I think CCM has turned this whole fiasco into a train wreck. I'm going to be very critical if Barton is not a Vol. Another situation of putting all his eggs in one basket. Dre would have jumped at the chance of playing at UT if offered. IMO, he would have filled the void left by Golden.

From everything said, he basically just didn't want Dre. The staff knew about golden and didn't contact Dre, in fact after trae transferred there was about a 2 day window before Dre committed Tennessee could've reached out and didn't.

Now, I don't know why that is because I think he would've been a good fit, but for whatever reason our staff wasn't that interested in him. I do agree they likely put much of their hope into Barton, but then again maybe this is a guy they've been targeting. People wanted to criticize Martin for Pops and declare Pops horrible simply because of stats, well that outta work both ways, this guys stats should get people pretty damn excited.

Wouldn't the team next year be better with Dre than potentionally without anyone? I think we make the tourney easily with a pg that can bring the ball up the court and able to pass effectively. Without that we are a bubble team again, IMO. All he has to do next year is make the dance. IMO it's much better oing into next year with Dre and Thompson than going into it with Thompson and pg by committee.

The point is that we had Dre without a doubt. This new juco pg may not even qualify, but if he does, I would think that Dre would be just as effective in running the team as JJ. We shouldn't need a scoring threat at pg, just a ball handler. Dre fits that role and could already be on next year's roster.

I wish Cuonzo would have went after 1st team Juco All-America Dre Mathieu. I think this new Juco prospect is a much better shooter but with Robert Hubbs and Darius Tompson coming in with Jordan, we should be good shooting. Tennessee needs somebody to break a press, set up the offense and drive and dish. The biggest need that nobody on this team can do is on defense stopping the smaller quicker point guards from taking them off the dribble and getting in the lane. Darius is smart, can shoot and is long and pretty athletic. He is not quick going lateral. Maybe this guy can do it.

You can never have too many shooters. NEVER.

U see what Michigan did in the tourney this year?

I agree with you, I was pushing for Dre if you remember. However, like I said, for some reason the staff never really pursued him. I'm not sure if academics were an issue with him, or if it was something else, but there must've been something that really turned them off on him.

I will continue to hold the opinion that with our current roster we do not need a break-you-down off the dribble PG. We have two strong post players that will demand double teams when they are 15 feet from the basket. We need strech-guards (term is usually used with a 4 man but it works in this context). We need guards that will make teams pay when the double down on Stokes and Maymon. A knockdown 3-point shooting PG on the court at the same time as McRae would be great.

This guy GETS it.

Hmm... I don't see Jordan Johnson playing the PG position that much. I honestly feel like he's our Chris Lofton. Would rather shoot the 3's than anything. How much PG time has he had.

Also, if we take him, he'll play 2 years right? Barton would probably play 1?

He's the closest thing to a PG we'd have, you realize Barton is more of a SG than PG also right?

You feel like he's our Chris Lofton...Am I missing something? Our team has severely lacked shooters, how would adding a Chris Lofton be a bad thing?

Lol it's that old age...so his dream school isn't LSU then I assume?

Pretty sure he's not the 316 lb offensive lineman.
-----------------
This guy can play PG on my team.
Sank 8 3's and still had 5 assists, 6 rbds and 3 steals in one game. (38 pts)

He can do it all. Might prefer him over Barton.

Michael Oher wanted to play PG

When Golden was not in the game, teams pressed. It was difficult for us to even get the ball inbounds, much less bring the ball up the court. We currently have no guards that have the ability to feed the post. McRae, Richardson, McBee, Golden all sucked last year at it. All we need is a pg that can bring the ball up the court, can pass the ball effectively, and play decent D.

A 3-point shooting PG can also be capable of breaking a press. From what I have seen from Johnson he would be able to 'get the ball up the court' and then once in the half court he would extended the defense with his ability to knock down the outside shot. In the half-court we do not have to have a penetrating PG. I think Darius is capable of knocking down the 3-pointer but he is going to have to prove to me that he can consistently get the ball up the court against small quick guards. If he can they he will help us on offense.

Not saying it will be a bad thing for him to knock down 3's but I was hoping that we get someone that is penetrating and constantly getting to the foul line. I feel like even a "slasher" type player is going to help. I feel like Hubbs should be taking more shots than this guy. Jordan Johnson seems like a guy that brings up the ball and chucks it. Honestly his highlights look as if he was a highschool player to me. Nothing really "wowed" me. I'm banking Darius will be our PG starter. JJ as a backup.

Here's the deal. I'm sick of offering guys in which we're their only major conference offer. The 48% thing looks great. But why isn't anyone else offering? I know it's late in the process but it's not like this guy just all of a sudden came around. He was a 1st team All JUCO player.

I don't know if he even fits the PG position. He didn't play it for his JUCO team and we've got a lot of wings right now. If he is a 2, who will he play ahead of next year? We've already brought in enough JUCO guys who gave us no minutes.

Well, at least we seem to be recruiting the big man from Lipscomb that is transferring and won't be available til the '14 season....

I think that is what worries most people CCM recruiting.....we don't seem to be competing against other high major teams for most of our players.

Their team was high scoring, their PG aceraged almost 8apg, Jordan was asked to score and those words are directly from a JUCO scout. If Jordan was asked to played primarily PG and facilitate for others I think he'd be fine, his a:to is pretty good.

You talk about Thompson, Thompson isn't a penetrating type PG either, and unless he hits the weight room and makes monumental strides physically he's going to have trouble competing in the SEC next year.

He has a committable offer from Ole Miss, so that bolded statement is false.

He is being recruited to play PG here, not SG.

"For most of our recruits"

So you're saying over 50% of our recruits didn't have offers from high major teams?
