2013 F Austin Nichols (Memphis Briarcrest)

Pastner at Memphis for as long as possible is the best thing for UT. I know Memphis fans want to defend himi but he continues to prove he can't coach. IMO, I think that gets exposed even more next year when he plays stiffer competition.

Competition won't be much stiffer, the big east is starting to really look like the new C-USA.

Memphis fans defend Pastner because he's a nice guy and a hard worker, but just about everyone is ready for some results.

I think Martin, like Pearl, will have trouble recruiting the city of Memphis no matter who coaches for the Tigers. I've never understand the fixation with Memphis when ATL is closer and produces more bball talent.

So what is your point? Since you are the first on here to compare CBP and CCM which wasn't being discussed?

No, MemphisCanes was the first one to compare CBP to CCM in regards to recruiting Memphis. I suggested that Martin had already outdone Pearl in only 1.5 years by getting Stokes and Hubbs. Maybe you need to learn to read before you hit submit.

While Hubbs is a great get for Martin, he has no bearing on the City of Memphis.

I'm not opening the Stokes can of worms. You shouldn't use him as evidence that Martin can out recruit people for Memphis kids.

This still doesn't address my confustion as to why you guys focus so much on Memphis and not on ATL.

Maybe not, but don't act like Hubbs is some scrub from West TN either. Anyone with two eyes can see that Martin has already made inroads into Memphis that Pearl had trouble doing. This is just the start. You don't automatically start cherry picking talent out of the cesspool of recruiting that is Memphis. For him to be in the final teams with teams like Duke and Memphis for a player out of Memphis tells me what I need to know.

I just said that Hubbs is a great get.

I just don't see the evidence that "Martin has started making inroads in Memphis". Pearl was in the "final teams" for numerous Memphis guys.

I don't think it will be long before Frank Martin has USC playing good ball.

Frank Martin is a great coach, IMO. But that USC program is trouble. Unless he gets a booster to start helping him bring in guys like Beasely, I'm afraid he cant make much headway there.

No, it won't be. Look at the teams and get back to us.

Tulane is looking better than USC, Auburn and Miss St. this season.

Jus sayin'.
The SEC is pretty top-heavy this season. There's no doubt that the bottom half of the conference is awful right now. But that doesn't mean all of those programs will suck forever (South Carolina under Martin and LSU with their Top 5 recruiting class). The SEC still is solid at the top this season; though, with Florida, Kentucky, Missouri, Tennessee, Alabama, and Ole Miss.

The new Big East better hope that Louisville, UConn and Cincinnati can't find another conference that'll take them. If those teams leave, then the conference will be in a pathetic state as a whole.

This is what the big east looks like next year iirc...(that's removing UCONN leaving Louisville)

Louisville
Georgetown
Cincinnati
Memphis
Norte Dame
Marquette
Seton Hall
Providence
South Florida
St. Johns
Villanova
Depaul
East Carolina
Tulane

That's a 5-6 bid league

Run the numbers boss. The SEC is downright deplorable this year, no offense.

Yea let's run the numbers for this year for a conference who will be losing 2 of its top 10 teams next year...that seems logical bruh.

How many teams in the big east currently, that'll also be there next year, do you see making the dance this year?

Better than the SEC this year, yes?

Plus, probablya 7 bid league when you add Temple.

And adding Memphis, Tulane and East Carolina...that's one bid, if that at best.

So you're agreeing big east is now a 6 bid league approximately?

I think SEC this years gets 6 or 7 and that continues going forward.

There is absolutely no way that the SEC is a 6 or 7 bid league this season.

The Big East right now is probably a 9 bid league. It will probably be a 7 or 8 bid league next season.

The only thing that matters is the beat down Memphis is going to take come Jan. 4th, then again Memphis is a power house Basketball program.

The Herd need to pick it up. I thought they were gonna vie for a bid this year. Nova and SDSU we not bad losses, but Hofstra?

Same issues as last year, poor foul shooting! They are top 25 in most offensive catagories. They have the lead late and always manage to give it away. I believe they will gel and still make the dance.

We'll see. I'm hearing much more positive things about Martin's recruiting and establishing relationships with Memphis HS coaches than I ever did with Pearl.
