2014 Season Prediction

#27
After one hell of a signing day cranked out by Butch Jones and company, things are looking up, so on to how 2014 will play out.

8/30 (Utah State)W- Matt Wells Aggies are no slouch, certainly a team on a mission as of late and will bring an interesting match-up to Neyland to kick off UT Football 2014. Tennessee finds their identity and wins by a couple of touchdowns.

9/6 (Arkansas State)W-One of those out of conference crush games, Tennessee rolls big with a lot of newcomers seeing some PT.

9/13 (@Oklahoma)L-As much as we would all love to see a win here, The Sooners are back in that damn good state of mind. Trevor Knight leads an explosive offense and they will be playoff contenders. It will be closer than the experts think, I see a 10 point difference.

9/27 (@UGA)W-A week off and refreshed from the loss, Georgia took a hit this off season with personnel and some coaching changes. Their not necessarily rebuilding but it's going to take a couple of years to get back to very good status for them. Tennessee rocks Athens.

10/4 (Florida)W-Florida had a rough year, didn't make a bowl, got beat by Georgia Southern, and their licking their wounds. They had a hell of a signing day, but it's not enough, Tennessee breaks the streak at home and we might even rush the field.

10/11 (Chattanooga)W-The Vols explode to continue the 3 game winning streak, look for a whole lot of yards in the air and on the ground.

10/18 (@Ole Miss)W-Hugh Freeze has got Ole Miss back in the talk. His phenomenal signing class last year is finally maturing and The Rebels might make a little bit of a run, but Tennessee is out to prove themselves. The Rebels will not be good enough to hang, Butch Jones and staff will have it figured out racking up win number 4 in a row.

10/25 (@Alabama)L-The streak continues, Alabama is just too strong, as much as we would like to see Kiffin get crushed by his former team, Saban's well oiled machine is still running hard.

11/1 (@South Carolina)W-This game is a trap game, more like a resilience game, how strong is team 118? After getting smacked by Alabama, I believe they will handle Spurrier's bunch like champs. Tennessee wins by 10.

11/15 (Kentucky)W-Bob Stoops did a good job by landing Kentucky in the top 20 on signing day considering it is Kentucky. Tennessee smacks the Wildcats into oblivion.

11/22 (Mizzou)W-Revenge, Revenge, Revenge!!! After going to Mizzou last year and getting embarrassed, this will not be the same effort. Mizzou coming off an SEC Championship loss isn't going to be that good again. Gary Pinkel will have them up for a sub par year.

11/29 (@Vanderbilt)W-No more losses to Vanderbilt, a new streak will start. Vanderbilt will be beat down nonetheless. They lost recruits to Penn State, their in a state of emergency and it's going to be a while before they return anywhere near prominence.

FINAL RECORD Overall (10-2) SEC (7-1)

Far Fetched? I don't think so, I believe this a year of emergence, this a year of statement, and Tennessee is back!!!

This would be great love the positive thoughts. I am hoping for a bowl game but I will hope your 2014 season happens.

Any prediction is blindly made of this years team. We have no idea what our newcomers will do. We have no idea what riley can do if he gets the start. We dont know how any qb will play. Will hurd kill it ? How will our lines play. We simply have no idea. If riley and hurd can do what we all think they should , and the team speed on d this year, we could go 10-2.also we could go 6-6, we dont know what other teams will do. From our past west rotation oppenents , ole miss will prob play in the tourney. But i know for one thing , we will know how our season will go at the zero mark of sooner game.

NO SIR REE!

This is a load of dreamy rainbows that will never come true.

Wake up. stop using cheap drugs.

UT could surprise some teams next year with talent and hopefully coaching. But you're way ahead of yourself.

Oh, it's "they're"

not "their"

You seen it here folks ... the VFL crowd has predicted another miserable season. Come on folks, let the OP have his dream. If you think you can really predict these seasons anymore you need to start filling out your applications for the CEO job at ESPN. Would you have thought a team with a red shirt freshmen at QB, with an offense helped ran by Randy Sanders would be a National Championship team. That is not to mention win the Heisman trophy too.

OP,

I love your attitude but you are setting yourself up for a big let down. 6-6 or 7-5 is realistic. Their has been an influx of talent with the new class but they will be freshman. I think we will pull an upset this year but 10-2 is a pipe dream. Here is the way I see it.

