Anybody think little Stoops got mad that his older brother wouldn't let him recruit his own class at Kentucky. :cray:

Give Butch the coach of the year award if he goes 10-2 with all new starters in the o-line and d-line.
UT would play in the SECCG with that kind of a record and a shot to be in the playoff.

With great QB play we could possibly get to 8-4.
With average QB play we will go 6-6.
Bad QB play and we will go 4-8 or 5-7

4-8 or 5-7. Utah State will be a toss-up. We will actually be fielding a worse team next year talent-wise. But 2015 will be the year we win 9 plus.

Let's go with a more realistic version, given that our D1 level talent are almost entirely sophs and freshmen:

8/30 (Utah State)W- 24-10
9/6 (Arkansas State)W-35-7
9/13 (@Oklahoma)L 52-10
9/27 (@UGA)L-34-17
10/4 (Florida)L-24-13
10/11 (Chattanooga)W-44-17
10/18 (@Ole Miss)L 28-14
10/25 (Alabama)L 39-0
11/1 (@South Carolina) L-31-10
11/15 (Kentucky)W-38-17
11/22 (Mizzou)L-31-28
11/29 (@Vanderbilt)W-21-20

5-7, 2-6, and loaded for 2015.

Jones will beat at least one team we aren't supposed to just like with South Carolina last year.

I disagree. We will be fielding a FAR more talented team this year talent-wise.

The 2014 team will have great talent and much more speed but will still be a very young team. QB play will be critical for this bunch of youngsters. If the young offensive line plays well, I could see this team going 7-5 or 8-4 at best. As CBJ said, one recruiting class will not fix all their problems. 2015 should be the year for UT football's return to prominance in the SEC.

We have too many question marks at QB, RB, O-line, kicking, and D-line. I think the only positions where we drastically improve is at LB, WR and TE. We also probably improve in the secondary, but I dunno if it will be a drastic improvement this year. So, with that said I am not sure how anyone can honestly sit there and predict better than 6 and 6. Personally I think we do about like we did these last year few years, so 5 and 7 is my guess. Our brutal schedule is no better than it was last year and, like I said, we have too many question marks in too many areas. By the way I predicted 4 wins this last season and we did one better.

We will probably lose to Ole Miss, UGA, Bama, USCe, Oklahoma. Mizzou, UF, Utah St., and Vandy could be tossups. UK, Chatt, and Ark St are most likely wins. I know fans get excited over recruiting classes and Jones and staff's' upbeat personality but I don't know where we improve or how we improve without getting at least a couple of good recruiting classes under our belts like we've had this year and a better schedule. Our schedule has been a dang killer. If we had Vandy's schedule, then we'd have gone bowling this last season.

This class did not change my expectations for next year. We will not reap the full benefits of Wed for another year or 2. I still say a 7-5 reg season is a great accomplishment. 5-7 or 6-6 is more likely. Again this year, we have one of the hardest schedules in the country.

i like this predictions. its funny how everyone on here will go we'll be lucky to win 6 games, bla bla bla. There isn't much that seperates a win from a loss in a lot of these games agains our rivals. other than bama, and maybe oklahome, every game is winnable. now, thats not to say we win them all, just that there won't be much difference in the talent level of the two teams. last year we could've easily beaten uga, uf, and vandy. it didn't happen so everyone is going to look at the record and predict we have no shot against them this coming year. In the year before last we had 6 games we lost in which we were driving the ball with less than 5 minutes with a chance to tie or take the lead. we lost every one of them. one of these years, all of em will go our way. I'm thinking this could be that year.

We're replacing both lines and we don't have a sure starter at QB yet. Those are big concerns. Every game is winnable. Doesn't mean we will. I stick by my 5-7 to 7-5 prediction till we see see how the depth chart looks after the 1st few games.

Everyone needs to temper their expectations. Butch just brought in a top 5 class, so we are clearly headed in the right direction. Give the man some time to do his job and rebuild this great program back to its original glory.

How so? Most of this recruiting class won't play and will redshirt. The ones who do will be inexperienced. Our entire O-line is off to the NFL, and our D-line is no better than last years. We will have a better secondary and receiving corp but that's about it. Our QBs still suck. Peterman's uncle is a friend of mine and says all the hype about Ferguson is unfounded. He's just not that good. It will be Worley, Dobbs, Ferguson, Peterman....in that order as of now.

I believe that even Butch asked everyone to temper their expectations but people sometimes won't listen to things they don't want to hear.
Maybe it was another case of coach speak?

OP,

I love your attitude but you are setting yourself up for a big let down. 6-6 or 7-5 is realistic. Their has been an influx of talent with the new class but they will be freshman. I think we will pull an upset this year but 10-2 is a pipe dream. Here is the way I see it.

Utah State - W
Arkansas Ste - W
Oklahoma - L
UGA - Toss up
UF - Toss up
Nooga - W
Ole Miss - Toss up
Bama- L
USCe - Toss up
UK - W
Mizzu - Toss up
Vandy - W

I think we take 1 of the Toss ups maybe two. There is just to much youth on the team and they have a new O and D line. I think both units will be good but it's going to take some time. Of the Toss up games UF and Mizzu are probably the best bets for wins since they are at home. UF is down and Mizzu is late in the season and gives our youngsters some time to develop. UGA is away and to early in the season. USCe and Ole Miss are away and they have more experience as well. Winning 1 or 2 of the toss ups and no more is likely with this many freshman. 2015 will be the coming out party.

Great post. I can't recall any teams with a lot of youth winning most or all of their "toss up" games. We haven't turned the corner yet and still have a lot of work to do.

Talent helps us this year but we will be much better in '15 and possibly great in '16, '17

I disagree with a lot of your post. First, you say our dline will be no better but I actually anticipate improvement. We'll have Vereen and Williams on ends, juco dt Williams and O'Brien in the middle, with a solid rotation including Carr, saulsberry, vickers, and Miller. Young guys like Hendrix, Barnett, sawyers, Henderson coming in, some will play early.
I also see improvement in the secondary, and lb as well with the addition of weatherd and return of a healthy curt maggitt.
With that said, we are young, inexperienced, and unknown at key positions like qb. I see 6-7 wins and a bowl, anything more is a great year.

The only definite home loss I see this year is bama and who knows with Kiffin coming back and the drama that will bring maybe we some how get the upset. The road games will be tough because of all the youth but the only definite loss is Oklahoma. Every team in the east this year has question marks and lost important players on offense so who knows how that will shake out.

My most optimistic orange colored glasses prediction would be 10-2 but at worst I think we finish 6-6.

I think that Butch will get this team to 6 wins somehow and possibly 7. Anything above 7 wins is a Coach of the Year season.
