2013 F Austin Nichols (Memphis Briarcrest)

2 five stars from west tn in his first 3 years...all doubts about his recruiting should be gone.

I don't think the west tenn is as difficult as it once was....still one heck of an accomplishment by Martin....he still has to put together his first great class which im very confident he is going to do.

A bit of a stretch right there considering UK never offered Hubbs.

Supposedly they did, don't know if it was committable or not. Hubbs referenced it, his dad did and I believe it was Quinn (UT beat writer) mentioned it as well; that Kentucky had offered. That's why Hubbs was going to take an official there soon after his trip to Knoxville.

And fwiw stokes also chose Tennessee over Kentucky. I know I know about the schoarship, regardless, stokes could've finished his senior year and went to UK if he really wanted to, but he chose Tennessee.

West TN, particularly Memphis will always be tough to pull from for UT. Too many anti-UT influences there. Having had some recent success there shouldn't diminish the difficulty of pulling kids out of there.

I'm not discussing Stokes - different circumstances.

Hubbs never had an offer from Cal. He had two offers out to SG's (Young and Harrison#2). Cal did show interest by contacting Robert. He was encouraged to hold off to see if UK had room. He chose UT and I don't blame him. Look at Hubbs offers on ESPN, Rivals and Scout if you don't believe me.

i wonder how much difference there is between top 10 recruit and say top 40 recruit.......i remember I victor was like #100 and that guy was a baller.

I talked to Hubbs tonight. He was all decked out in UT swag. He and his family are both very excited. He said he is really working hard to get Nichols on board. I let him know how glad Vol Nation is to have him and look forward to his arrival to Ktown.

Not saying you're wrong, but using the offer lists from Rivals, ESPN, or Scout is hardly some sort of definitive proof. Those are rarely updated and often times, largely inaccurate.

You serious you're gonna use those sites to support scholarship offer argument? Just compare a few guys between those sites, youll realize they're not always accurate.

As I said hubbs and his father mentioned it, that's why they were going to visit Kentucky. As I also said, not sure that it was committable it probably wasn't, however they said they had an offer and I'll tend to take the word of te player over some sites and can't get on the same page as each other.

And discuss stokes all you want, it's really simple. He could've waited a couple months and committed to UK, he didn't want to e wanted to be a Vol, thus the reason he chose Tennessee.

Perhaps it's more accurate to say Stokes chose playing ball versus sitting out another semester. He had very limited options to do that, and chose Tennessee. All things being equal, if Memphis and/or UK had a scholarship to offer at the same time, we may have seen a different outcome.

In any case, whatever the reason or circumstances, I'm glad he decided that enrolling early at UT was his best decision, and I look forward to enjoying his game on The Hill for at least one more season.

It's possible, although Arkansas and Florida both had available scholarships. The way I see it is it's not asking much to sit a few more months and attend school if you really want to attend a certain school.

If he had really wanted to play for one of those schools it's not like it's some big deal for him to finish his senior year and then go to kentucky or memphis. Too many people make it sound like he almost had no other choice so he fell into our laps, I don't believe that at all. Jmo

Feel better about yourself now?

Agree. He didn't fall in our laps. I think the truth is probably somewhere in between. As I said before, all things being equal (which they weren't in his case), there could have been a different outcome. I discount UF and Ark because of those schools and Tennessee, I feel as though he would pick UT 10 times out of 10. Throw UK and Memphis in and it complicates things IMO.

I feel he just wanted to move on, and even if UT wasn't his first choice, he didn't view it as a bad choice, and would rather go play immediately than sit out another semester after having set out one already. Kids are impatient, and perhaps he viewed playing immediately at, potentially, his second favorite school trumped waiting another semester to play at his favorite, especially if the preference between the two schools was by a small margin.

Arkansas was hurting for big men when Stokes was deciding so I was shocked to see us land him over Anderson. But about the Hubbs and Kentucky thing....don't care. Guys a Vol and Nichols will soon be a Vol. Kentucky and the rest of the SEC will soon fear the Zo

FWIW Hubbs would have been a Vol regardless. He just wanted to take his official before committing

Thanks for giving him the message.:)

I am inclined to agree that it matters not where he would have gone "if" and "but"....and with a NBA career riding on the line he WOULD NOT just go somewhere to start playing...that assumption may be the silliest one yet...BUT I do know this...both Stokes and Hubbs are Vols and without a doubt they are THRILLED to be so....now that may bother some of the other fans bases but its the simple truth....

Yea I didn't wanna start a thread for it, but Galilee put out some news today. Seems we should here the official word in a couple weeks.

Barring some unforeseen changes he's all Vol.

If true, and I trust BTO would only post something of substance, it still amazes me the work Cuonzo has done in recruiting. He's far exceeding any coach this university has ever seen in bringing in elite talent at this stage of his tenure...
