2022 Recruits

The excuses really are laughable. Dawn Staley had to create excitement and tradition at a school that never had any of that. If Dawn had taken over here, she would have been able to utilize everything that was already in place…such as tradition, top notch facilities and the LV name. A good to great coach should be able to take this program and hit the ground running in recruiting. A so-so coach would have to prove themselves to players and coaches in the high school ranks.
Also, the idea that if you question what is going on over there, means you are a troll and not a true LV fan is ridiculous! That’s BS! If you aren’t questioning what is going on, I would question your fandom. If you were around when Pat had it rolling, then you should question how the mighty have fallen so fast. This program should recruit itself. All a competent coach needs to do is have the name recognition to get her foot in the door and get the right player excited and it would be rolling again. Instead, we are recruiting the overachieving 4 star players and expecting to compete with the heavyweights. Not happening! In fact, the longer we recruit these second tier recruits, it will be even harder to ever get back to where we should be. YOU HAVE TO HAVE A STAR! It can’t be a team full of complimentary players! You need an alpha! A Chamique…a Candace…those players would most likely not come to play for Coach Harper.

Justine is a 4 star? talaysia cooper is a 4 star player ? Although Kyla Oldacre is a "4 star" she was the MVP of the Nike Nationals. She also has a ton of interest from top colleges but she is just a "4-star". i don't understand what makes any of them second tier recruits. Matter of fact i wouldn't be surprised to see Oldacre jump in the rankings after her showing. Justine keeps getting invited to elite camps and showcases and was even MVP of a Nike Tourney with some of the top talent in the country.

Do you mean SIGN overachieving 4 star players? I am trying to understand what you are saying... there is a difference between recruiting and signing ...yes. Kellie is recruiting five star players and yes she needs to sign them which she can actually do this class.

As a LV fan i thought you would recognize a coach recruiting top talent...

PS you know damn well how the mighty fell so fast we all witnessed the train wreck in Holly's tenure and the most embarrassing part wasn't the losses (which is sad) it was the fights, dismissals, and lack of expectations being upheld. There are those of us who can do both question the staff, yell, curse, scream AND also appreciate the fact we didn't have to wait til the flipping selection show to know if we got in or not.

So while we may not piss and moan 24/7 that doesn't make us any less of LV fans as the ones who do b**** all the time 🙄

Those 3 visits could become commitments. I think that class, talent wise, will provide immediate help and the team will get better....maybe by a lot. Anyway, just wishful thinking I guess. Who would argue against a class of Pissott, Cooper, Oldacre, and Jenkins?
Darth because none of them are in the Top 5, even if the class is a Top 5 class

shhhh don't be a sunshine pumper 👀 or respect the hustle of the new coaches.

On the real I am excited to see expectations upheld AND looking forward to the COMPETENT coaching staff they've shown themselves to be in the past.

We will never be able to break it down to a top five or even top ten again. You now need to at least expand that to 25 and eventually that might reach fifty. Just a lot more going on more participants in the game making the talent pool quite a bit larger. What you got 10 years ago as the top talent is not what you get today. Oldacre way down the list just outplayed all the top ten players that were at Nike.

Talked to some former players who played D1. How they decided which school to play for. It’s not just one reason and more complex than most of you realize.

1. Playing Time
2. Tradition
3. Coaching: System, religious beliefs, chemistry, race, gender, early relationship established. For example, Keyen Green said she wanted to play for a strong female coach: Harper. Many players won’t play for coaches who aren’t Christian.
4. The gossip mill. Includes players who have transferred and coaches. Geno and Westbrook prime examples.
5. Meeting current players.
6. Coaching changes: Recruits generally need a head coach and staff to be established for at least five years.
7. Dating: Weird, but true.
8. Game day atmosphere: Horston explained that TBA is a
terrific venue for playing.
9. Food: Weird, but also true. These are 17 year old girls.
10. Success of Lady Vols post-program: WNBA, announcing, etc.
11. Parents’ wishes: Holdsclaw’s grandmother fell asleep, literally, when Geno visited Holdsclaw’s home. Her mother adored Pat and DeMoss. Holdsclaw wasn’t sure about playing in a southern state, but between coaches and her grandmother’s preference, she came to UT.
12. Family members’ alma mater
13. How hard they were recruited
14. Facilities
15. Brand, especially with NIL: Lady Vols. What more can I say? Athletic department is on top of this
16. Degree programs
17. Location, including distance from home

You mean it's not just stomping into the room and saying "TENNESSEE LET'S GO PACK YOUR BAGS YOU'RE MINE NOW." I had no idea. Astounding. Someone should write a book.

