Wouldn't it be more geographically advantageous to play a game in MEM? You could still pull in the central TN recruits and get the west too.....

In due time. I think they are making a point to strengthen the Nashville high school ties and spit in Vandy's eye.

And for a number of reasons, it'll take a more than a game in Memphis to pull the local talent on a consistent basis.

This is great. It gives all of the East Tennessee fans a chance for a little road trip & makes it easier for all the middle & west Tennessee fans to go to a game. I think those of us here around Knoxville sometimes forget how many hours & dollars it takes for the people in other parts of the state to haul themselves to 7-8 home games every fall. Also it should give some Nashville kids a chance to go to a Vols game who might not get to otherwise in Knoxville. Kinda wish it was a better opponent but that's okay! This will also PO candy fans, especially after we drilled their heads in the ground with recruiting yesterday, so that's just an added bonus! Was looking forward to going to UConn but guess that'll have to wait.

Maybe this will remind some of you guys that Tennessee actually has a professional football team! The lack of support the Titans get from East Tennessee is pathetic. You guys chose to root for a divisional rival over the Titans for a decade just because of precious Peyton.

Never liked the Oilers, never will. There is only one footballl team that deserves to be called Tennessee and that the VOLS!

This is a great idea, especially if UT doesn't have to give up a home game in Neyland Stadium. I would like to see games like this in Nashville and Atlanta on a regular basis.

I think we should play either Memphis or MTSU every year. Possibly do a home and home with Memphis and a 2 and 1 with MTSU. MTSU could have their game played at LP field for a bigger revenue from the game. This way we could play in every part of the state at least once every 4 years.

I do. Unless something important comes up. I've missed 2 home games in the past 4 years.

I'm not that upset losing UAB. But I want as many home games as I can get. I won't be able to justify traveling 3 hours and paying for tickets to see UAB after giving them a couple grand already.

Also, we've played 8 games in 2008, 2009 and 2011. We only went to a 12 game reg season schedule in 2006 I believe, so that's about 33% of the seasons. It's not exactly a rarity.

After the quality we've been given lately, this just felt like an extra unnecessary shot to Knoxville donors. But if it will be good for recruiting, whatever. It's not like we're catering to the Nashville fanbase. We've already got Nashville on lockdown. The 3 or 4 Vandy fans are hardcore. They're not converting.

I understand all your points. But this will be very nice for all of us season ticket holders in west and middle TN. We log a lot of hours on I-40 every fall and it's nice they're throwing us a bone, even if that's not the main reason for scheduling the game.

For the record if playing a game like this meant only 6 games at Neyland than I'd be against it.

As long as we still have 7 home games in Neyland I'm okay with it, not thrilled, but okay. The worst part of the plan is that I assume that is Labor Day weekend. That has become an awesome weekend in Knoxville with a home game on Saturday & Boomsday the next night. Hate that they've messed that up, I've had family in from out of state for that weekend.
As for the poster who took a shot at ET fans who pull for Peyton over Titans, I tell everyone who whines about that that in this day & age it sems just as reasonable to me to pick a favorite team based on personnel as it does on geography. It's not as though you grow up with only seeing one team every weekend on a regular basis. I have about 3 NFL teams I pull for & none of them are in TN.

Really? The Oilers/Titans can thumb a ride right out of the state for all I give a damn, they've been around since what 1997? Most people in TN don't even give a crap about the NFL because we've (for the most part) never had a team here. In 30 years or so it'll be different.

Of what? I'm just making the legitimate case that many, possibly most TN natives who are my age or older most likely do not really care about the NFL except to watch how the past VFL's are doing.

Am I wrong in stating such?

And the reasoning behind such - my guess - is we grew up rooting for the VOLS watching NCAA football because there wasn't a local NFL team and can't really get much into the NFL this late in the game.

Jealous much....Be more specific....You can root for a team on Saturday and on Sunday....They're both our state teams....They're not the oilers anymore just like Oklahoma State Isn't Seattle SuperSonics anymore....There been a lot of teams in the NFL have moved....

Commit to winning instead of fleecing the fans for $ and we might gaf.
This comes from a west TN resident who would rather drive to K-Town and drop thousands to watch the The Big Orange than give the Titans the time of day.

Good for them. I never said take away the Titans, I did say however they can hit the road for all I care. That simply means I don't pay them any mind; I'm a college football guy, a vols fan hence being on this site.

If you or anyone else wants to support the Titans, more power to you :good!: But don't frown upon the folks who grew up only knowing orange and don't care one way or another about the NFL. :hi:

I have kids and I in no way take them from the Titans. The Titans take care of that with their generic bs of a franchise.

Our wedding anniversary is Sept. 3rd. So we'll get to have a weekend in Nashville (which we'll start on Thursday-our anniversary), get to see my Vols play on Saturday, Sunday to do whatever around town. It's a win all the way around for us. Hate it that some won't enjoy it as much as us, but that's on them.
