2022 Recruits

No not at all. I got your point the first 10 times you made it a couple of years ago. It has become your mantra and most of your communication is on that subject but you probably didn't realize that. Like I said, I got it. I don't disagree with the premise and any fan will agree that recruiting the best players is more likely to give better results if they are properly coached. The extra thousand or so times you've brought it up afterwards didn't make it any more or less important, just something that the been discussed ad nausum. In the end, it doesn't matter. Kellie will sign the players she signs no matter what the VolNation recruiting experts think.

Less worry will be good for everyone especially when we can do nothing about the outcome except to postulate.

You win. I mistakenly thought a message board was for objective discussion. There is remarkably poor recruiting intel on the board anyway to keep it interesting. I am done.

The link you mockingly sent is an embarrassment by the way given some with family or friends with actual mental health issues.

She was and she is a good player. Rennia was top ten as is JH. We did not make the sweet sixteen. A team goes with the best they can get - almost always. But, Gino, Dawn, Kim nor Pat have won championships the last twenty five years without a top five talent. That isn’t an opinion.

Rennia was number 12 lol she didn't have a chance 😂

You can’t deny any of those players’ talent. Not every Top 10 come with issues. I would take a Top 10 with the correct mindset and work ethic any day over Rae! And I love Rae and I was telling a lot of my friends how underrated she was when we were recruiting her. But give me a Clark, Paige, or Boston any day of the week! With a player like Rae to compliment those players!
I have seen the top ten recruits…… Evina, Hayes, Green , What did they get you ?

Rae Burrell was #46 in her class …. I’ll take her over your top ten players! Just Saying

🤔 i can def dig what you are saying here. But since we had too 10 players with issues it seemed i'm def glad to have Rae. She could be another 1st round pick😃

The same coach who brought in those top ten recruits also brought in Burrell. Just Saying...

Mock.....NO! That is your word...not mine. No mocking was intended and you probably know that. There is an unusually large amount of fretting and worry on this board and the article addresses some of the reasons people worry. There should be another category called "recruiting anxiety" that studies why people lose their mind over whether their school wins recruiting battles.

You mean a top 1,3,or4 recruit over Rae …. Pretty safe bet ! Not much of a bet when you pick the top players every year …. How many in the 40’s would you pick ? 🤔

Coach, your young charges look like future Lady Vol stars....Keep up the great work.
By the way, what is the latest with little Madi? She also looks like a future Lady Vol star to me...Like her deep 3 ball.

When I was these young kids age, I had recently discovered my ability to "collect owed money" for the kids that could not take care of their own business;...If a big kid owed them a dollar, I would get the money for them for about a 25 cent fee...

My secret was I did not mind getting hit, most of the bully's did...Just give me the dollar and I go away....

What I like about your young charges Coach, just like Justine, they don't mind taking the shot..... In fact, they want to take the last shot! That is the secret to winning basketball...

Our future looks bright!!!!!!!!

It's going to be an interesting few weeks, GT. I have them for two games per Saturday for four more weekends and then the playoffs. If I can keep them and the team headed like they are, it will be a good end of summer.

We lost the first game by one point, but was ahead with a couple of minutes left. We were ahead by 7 with two mins to go in game two and the other team was on a run....I called a timeout and told the girls, this is an opportunity for growth,,Are you gonna let the same thing happen or play the game that got you the lead. They went back on the floor and settled down and won by four, It was a good lesson for them and they left on a high note...all good.

Take care, GT. ANd if I ever need a debt collected, I know where whom to call.,,My VolNation bro!

As long as she has a strong Senior season she’s most definitely going in the first round! It’s about doing your homework as a coach to weed those type of athletes out. And even then some will surprise you but it’s usually worth the risk...

Your original post said Top 10 so I’m not exactly sure where you’re going with this. You switched everything up just to try and prove a point. 🤦🏾‍♂️😂

My original post were about our previous top ten recruits. Everyone was so excited that Holly got such high rated recruits! But they did not work out for us for many reasons. But some on this forum complain about the 40’s and 50’s ish recruits! Like Rae Burrell ! Just trying to point out to the Naysayers that a top ten recruit does not always turn out so good ?
And the middle ranked players are not a bad thing . Rae turned out to be a good player !

Everyone wants the top recruits! My comparison of our recruits shows that rankings don’t always mean good players ?
Your analysis of a Paige Beukers and Rae is not even close to fair ! But I agree with you that a number 1 or number 3 or4 recruit over Rae would normally be a better scenario than any #46 recruit ! I don’t think we have a choice of a top recruits right now ? But we have to believe Kellie can find some more Rae Burrell’s in our commits ! I think Wynn is one of those and she was not in the top 50’s ! Seen her play in Nashville. Good athlete, with good potential! We shall see ? 🤷‍♂️

The reason Puckett and Wynn have a chance to be outstanding basketball players is because they are superior athletes. I've seen all the top twenty players in the 2022 class play and very few are better athletes than Puckett and Wynn. Both Puckett and Wynn need to develop their three point shooting to a higher level, but otherwise they fit right in with everyone that plays their position in the 2022 class.

I watched the FIBA 3×3 U18 tournament this morning. Barker was making step back 3's !!
We're still in the running for her, correct ?
The USA team is very balanced. Mikayla Williams (2023) looks great, Barker is a beast, Rice solid and Patterson can guard anybody effectively.

It wasn't the recruits that failed,,,it was the coaching they received
Look at them now, Russell, DeSheilds, Cooper all in the W and doing well.

I stand on my assertion that "stars are for galaxies" not ball players..But 3 star, 4 or 5,,,they have to be coached!

There is a good chance Mikaylah Williams doesnt go to LSU and heads to Ole Miss. Her social media is heavy pro Ole Miss/Coach Yo.

Talked to some former players who played D1. How they decided which school to play for. It’s not just one reason and more complex than most of you realize.

1. Playing Time
2. Tradition
3. Coaching: System, religious beliefs, chemistry, race, gender, early relationship established. For example, Keyen Green said she wanted to play for a strong female coach: Harper. Many players won’t play for coaches who aren’t Christian.
4. The gossip mill. Includes players who have transferred and coaches. Geno and Westbrook prime examples.
5. Meeting current players.
6. Coaching changes: Recruits generally need a head coach and staff to be established for at least five years.
7. Dating: Weird, but true.
8. Game day atmosphere: Horston explained that TBA is a
terrific venue for playing.
9. Food: Weird, but also true. These are 17 year old girls.
10. Success of Lady Vols post-program: WNBA, announcing, etc.
11. Parents’ wishes: Holdsclaw’s grandmother fell asleep, literally, when Geno visited Holdsclaw’s home. Her mother adored Pat and DeMoss. Holdsclaw wasn’t sure about playing in a southern state, but between coaches and her grandmother’s preference, she came to UT.
12. Family members’ alma mater
13. How hard they were recruited
14. Facilities
15. Brand, especially with NIL: Lady Vols. What more can I say? Athletic department is on top of this
16. Degree programs
17. Location, including distance from home

"They" gave you all those reasons did they?

Misleading on DeSheilds and Cooper in regards to Coaching. Not saying they were not coached up but it also seems in their college career they wanted easy too. DeSheilds came to us after a year at UNC and Cooper played for 3 teams (2 undergrad and 1 grad year). In this case it was us, Baylor, UNC and South Carolina that failed them.
