I noticed Linginfelter has fallen to #90 on Baseball America's top 100 MLB draft prospects. I'm sure he goes still, but he fell a few spots.

MLB.com has him at #93.

Saw he was the Gatoraide player of the year. Is he a Vol commit?

Maybe, maybe not. He has had some durability issues. Has only pitched about 55 innings this year, and was under 30 last year.

That said, I saw him on Saturday night in a sectional game against Powell. I had seen him earlier in the year, but as an outfielder that day. Saturday night he pitched.

The thing that jumps out at you is just how big he is. Perfect Game lists him at 6'4" and 230, and he is every bit of that. He was a bit erratic on the mound early on, but threw hard (I didn't see a gun anywhere around, but I am guessing he was at 90ish) and looked solid. Powell isn't a great hitting team, but still he was pretty much in control most of the game, giving up just 5 hits and 2 earned runs. He was 2/3 with 2 RBI, as well. I really like him as a hitter, too.

And it was his 2 way play that earned him the Gatorade award.

My guess is that somebody will still take him fairly highly and that he'll have a decision to make, but from everything I have heard in talking to some folks he won't be drafted as highly as he was projected at the beginning of the year due to the durability on the mound concerns. He might have to go to college to prove his durability.

I don't know what happened in the State Tournament, but Zach Linginfelter ripped a writer for questioning how his coach used him.

Lingo didn't pitch at all in Murfreesboro. He threw a complete game in the Sectional on Saturday night, throwing 109 pitches.

Sevier County won its first Spring Fling game last night, but lost 2 today and were eliminated without Lingo ever taking the mound.

Refreshing to see a coach NOT try to win at the expense of a pitcher's arm. Evidently Zach's arm wasn't 100% or he would have pitched. I remember watching Wil Crowe throw 150+ pitches in the championship game for Pigeon Forge HS a few years back and the scout I was near telling me that he was "going to be meeting Mr. Tommy John pretty soon." Less then two years later....he did!

Don't disagree at all. Like I said earlier, Lingo hasn't pitched a lot of innings over the last couple of years. No point in asking him to do something he doesn't need to be doing.

And Casey Taylor is a high school coach who doesn't overuse arms.

Crowe threw much much more than what is being discussed for Ligg.

Crowe threw CGs on

Mon then Friday then Tuesday then Friday(over the 150 you post about)

That's on the tssaa for having a poor schedule in place and on the hs coach for not "getting it"

Ligg could of and should have been able to pitch one more time after 3 days rest

Or the $ said it wasn't ready

I understand your thoughts on this and from what I have heard there may be "advisors" involved here. However, he is a power pitcher who has had arm problems in the past and he threw over 100 pitches on Sat night. It is a lot to ask a guy to come back on 3 days rest and pitch in another "big game." If a guy has not conditioned his arm to do this, it is a recipe for disaster.

Also, I remember the TSSAA Championship Game in which Wil Crowe threw over 150 pitches. Knowing how many games he had thrown in the preceding two weeks, its a wonder he didn't blow it out there. Sure hope he bounces back.

Yep crowe was way way overused for sure

FWIW, I say the hell with the unwritten rule of not stealing, luring, enticing other teams recruits...If I was part of the staff I'd be camping out in Florida all year telling guys who are verbally committed to "top tier" schools "come to Tennessee and compete for the Friday night spot or being the 3 hole hitter because if you got to XYZ school you might not even get a shot for a year to two.....here, you can play from day 1."

Guys in football flip flop when the winds changes direction......

I hear you but it goes both ways.

How many of our guys would say know to Corbin if he came calling?

See stone and Sheffield

new to the boards....given all the latest developments, what do we know about the 2017 class?

Go in the drop down menu, select Tennessee, hit the button and the 2016 class will show up, change the year to 2017 and the 2017 class will show up. It's not as cool as it used to be, but you can get an idea.

Thanks vol66. What guys do we expect to not hold on to in this signing class? We need pitching in the worst way so hoping against hope that Liginfelter and Pence are on campus next year.

Who are the difference makers IYO that we have to have to improve? My take is Pence, Ligenfelter, Carter, and Chiana.

Seems to me that Simcox's recruiting is more SEC talent and size that we need as opposed to Serrano's first 4 years.

Aric Thomas is big in recruiting, the kid we got the other day for 2018, all he talked about was how great CAT is...he didn't even know the deal with Serrano! I'm sure Simcox will bring something to the table, he'll have to because CDS will be coaching the USA Team all of July.

I'm worried about losing the two you mentioned, everyone seems to think Linginfelter is as good as gone. I'm worried about losing Schultz (95 MPH) and ranked #92 by BA and maybe even Stallings. If that happens it will be a big blow and not just for next year.

I'll have to let somebody else discuss who might be able to contribute, I've never seen any of them play.

I can't remember the poster, but someone on VQ claimed Farragut people said Pence was coming to school at the state tournament.

I hope Chinea turns out like his brother.

Noticed that Serrano said he had mistake in not giving enough scholarship money to pitching the past few years so I'm hoping that gets corrected.

If we can get Stallings, Schultz and Darling to campus that would be great to go with our returning pitchers including Kyle Serrano.

WOW! Was scanning the Perfect Game site viewing recent commitments. Noticed Vanderbilt has a recent commitment from a kid in the 2023 class. That's just crazy.
