**2019 March Madness RF Thread**

On that 3 point “foul” on Turner at the end of the game:

Refs rock! I love watching them. Can’t get enough of their antics. I mean I like the Vols but I’m a refs fan first and foremost. Loved this game because they had a great second half. Just sad they didn’t show up as much in OT. Excited to see how they do vs UT on Thursday!

I had to record it. Just finished watching it.

Can't wait to see Zion versus Tacko Fall matchup today.

We are a very similar team to UNC. I think we are slightly more athletic and quicker. UNC is more consistent. We match up well with them. They are solid but not spectacular. Maye is very similar to Grant.

Bone vs White would be a good one. Nassir Little and Admiral as well.

I honestly have a feeling Zion is going to get his highlight dunk on tacko like Jordan did on mutombo ☝🏽☝🏽

Not sure what all everyone has said, as I didn’t read through all the pages and didn’t get to start watching the game until @ 1:45. I’m sure Catbone left towards end of regulation and is why we looked better in OT.

Things I noticed:
This team can play elite defense...when they want to.
This team can be terrible on defense...when they lose focus and intensity, which causes them to be lackadaisical. Shouldn’t happen at this stage of the season, and especially with a veteran team.
This team has an elite offense...when Rick let’s them run an up tempo offense.
This team can be terrible on offense...when Rick makes them slow it down. It causes us to be stagnant, which affects our defensive play, too.
Rick Barnes is a great coach, but he has flaws. We saw them manifest today.

This team goes as Barnes allows them to go. I fully believe that. He basically called off the dogs to start the halftime. Admiral said it after the game that they wanted to slow it down...that caused us to be stagnant on offense and lose focus on defense. Result? We almost was eliminated after leading by 25 at one point.

The big question, which will answer how far we go...can and will Rick let his team loose, and let them run up tempo the rest of the tournament? I think this team’s defensive play feeds off of its offensive tempo. Let them go up tempo, and they feed off of it and play intense defense.

My biggest concern is the lack of that killer instinct from Rick to bury teams, when we have the chance (and that rubs off to the players). If we had kept doing what we did in the first half, the game would have never been close. Instead, we almost lost. Better learn from it, Coach, or we will be eliminated soon.

Last point: if there are people who think the refs can’t change the course of a game, then go watch the 2nd half again. It was blatant and pitiful. We should have never let it affect the game with the lead we had, but it was obvious. Iowa was in the bonus with over 11 mins to play. It took us until 5:30 left to get in the bonus. It is frustrating to continuing getting 2 different games called against us in first half versus 2nd half.

Glad we won. Survive and advance. GO VOLS!!

The TV guys on CBS still like us, they think it was a good think we were tested ans found a way to win. Said Purdue will be a challenge because they shoot the 3 well. Made 16 against,Nova

Listen to Admiral and Grant post game: that’s ownership boys and girls. They spoke straight truth and blamed no one but themselves for the poor 2nd half. That’s what I love about them.
Question is will we learn from it? This has been a trend way too much. I think a lot of it goes on Rick’s shoulders. He’s the one who wanted to slow it down. Why? Going up tempo is what got us a 49-28 lead at the half. Try to go out and score 49 more. Why slow down? Better go up tempo rest of tourney, or someone will make us pay and eliminate us.

I dont think we will have to worry about that decision anymore. Every team from here on will be tough. I dont see us running out to a 20 point lead on anyone the rest of this tournament

Two things: officiating sucked, no doubt and that let Iowa back in, but we played laxidazical in the 2nd half.

To all the “Barnes sucks” crowd: did CRB make lazy passes against the face of the D? Did he not block out causing way to many Iowa Off Reb? The coach sets the strategy and puts guys in place to win, but players HAVE to execute! Survive and advance, but damn my heart is spent.

....one last note: how can Iowa look so unatheletic in the 1st half, then look completely different in the 2nd. Props to them on a nicely played 2nd half
It is on Barnes though for changing the game plan at halftime, and trying to slow them down. It made our offense stagnant and our defensive effort became lackadaisical.
