2019 Target List

I get all that, just curious if you saw something mentioning Tennessee as actively recruiting him. They offered him over a year ago, but since then he’s not been mentioned with Tennessee...Rob Lewis of VQ was at that camp and interviewed multiple guys about Tennessee and he wasn’t one, so I’m guessing he’s not really on the staff list of priorities right now. Maybe if he holds off on doing something until spring that changes, but as of now I don’t see much need to add him to the list of targets.

I don’t mean that to come off as an ass, but there’s a lot of guys with Tennessee offers to their name, the guys on the target list are the ones that the staff has been showing the most attention to though.

Last CBs on 247 are for the good guys. One as recent as 6-25-18

Wonder if that’s what the OP was referring to? One of them was from Andrew Slater who has the scoop for high school kids, definitely might be worth watching. Kid plays for TJ Ford’s AAU team which obviously is going to have great things to say about Barnes.

I saw that too. Maybe they know something we don't. The kid has some good offers on the table including UVA. I wonder if we are going to slow play him until spring.

I kinda wonder, with his ranking, why more in state schools haven’t offered.

2 out of 100 so far

Curious myself. You never hear anything about him.

One of those guys that Barnes likes. 6-7 and can play multiple positions. think we'll hold on to him.
He'll only get better as he matures.

Based on photos I see, this kid looks more like the 200 lb listed weight than the 240 reported in the first post.

If true, I wonder if he might be taking Gaines spot?

Write up from NBA Camp...

DJ Thorpe, C, 2019
Heading into camp, DJ Thorpe was one of the least heralded prospects in attendance, but he proved he belonged during the night session on Wednesday, competing in the paint, grabbing rebounds on both ends and playing a physical brand of basketball. This time of year college coaches are searching for potential new options at the center spot and Thorpe, a 6-foot-8, 240-pound big man is sure to see his recruitment rise during the July evaluation periods.

Recruiting: Kansas State, Oklahoma State, TCU, Tennessee, Texas A&M and a host of others

Nice. Definitely seems like a true PF/C.

Yup...my guess is a high energy 4 man, could play some 5 if needed but that would be more Burns/Walker spot. Will be interesting to see how they proceed and if this has legs, they seemingly have serious traction with some true wing types (CJ Walker, Greg Gantt and Patrick Williams) so maybe they’d take both?

Now. How about his tangibles?

No reason to over-analyze a small paragraph, so I'll just wonder why no mention of shooting, ball handling, passing, or court IQ.

But the writer certainly liked his intangibles.

Could be a horrible comparison, but here’s what comes to mind...what we hope/hoped Fulkerson would be. A 6’8”-6’9” 230lbs athletic post, not the most skill in the world but would out hustle everyone and be a menace defensively and on the boards. With that said I do think he’s a bit more skilled at the same stage, many of his highlights show a decent 18-20 footer and that’s not something I recall Fulk ever showing.

I am in LOVE-- an old fashioned PF, who stays down on the block with great footwork. DJ Thorpe is awesome he looks fundamentally sound

I am pretty sure Thorpe's Dad is 6'10. If DJ grows to 6'10, he would be a monster. This is really exciting and I could care less where this kid is ranked-- Thorpe is a a quality recruit.

No way Thorpe will last to the Spring. Several quality schools will flock to him in July and overwhelm him with Love and Attention-- he's too good to pass up. If he has grades and isn't an axe muderer someone will snatch him up early?

Auburn or Mississippi State will take him as long as he's only accused of murder with an axe.

Not necessarily true, there’s quite a few recruits with plenty of offers, love and attention that choose to wait until spring.
