2015 Vols to open against UAB at LP Field in Nashville

There will still be 7 home games, just like last year and the year before, and this upcoming year. The UConn series was postpones. UAB was most likely a filler game and a good chance to play in Nashville.

That's exactly the point. In a year that we get our major OOC game at home (OU), we should have 8 home games. We don't typically have 7 home games every single year. Every 2 or 3 years, we should get 8 home games.

And I don't see the benefit to the program having a team like UAB at a neutral site. Sure the crowd will still be all orange, but I don't see the point.

Nashville fans will love it, though, I'm sure. If they give me free tickets, I'll go.

Its a chance to beat the hell out of a team in front of potential recruits in a rapidly growing, critical part of the state. Its right in Vanderbilt's yard and we are debuting our shiny new Nike gear. This is an excellent idea and will be huge for midstate recruiting.

Having 8 home games is the exception not the norm. It's only happened twice in the last decade. The UAB game wouldn't sell out in Knoxville, most likely. So why not play it in Nash?

Do you go to every home gave since you have season tix?

Maybe this will remind some of you guys that Tennessee actually has a professional football team! The lack of support the Titans get from East Tennessee is pathetic. You guys chose to root for a divisional rival over the Titans for a decade just because of precious Peyton.

Peyton means 100 times more to me than the Titans ever will.

Not trying to be a downer, but we couldn't find a better team to play for this than UAB?

I think the novelty of playing at LP is the selling point and getting good exposure for recruits in middle TN. All that would backfire if we play someone who actually puts up a fight. I would hate to have a South Alabama like game again.

This could be a real traffic jam for Nashville: 80,000 fans to LP field, 500 to Commadore Stadium, and 10,000 to watch the Grand Ole Opry.

I live in the Nashville area, so I will try hard to get tickets! Smart move by UT to get support from middle and west Tennessee.

I do. Unless something important comes up. I've missed 2 home games in the past 4 years.

I'm not that upset losing UAB. But I want as many home games as I can get. I won't be able to justify traveling 3 hours and paying for tickets to see UAB after giving them a couple grand already.

Also, we've played 8 games in 2008, 2009 and 2011. We only went to a 12 game reg season schedule in 2006 I believe, so that's about 33% of the seasons. It's not exactly a rarity.

After the quality we've been given lately, this just felt like an extra unnecessary shot to Knoxville donors. But if it will be good for recruiting, whatever. It's not like we're catering to the Nashville fanbase. We've already got Nashville on lockdown. The 3 or 4 Vandy fans are hardcore. They're not converting.

In the last 10 seasons, including 2014, there have only been 2 occasions where UT played 8 home games. It happened in 2009 & 2011.

It's not about Nashville only. It's makes it closer for Memphis as well. UT used to play Ole Miss in Memphis from time to time as well.

And the Vandy game isn't even a home game, yet those 500 will be there since they have nothing better to do.

I doubt this game will have much effect on the Memphis area. And we played 8 home games in 2008.

Of course we didn't play 8 home games prior to 2006, because we were only playing 11 games a year.

It just seems like we're giving up a lot financially for something that may not make much difference in recruiting. I get that it's probably part of Butch's plan to lock down the state, so good for him. I personally don't see the point, and I'll leave it at that.

Well, I don't see what the big deal is. After all, we play Virginia Tech on a race track the season after.

That's a neutral site game against a legitimate program. I'm super excited for that game. The two aren't even comparable.
