2014 Season Prediction

Let's go with a more realistic version, given that our D1 level talent are almost entirely sophs and freshmen:

8/30 (Utah State)W- 24-10
9/6 (Arkansas State)W-35-7
9/13 (@Oklahoma)L 52-10
9/27 (@UGA)L-34-17
10/4 (Florida)L-24-13
10/11 (Chattanooga)W-44-17
10/18 (@Ole Miss)L 28-14
10/25 (Alabama)L 39-0
11/1 (@South Carolina) L-31-10
11/15 (Kentucky)W-38-17
11/22 (Mizzou)L-31-28
11/29 (@Vanderbilt)W-21-20

5-7, 2-6, and loaded for 2015.

Looks right. I'm just concerned that with another 5-7 recruits will start getting concerned

These kinds of expectations is why Butch Jones may not be here in 5 years

We can win 6 games

Tough schedule, new OL and DL, questionable QB play

Freshmen won't make as big of an impact as most want to believe

Pearson will probably make the most impact on O along with Blair

Most will have to learn how to play at an SEC level against more experienced teams

Thats barring any injuries and you all know we haven't had a year in the last 5 where we haven't been bit by that bug

We still will have a team that can make a bowl. Anything less will start to reflect bad on members of this staff

I think we lose to OU, Bama, UGA, and Ole Miss. I think we finally get UF this year at home and beat USC on the road. I think Mizzou depends on our season up to that point. Just my opinion on the upcoming season.

At this point, the only loses I will bank on is Ok, bubba, Uga(gurley,marshall)...... just dont know enough yet to predict entirely, so I gotta go with 7-5 overall. No excuses for 5-7.
We may have a clearer picture after first game to predict without just blindly guessing with very little to go on(i do it too)
I just know we better go 6-6 or its going to get ugly for recruiting and staff.

I went with 6-6 last year aganst the talking heads that said 5-7.
I'm sure the talking heads going to go with 5-7 for this season so I say again 6-6.
Those folks looking from the outside in are usually right.

People who keep saying no excuses just fascinate me. I can sit here and name a lot of valid issues (most notably inexperience, depth, and a tough schedule), I mean am I missing something? Was there something on our team from last year that I missed? I mean did we have some sort of returning Heisman winner at QB? Hurd hasn't played one down but is he going to magically upgrade this team? I think if you are saying no excuses then you should be saying no excuses to go below 5 and 7 because unless other teams implode before we play them then I just don't see it. We only have a couple of areas that may improve and several that will be about the same or worse.

We do not have to have a heisman returner to help us to 6/6. We not have to have an all senior team to get us to 6/6. We will have way more areas that will improve...and not many at all that can possibly get worse. Conner Shaw gone.Aaron Murray gone. Fla....well? Vandy extinct now. Its on staff to get us there.....as always....but whatever.....if it takes 3 more yrs to get a bowl game then guess we will celebrate finally getter to the "top"

Utah State W
Arkansas State W
@Oklahoma L
@UGA L
Florida W
Chattanooga W
@Ole Miss L
Alabama L
@South Carolina L
Kentucky W
Mizzou W
@Vanderbilt W

Florida and Mizzou are tossup games to me, could go either way.
I am expecting 6-6 though (despite predicting 7-5) and would be greatly pleased and impressed with anything better. Certainly wouldn't dismiss another 5-7 possibility

i like this predictions. its funny how everyone on here will go we'll be lucky to win 6 games, bla bla bla. There isn't much that seperates a win from a loss in a lot of these games agains our rivals. other than bama, and maybe oklahome, every game is winnable. now, thats not to say we win them all, just that there won't be much difference in the talent level of the two teams. last year we could've easily beaten uga, uf, and vandy. it didn't happen so everyone is going to look at the record and predict we have no shot against them this coming year. In the year before last we had 6 games we lost in which we were driving the ball with less than 5 minutes with a chance to tie or take the lead. we lost every one of them. one of these years, all of em will go our way. I'm thinking this could be that year.

The reason everyone is saying we'll be lucky to win 6 games is because, well, you know...

We'll be lucky to win 6 games.

This post makes no sense. You're not guaranteed to beat a team just because you beat them the prior year.

Excuse my vague comment. You must think I'm quite challenged so let me clear that up. Imo S.C was better this year than they will be next year. Isn't Connor Shaw gone? So is Clowney, therefore I think they drop off a tad. I realize their RB is pretty legit but who else on that team is? I think we will play them well, not saying we win just don't understand why many are counting this as a loss. Is that a better elaboration? Yes we lose our Oline and Dline but the Dline wasn't that good. QB play can only go up especially with receivers having a year in the system under their belt.

You are off a year - 2015 is the year that we will be back. You have let your dreams work their way into your predictions.

As we sit here - we are probably underdogs against Florida and Missouri at home. I think we might win one of those.

We are probably underdogs against S.C., Georgia, Ole Miss on the road. I think we might win one of those three, two would be overachieving.

Vandy on the road - probably a toss-up. I think we win that one.

7-5 would be a huge accomplishment. Not impossible with this influx of talent - but everyone we play was adding talent as well. It's the SEC.

Finally a reasonable post.

How would we beat USCe last year but lose to them this year?

Not sure if serious?