Utah State - W
Arkansas Ste - W
Oklahoma - L
UGA - Toss up
UF - Toss up
Nooga - W
Ole Miss - Toss up
Bama- L
USCe - Toss up
UK - W
Mizzu - Toss up
Vandy - W

I think we take 1 of the Toss ups maybe two. There is just to much youth on the team and they have a new O and D line. I think both units will be good but it's going to take some time. Of the Toss up games UF and Mizzu are probably the best bets for wins since they are at home. UF is down and Mizzu is late in the season and gives our youngsters some time to develop. UGA is away and to early in the season. USCe and Ole Miss are away and they have more experience as well. Winning 1 or 2 of the toss ups and no more is likely with this many freshman. 2015 will be the coming out party.

I think we might just go two and two against UG, UF, Ole Miss and South Carolina. Of course it is Feb. and I'm still on a high from signing day so........

10 - 2 = A Miracle

9 - 3 = The Ceiling...and a Surprise. May get us into the SECCG

8 - 4 = A Possibility with the right Breaks.

7 - 5 = Realistic expectations. After-all this is the SEC

6 - 6 = Breaks did not go our way.

Any record below this is not on the agenda but the Negavols will have a field day with it.....

I believe the EEs are going to have a huge impact. I also believe that the rest of the recruiting class will roll into Knoxville ready to prove their worth and get down to business. This does not mean that they will be SEC ready but it does bring a different element into the picture.

Barring injuries we could roll big time the last half of season and go 5-1. The schedule is favorable on the front half of the season. A lot of factors as to how it plays out. We have consistently been gaining momentum since the arrival of CBJ and staff. It has been an upward steady slow climb out of the hole and it has been nothing but forward progress with only few minor setbacks.

I agree. I'd love to see us catch some breaks and hit that 8 win mark but I think it will definitely take some good breaks going our way.

We will be a much improved team next year however there will be some growing pains and could slip up against a team or get blown out by Ga or Fl.

Let's go with a more realistic version, given that our D1 level talent are almost entirely sophs and freshmen:

8/30 (Utah State)W- 24-10
9/6 (Arkansas State)W-35-7
9/13 (@Oklahoma)L 52-10
9/27 (@UGA)L-34-17
10/4 (Florida)L-24-13
10/11 (Chattanooga)W-44-17
10/18 (@Ole Miss)L 28-14
10/25 (Alabama)L 39-0
11/1 (@South Carolina) L-31-10
11/15 (Kentucky)W-38-17
11/22 (Mizzou)L-31-28
11/29 (@Vanderbilt)W-21-20

5-7, 2-6, and loaded for 2015.

A friend of mine up the street (a die hard bammer) hates the fact that lame kiffin is in bammer his cancer has started already it seems.

She also says she knows it's about time for a Tennessee run in the match up tween us and the red team.

Yes some girls know football, better than some guys I know and she is one of them.

I love talking football with her it feels strange in a wonderful kinda way even if she is a bammer.

9/27 (@UGA) 31- 21 if we win @ok we are 31
10/4 (Florida)1-1vs uga&ok =W 35- 17 UT
10/11 (Chattanooga)W-41-10
10/18 (@Ole Miss) 28- 24 W
10/25 (Alabama)I hate bama L 38- 17
11/1 (@South Carolina) rebound game W 35- 24
11/15 (Kentucky)W-41-17
11/22 (Mizzou)38 -31 toss up game again
11/29 (@Vanderbilt) not a game this year 35- 10 W

7 wins would obviously be an improvement on 5-7. I dont want to be content in saying 7 wins is ok next year, but improvement record wise, as well as on field production in the form of Vol players achieving the potential we all see in them I'll take.
I left open a couple games as far as W vs L and tried to explain my thinking. Im open to legitimate discussion so lets have at it.

For those saying we lost our whole dline, please tell me again how productive our dline was again? As much as I loved Jaq, CMills, etc...they did not do much. Jordan Williams, Vereen will be upgrades imo. Our Lb's will be better especially with Maggitt back and healthy and our secondary will improve also.

If our offense has any kind of heartbeat would not be surprised if they go 7-5 with a possibility of 8-4.

i'm a negaVol and think that 6-6 would a GREAT season. I see the "things didn't go our way" putting us at 4-8, if EVERYTHING goes as best it can, no worley injury or other major injuries and if we get solid play out of 3-4 freshman -- we'll be 7-5. But as a negavol, i don't see that happening.

Interesting. I think Hendrix will play, but you really think he will start? I see it being like this...

Williams/Vereen at DE's and O'Brien/Williams at DT. Does you know if Carr will play DE or DT? Carr was around 270 out of HS so a bit of a tweener for tackle but I assume he put weight on since then..

Either way I think these guys will be more productive barring injury.
