2014 DL without Lambert

I agree that Garner is one heck of a recruiter. Auburn definitely has a lot to sell right now, being in the title game again, having a coach who got it done as oc and now hc, being the hot team right now due to dethroning bama in such dramatic fashion.
However, thig is quite the recruiter himself. And the university of Tennessee has a lot to sell as well, even with our struggles of late. Here's to hoping for a great finish for the vols come signing day!

Thank God they still don't have Thig as well. That would almost be unfair.

On the plus side, alot of posters here just added to their excuse stack

As opposed to using it as an excuse to be a Negavol!

Lambert is an important loss, but who in this class ISN'T important???

We are still the #2 class in the country, and there is still alot of time left till NSD.

Unless your an idiot, you know that a couple of recruits would flip, or be ineligible, etc. Happens all the time and is hardly the end of the world!

JEEZ!

So where do you think this class finishes up, rankings-wise? I'm curious. How many more flips do you expect?

I don't know and don't pretend to know what is going through the minds or pockets of these kids. However, it's my understanding that all recruits aren't taken into consideration when doing the rankings anyway. If that's the case, we could lose several, which I don't think will happen, and still be ranked in the top 3.

Couch was a 5* and amounted to nothing. You guys are not only acting like we are going to lose games due to the loss of a juco DL with character issues, but now counting on losing more recruits because he flipped.

I wouldn't begin to make that claim.

Couch was pidgeon-holed into playing DE in a 3-4 in 2012. That isn't his natural position in the least. That isn't even addressing the fact that this was a Sunseri led 3-4. Even a coherent 3-4 the DL is pretty much there to keep blockers off of the LBs.

In 2013 he only played in 2 games but had already racked up a sack and a TFL. He was an obvious source of pressure from the interior and was a quality part of the DT rotation of Saul/McCullers/Hood.

On a side-note, losing Couch and Saul both for the year within a week of each other I think severely affected the Defense.

Yeah, losing Lambert might work out as a blessing in disguise for the sunshine pumping, excuse making, apologists.

Yeah cause losing the #1 JUCO DL in the country isn't a big deal for a team who has no big time experienced DLs on the roster. Sorry ass excuse making sunshine pumpers....

It sucks losing him but its going to be OK.
Vereen and Williams at end, O'Brien and saulsberry / Carr/ o Williams on the interior.
You have the group of freshman and redshirt freshman, guys like j Miller, Hendrix, Barnett, etc assuming they all sign.
Also possible that we see weatherd and maggitt in situations lined down.
We will be OK.

Can't rely on Williams. Not an SEC impact player even remotely. Has Jacques Smith written all over him.

Boy, you don't miss an opportunity Oregon. When you get on something you're a bulldog. Not tryin to rip you.

I hardly see this as any sort of opportunity. The thing folks don't seem to understand here is that I simply react honestly to what actually happens.

When I see something good, like us beating South Carolina or Jalen Hurd committing, I am happy to say tons of positive things. When I see something bad happen, like losing to Vanderbilt, getting blown out by Oregon, getting blown out by Alabama, getting blown out by Missouri, getting blown out by Auburn, losing commitments at the last moment, etc., I am filled with negativity and I express it. I'm sorry I can't delude myself or pretend the negative doesn't really exist or matter or that it can simply be excused. It's not my fault that alot more negative things have happened to UT football over the past several years than positives.

Not convinced of that at all. We have had more than one defensive player who didn't really turn it on until their last year or two. That's not ideal, and not a given, but it can happen.

We all see the negative things Oregon, I know I do. Just don't see the need to constantly accentuate them. Not saying either of us is wrong. Just making an observation. And again, honestly not trying to rip you. You just seemed to go out of your way to make a negative comment for no particular reason. You're certainly entitled to do so.

So basically, you completely lack a filter and everything you say is just a more emotional version of the most recent news? Good to know that I don't need to bother reading any more of your posts.

Feel free to continue venting on here. I'm sure it's very therapeutic. I just don't intend to waste my time reading or replying anymore.

Where do we stand at the DL position with the loss of longtime JUCO DL commit Lambert today. Some insiders in the RF posted that the Coaches were really counting on Lambert. This loss could hurt us next season. I know CBJ has said that DL is the most important position besides QB on the team.

Based on what we know TODAY, and body types, here is my guess going into Spring practice:

Leo: Vereen, Miller, Vickers, Henderson*
DT: Saulsberry, Carr, Mixon*
NG: O'Brien, Clark, Williams**
DE: Williams, Lewis, Brown

*EE
**EE Signed

Where do the guys who actually follow this stuff place Lambert as far as our other recruits (not just JUCO). Like if you were giving each recruit a number, where would he have ranked?

Out of 34 recruits? Probably in the top 5.... perhaps top 2-3 given he was considered our best DL recruit since DL is such a position of need. Jmo.

Ok thanks for the info. I honestly don't know anything about the recruiting side.
