2014 UT-UF analysis?

Whilst this is true. Butch's offense is built to help negate this to some degree. With the speed we now have at the skill positions, the screen game can help keep the D honest. It also helps that this is year two in his system which helps with fluidity and execution. Tenn gets help in the fact that this game isn't in September. ...you give that O-line some time to gel and this could get real interesting.

add in that this is a home game and I think we win this one.

There is no reason for UF not to be good this season, well except Muschamp, he's been their version of DD at times, but in terms do recruiting elite talent, they have recruited more top 100 players since 2011 than LSU or FSU. If Muschamp will let Roper run the offense and let their QB operate exclusively from the spread and stay out of the under center pro set, UF could make dramatic improvement much like Auburn did last season when they switched from the pro set to the spread. The interesting part is that UF is loaded with elite talent on defense, and Auburn was not last season.

BUT, that being said, I still like UT's chances in Neyland this season, especially if UT wins their first two games and doesn't get blow out at Oklahoma.

IMO we just need to get this game within 10 points heading into the fourth quarter. Let Butch out-coach Muschamp and put our young bunch in a chance to win.

A similrt scenario happened last season when UT got within 7 in the 3rd quarter. We know how that turned out.

I hope Butch improves his in-game coaching in year 2. I would think having a year in the SEC under your belt will do that.

Butch had his moments last season as UT head coach, the highlight being the win against Spurrier, and not getting tricked by him late in the game. The low point was starting Peterman, and sticking with him after the first two turnovers. If Worley starts that game, UT wins it IMO. The Vanderbilt game was far too conservative on offense too, they should have just let Dobbs play even though he was prone to make turnovers. Fulmer proved that the more talent a coach has can make a coach look like a genius.

I think Fulmer proved that the more Cutcliffe a coach has, the smarter he looks

While I know what occurred last season, Florida is a virtual lock to be 3-1 at the time the game is played.

They have two cupcakes, Kentucky and Alabama before playing Tennessee.

The season will not be in free fall at that point.

Could be afterward tho.

I assume most of you might be cheering for Florida in that one.

or a natural disaster of some sort.

That's a tough one. A FLA win validates Muschamp even with games vs. LSU, GA, SC, and FSU remaining. No way he loses his job if he beats Bama. On the other hand, any day Bama loses is a good day. The only reason I would pull for FLA is that UT is not likely to contend for the East anyway. I'm just glad someone has to lose.

Hey all. First thread here so hopefully it goes over well.

So obviously we're gonna be a pretty different team this year, and Florida will probably also be improved since they're getting a lot of injured players back (although not improved enough for Muschamp to keep his job imo).

Does anyone with more football knowledge than me know how we match up with them this year? Like, player v player, unit v unit? I've been wondering about this lately, as that will be a big game in deciding bowl eligibility.

Thanks for any info y'all have! :good!:

(1) You better hope that they don't do really well but that they do well enough for Muschamp keep his job. He is a dud as a coach but we certainly don't need for Florida to fire him and then them hire a real coach. Remember Zook was fired then they hired Urban Crier? Now they hired Muschamp, if/when he is fired, they will hire someone like Pete Carroll or B. Bilicheck, then they will be dominant again.

(2) As of now, we will still lose to Florida even with us being the better team. bUTch has to get the mentality of the players to change. In the past, when we were going toe to toe with Florida or when we were winning, we started to look at the scoreboard in disbelief. We couldn't believe that we were actually going to beat them. Then we started to play prevent and not play agressively. They became agressive and we played to not lose. Each and everytime that that happened, we lost. We need a whole team with the attitude of Casey Clausen......

They get a week off after getting their azzes handed to them against Bama. They'll play their best game of the year against us like usual..

Saying we're not going to beat Florida because we have a defeatist attitude is ironic to say the least. It also happens to be wrong. Unless Tim Tebow and Urban Meyer come running out of that tunnel at the start of the game, their win streak against us will have ZERO impact on the outcome of the game.

I think we'll beat them comfortably, given that we have home field advantage and an edge in coaching and offensive talent.

1. The streak absolutely does mean something and can have impact

2. They'll be the much more talented team. I doubt we beat them period....no possible way we do it comfortably.

I'll be rooting for Florida to lose. I usually would root against Alabama, but this year I'll be pulling for every east team to lose.

Florida will probably have the biggest edge of all edges with its defensive line vs. Tennessee's offensive line.

Despite all the high minded stuff people throw out there, Florida wins this game every year because they win the battle up front.

And that'll be the reason they make it 10 in a row this year....comfortably.

Look at history. They push us around all game and win the yardage battle. They've had the advantage in the trenches for what it seems like forever and will again this year. Flash and dash rarely if ever beats ground and pound.

I don't give UF a snowflake's chance in hell of beating Alabama but yes, I will root for them.

1. I hate Bama. I hate Bama. I hate Bama.
2. I think keeping Muschamp around longer at UF is a good thing for us.

Did I mention I hate Bama?

The game being played later in the season than usual might be an advantage for us. It will give our new lines time to gel, and will give our new high-octane recruits some game experience.

But, it's Florida, so I'll believe it when it happens.

My analysis of this game:

UT should probably win this game, just like they should have won in 2012.

They probably wont win because they inexplicably lose to Florida unless Ron Zook is their head coach or we win a national championship.

I said exactly this in 2012. I even backed up my prediction by actually buying a ticket and going to the game.

Once at the game I realized Derek Dooley was our coach and also we never beat Florida.

Sometimes logic and good analysis are just straight up trumped by the awful truth.

and my "defeatist" attitude has nothing to do with the outcome of the game. The players and coached decide that. I just get to talk about it when its over.
