.

Hubbs and Nichols in the early period would be sweet. Be nice to be getting some good recruiting buzz going into the season.

Mr. Nichols should understand that if his son is good enough he will get playing time. Coach K or any other honorable coach isn't going to promise PT to an unproven player.
