2013 F Austin Nichols (Memphis Briarcrest)

When I say good I mean they performed as or better than expected...

Tatum did not

We can agree to disagree with Tatum. I think he had a rather quiet, but solid career. We had a lot of very high expectations for him that just didn't pan out. However, when you look at the numbers, he was pretty solid. He had 1083 points, 401 rebounds, 232 assists and 97 steals for his career. To be honest, that's actually better than I expected.

My sincere apologies for getting our discussion sidetracked. I do hope we can land Nichols. :salute:

lofton wasnt a pearl recruit and jajuan walked on under Buzz Peterson....Trae Golden is a Pearl recruit though....Which CCM recruits have exceeded their expectations so far? The answer is none so we cant state he is doing a better job yet.

Plus it is always open to discussion whether it is up to the individual player to keep improving or the coach that develops players?

Wow brain lapse, so yeah back to my point, very few in his tenure.

What's your point about Golden?

And which CCM recruits have exceeded expectations, the answer is not none. Yemi absolutely has, even if his career ended today he exceeded expectations.

I'm a strong believer that the coach/staff has a HUGE role in the development of a player.

Golden has exceeded some's expectations as far as being a PG and he is a Pearl recruit. Can you really count guys like Yemi who if he can walk without falling down has exceeded expectations? Less than three points and three rebounds a game is not exceeding expectations for anyone...Yemi is a perfect recruit though when you are not in on any highly rated guys...he has perfect size....good athleticism and has not played basketball long so you can mold him easier into the type of player you want him to be.

I disagree about the staff developing the players, although I do feel they can put players in better positions to showcase the skills they have. My daughter is just in the fourth grade and plays on a travelling basketball team. Just this year, she has played on a travelling spring team, a fall tournament team, her school team, park and rec team, and been to four basketball camps to work on skills. By the time these guys reach college, how much more can these guys develop after they have worked with so many coaches?

why dont ya'l start another thread titled pearl's recruiting and leave this thread for information about austin nichols recruitment

And I said Pearl recruits who exceeded expectations UNDER pearl, which immediately rules out Golden.

And yes I can count Yemi if you all are counting Brian Williams as exceeding expectations.

They can improve a whole lot...there's a reason that these guys make a lot more money than AAU trainers and camp coaches etc etc. The resources and knowledge increases at every level you go up...there's a reason why guys continue to improve once they get into the professional ranks.

That's great your girl is getting that much exposure and skill work, but do you really think the quality of the camps she's attending would match the level of the skill work put in by say Pat Summitt and her staff? The resources and knowledge these level of staffs have is unbelievable, and then when you start talking about the training resources available to them...there's not many HS kids with those same resources.

That's the last ill say about that though, not trying to hijack this thread, plus it's a debate that really has no right or wrong it's all opinion....

Wll Brian Williams was three times the player Yemi is but that doesnt mean yemi wont get there. BWILL was an important contributor on a elite eight team while Yemi got minimal minutes on a NIT team.

I think they get paid so much bc they have to run a program...It involves recruitingrunning a team offense, teaching team defense... I think the individual skills are taught very good by the lower level coaches but where the major coaches excel is at the team skills.

My daughter has been taught so far by a few ex Lady Vol players, Keith Mr Jennings, former Alabama player and Lady Vol player Micah and Dawn Marsh, and one of the best High School coaches in the area. The coaches on her travel team are ex college players as well. You would be surprised at how knowledgeable and skilled some of them are. I will stop talking about this as well but I had to get the last word in. LOL

I have a friend that stated Austin Nichols was a tenn Lock, well not so much a friend as I think it was what someone said on this message board. LOL

I liked Ron Slay better. Chism is great too though. Ron Slay was despised by opponents, that gives him the edge imo.

Slay is a close number 2 for me (not poop) Chisms headband is the tie breaker for me. How it stayed on is a great mystery of the world.

Slay originated the resurgence of headbands as fashion-friendly attire at UT. If it's headbands you like, thank Ron Slay.

Back to Nichols...

If anyone has any concerns about Memphis, you should feel better.

Memphis just got a committment from a PF, Kuran Iverson, Nichols defintely isn't going to Memphis.

Not that many thought there was a chance before, besides Leroy, but just figured I'd relay the info.

As it has been said for awhile...it has been UT/Duke for a long time...if he ends up anywhere besides Knoxville I'll be very surprised. Although us offering a scholarship to a F after our in home with Nichols was some what interesting.