You recall we played them at home in Neyland before a great home crowd, got several breaks off turnovers, and barley won with a last second kick.

In 2014 we play in Columbia. USCe ended the season ranked #4 in the final AP poll. They are a good team. Would be a much tougher win to pull off in Columbia v. in Knoxville.

The only definite home loss I see this year is bama and who knows with Kiffin coming back and the drama that will bring maybe we some how get the upset. The road games will be tough because of all the youth but the only definite loss is Oklahoma. Every team in the east this year has question marks and lost important players on offense so who knows how that will shake out.

My most optimistic orange colored glasses prediction would be 10-2 but at worst I think we finish 6-6.

There's only "Kiffin drama" with UT fans. There isn't anyone on the football team or coaching staff that's still around from when Kiffin was here. The last time I checked, fans don't play or coach.

After one hell of a signing day cranked out by Butch Jones and company, things are looking up, so on to how 2014 will play out.

8/30 (Utah State)W- Matt Wells Aggies are no slouch, certainly a team on a mission as of late and will bring an interesting match-up to Neyland to kick off UT Football 2014. Tennessee finds their identity and wins by a couple of touchdowns.

9/6 (Arkansas State)W-One of those out of conference crush games, Tennessee rolls big with a lot of newcomers seeing some PT.

9/13 (@Oklahoma)L-As much as we would all love to see a win here, The Sooners are back in that damn good state of mind. Trevor Knight leads an explosive offense and they will be playoff contenders. It will be closer than the experts think, I see a 10 point difference.

9/27 (@UGA)W-A week off and refreshed from the loss, Georgia took a hit this off season with personnel and some coaching changes. Their not necessarily rebuilding but it's going to take a couple of years to get back to very good status for them. Tennessee rocks Athens.

10/4 (Florida)W-Florida had a rough year, didn't make a bowl, got beat by Georgia Southern, and their licking their wounds. They had a hell of a signing day, but it's not enough, Tennessee breaks the streak at home and we might even rush the field.

10/11 (Chattanooga)W-The Vols explode to continue the 3 game winning streak, look for a whole lot of yards in the air and on the ground.

10/18 (@Ole Miss)W-Hugh Freeze has got Ole Miss back in the talk. His phenomenal signing class last year is finally maturing and The Rebels might make a little bit of a run, but Tennessee is out to prove themselves. The Rebels will not be good enough to hang, Butch Jones and staff will have it figured out racking up win number 4 in a row.

10/25 (@Alabama)L-The streak continues, Alabama is just too strong, as much as we would like to see Kiffin get crushed by his former team, Saban's well oiled machine is still running hard.

11/1 (@South Carolina)W-This game is a trap game, more like a resilience game, how strong is team 118? After getting smacked by Alabama, I believe they will handle Spurrier's bunch like champs. Tennessee wins by 10.

11/15 (Kentucky)W-Bob Stoops did a good job by landing Kentucky in the top 20 on signing day considering it is Kentucky. Tennessee smacks the Wildcats into oblivion.

11/22 (Mizzou)W-Revenge, Revenge, Revenge!!! After going to Mizzou last year and getting embarrassed, this will not be the same effort. Mizzou coming off an SEC Championship loss isn't going to be that good again. Gary Pinkel will have them up for a sub par year.

11/29 (@Vanderbilt)W-No more losses to Vanderbilt, a new streak will start. Vanderbilt will be beat down nonetheless. They lost recruits to Penn State, their in a state of emergency and it's going to be a while before they return anywhere near prominence.

FINAL RECORD Overall (10-2) SEC (7-1)

Far Fetched? I don't think so, I believe this a year of emergence, this a year of statement, and Tennessee is back!!!

Optimism is a good thing. Reality is we are a bad defensive team and an offensively limited team

I'm starting to think that I could make a lot of money on a wagering/betting website getting people to put their money where their mouth is with these ridiculous season predications.

If we win 6 games then I will be ecstatic and believe that we are headed in the right direction.

If we win 10 games then the Dallas Cowboys are going to hire CBJ. We lost a lot of players, the quality of players we have left weren't that good to begin with and the ones coming in are freshman, albeit very good freshman, but freshman can't be expected to make a huge impact.

OP,

I love your attitude but you are setting yourself up for a big let down. 6-6 or 7-5 is realistic. Their has been an influx of talent with the new class but they will be freshman. I think we will pull an upset this year but 10-2 is a pipe dream. Here is the way I see it.

Utah State - W
Arkansas Ste - W
Oklahoma - L
UGA - Toss up
UF - Toss up
Nooga - W
Ole Miss - Toss up
Bama- L
USCe - Toss up
UK - W
Mizzu - Toss up
Vandy - W

I think we take 1 of the Toss ups maybe two. There is just to much youth on the team and they have a new O and D line. I think both units will be good but it's going to take some time. Of the Toss up games UF and Mizzu are probably the best bets for wins since they are at home. UF is down and Mizzu is late in the season and gives our youngsters some time to develop. UGA is away and to early in the season. USCe and Ole Miss are away and they have more experience as well. Winning 1 or 2 of the toss ups and no more is likely with this many freshman. 2015 will be the coming out party.

Dead on dude! Glad to see some realistic fans.