The negative posters on recruiting come and go after their weekly and sometimes monthly four or five posts. Their biggest ally is nothing happening that we know about so they can use that as being factual to them that we are not recruiting very well. They tend to ignore the class of 2021 even though a consensus top ten class as not very good because no one broke into the ESPN top 10 from that group. They also like to ignore that Pissott is now a top twenty rated recruit because that defeats their purpose of being able to complain about recruiting. If and hopefully it happens we sign the three players visiting to this class still want be good enough as they will point that none of them are in the top ten. Even if the class is eventually rated in the top ten overall classes they will still say not a star player so were doomed. I have learned to just let them post and as long as they don't respond to any of my posts I leave them alone. I really don't have time to read the same old crap they drive by with sometimes weekly sometimes a little longer.

You know Va Volfan that if any player is not in the top ten they are not very good and if you can't get two or three of them then you are not recruiting very well. Beyond number 10 everyone are really bad players none can develop or be a star just can't happen and Harper not getting any of top five wow what a bad hire. Tennessee name should be the only factor for any recruit and if Harper can't say Tennessee and they don't immediately sign she is just a terrible coach. I wonder what UCLA once a dynasty in men's basketball and Norte Dame once a dynasty in men's football think of that as they can no longer say their name and get the top players either.

In reference to 8, I remember Mercedes Russell saying she want to go to a school that had a large fan attendance. In reference to 9, I remember a player complaining about a certain food franchises not being located in around the campus of the school she was attending at the time. In reference to 17, I remember former Stanford player Erica McCall on a recruiting visit to UConn commenting on Twitter about how cold it was in Storrs.

My fellow Lady Vol fans, no matter what Coach Kellie accomplishes, it will never be good enough for a few of the semi regular posters that like to bitch, bitch, and bitch again......That is their joy in life, spreading dissatisfaction...

The 2021 class is loaded with talent, but to read the complainers posts, one would think they barely know how to bounce a basketball...

The 2022 class will be just fine, do not be troubled by the negative Nancy's......Don't reply to their BS post and they will move on to other boards to spread their filth and ugliness...It's what they do.

listed us in her top 5 but hasnt even taken a visit but visited LSU on an unofficial when LSU wasnt even in her top 5 looked like a baylor lean till mulkey left and is def a LSU lean now

I'm sure Kim would take her in a heartbeat if she would come. I had hopes she would be a LV and still do.

Wow! Who pee pee’d in your Wheaties?
I thought it was an interesting list highlighting all the many hurdles coaches face in getting a kid to sign up.

Blasphemy! We've had this top10, "elite" stuff beat into our heads the past two years or so, so it would be incomprehensible for a 26th ranked player to out play what rankings say is elite competition. Just can't happen. LOL

I understand over-the-top praise is how you roll so this isn’t directed at just you. But, there are several posts today by people who seemingly don’t want to read anything but praise for UT on the board. I’m not clear to whom their critical posts are directed. I’ll say this. It isn’t much of a board if there isn’t some objective discussion and even disagreement. No program, no players or coaches are without flaws or areas that can be better. They are in a very public position by choice. We certainly aren’t an exception and many of us vividly remember when our expectations were high and think they should still be. It seems to me we can respectfully disagree on opinions. Belittling posters, especially for fact based comments, is unfortunate but is common enough on here as to be a sign of the times. We can do better.

Finally, if there are those who only want to read TN is all good all the time, why not have a Rose Colored thread or maybe even forum?

Uhhhhhh so did I? I was poking fun at the people who think it should be the easiest thing in the world for anyone to sign top 5 classes at Tennessee by default. I absolutely agree with LadyOrange's observation that recruiting is more complex than most people realize.
