2022 Recruits

In a close game tonight Strickland had 15 points vs a undersized McMinn Central team that almost none of their players play big AAU ball. A future lady vol should easily had 40 points. FYI several of her points were FT’s after Central had to start fouling.
She almost had a triple double though and played most of the game with 4 fouls if you watched the live stream.

I more impressed with the 32 she put up against a AAA team that just beat arguably the best team in state tonight (Maryville). While also having a double double that game. But if you want girls who just beat up suppar teams then ok I guess.

But no mention of last game in district game, 13 points in the first half and trailing in the 3rd...hammers 19 in the second half and wins by double digits. Avg 23 points the last two games, but alright.

This thread has definitely strayed from a LV recruiting thread to a “in defense of our state’s top talent” thread. These girls have huge offers, some to schools ranked higher than the LVs (which is where I believe the recruitment questions come from). It’s asinine to make statements regarding their talent in a negative light bc one day they just might be lighting us up in the near future.

As long as Justine is in the class of 22, the Lady Vols will be just fine...She's between 6'3" and 6'4" and shoots 3's from around 25 feet...What's not to like.

More than likely another shooting guard will join the class....It may be Ace, or it may be Weathers, or someone else, only time will tell.

Perhaps, Coach Kellie is looking for an accomplished post to accompany Justine, instead of another guard...She's the coach and that's how it is.

If you're nervous, count your toes...
It may be Ace or it may be Weathers is true but I’ve seen Karly against some of the best in this state in all
classifications and on the AAU circuit (including a couple we signed) and one of our 2021 signees (Puckett, I’ve seen that matchup 3 times) and Karly was the best player on the court and against Puckett, it wasn’t even close. Perhaps Coach Kellie reached on some signees or she is getting some bad advice. If CKH lets Karly walk, I hope she doesn’t sign with an SEC school because it will be bad to see her light us up in the future.

FYI:

Sara got 3rd foul with 5:30 left in second quarter, score was 15-13 Loretto, with Sara on bench, KW went off and halftime score was 35-14. Sara's team scored 1 point while Sara on bench......Karly actually only had 6 points while Sara guarded her!

In the following game Sara had 24pts, 17rebs, 4 stls, 3 ast and 3 blks, she was 3 for 4 shooting 3’s

You might mention @LorettoVolfan that Lorretto is where Karly plays

I am a fan of both Karly and Sara,
I am also a fan of the whole story

I was trying to copy part of Jumper’s post and get clarification on whether or not they played twice or were those numbers for Sara against a different opponent.

I royally screwed it up but still would like to know if they played twice.

Samuelson was soft when she got to UConn? She was a starter her freshman year...over Napheesa and Gabby Williams (who no one would ever call "soft"). Don't know what you were looking at, but Samuelson could flat out play. Geno isn't gonna start someone if he thinks they are "soft".
"Soft' is a relative term. KLS could shoot and that is why she started. But Geno was unhappy with her lack of aggressiveness and willingness to hang out at the 3 point line. He once said, "Her next offensive rebound will be her first." Her freshman year she also played with 3 AA so all she had to do was stretch the zone and play adequate defense.

thank you for that

So if Kentucky (#9) and Indiana (#16) are recruiting a player in our state then they are wrong and CKH and staff are right about said player?

Both of these teams are better than us so forget rankings, just use common damn sense.

You make it sound like in state players can’t play simply because they are in state players.
I am saying flat out, that if these 2 schools want a player in our state then we should want them also.
In a generic sense you have a point. But there is a limit to the number of scholarships available. Just because a player is recruited by another school doesn't determine if you should waste a scholarship on them. If you are a coach that has 2 scholies available and you need a post and a point, do you give one to a wing because SC wants her? No way.

Sorry folks but so far this year I have watched on tv most of the teams in the top 10 and we are way way behind when it comes to talent. Yes you take the best you can get but offering kids early that can’t help us get back near the top makes no sense. If you get a reputation of settling as a recruiter then the higher kids will never take you serious.

If SC wants her maybe but if WVA wants her then no.

Duke education, sells itself. Anyone could sign top talent there, just look at history, same for NC. It surprises me Vandy ( not on same level as Duke) hasn't done better in recruiting. A Duke, and Vandy degree leads to a heck of a lot more money than professional basketball for women.
This is how recruits decide where to go:
1) Relationships
2) Location
3) Handler Influence (not a majority, but a bigger number than is healthy)
4) Parental Influence
5) Coaching And Development
6) Direction Of The Program
7) Coaching Stability
8) Playing Time/Depth Chart
9) Other Prospects
10) Facilities
11) Current Record
12) Academics
13) Post-Basketball Opportunities
14) Tradition And Prestige
15) Weather/Climate
16) Social Life

It what ways? It’s not that simple. A player can have talent but not play as part of a team.

Different sport for my kid who committed recently to a smaller D1

1. Relationships
2. Playing time
3. Academics (field study)
4. Location
5. Compete for conference championships

Her travel coaches advised and we let her choose after she weighed the pros and cons of each of the schools in her cut.

But that is a fair list for today’s kids.
