2022 Recruits

I don’t think so. Ace definitely has more guard skills. Justine can guard more post type players. Also it never seems to hurt uconn to have 5 girls that kinda play everthing in different ways ie. Megan Walker, Aubrey Griffin, Napheesa Collier, Katie Lou, Makurat... all guard forward types

It also helps that this group consists of 4 HS AAs, including 2 #1 ranked players and the future WNBA ROY. Pissott and Strickland are not in this league.

Can’t confirm because I haven’t heard it directly, but it seems as though UT has backed off from Karly. Not sure why. One of the best players in the state in any class. Leader on and off the court. Straight A student. Played against great competition on the AAU circuit. Has proved herself on the court against players we’ve already signed or that we’re recruiting.
I’m sure KJH has her reasons if this proves to be true but it doesn’t make a lot of sense on paper and makes me wonder if we’re headed in the right direction.
I love Karlys game. She will succeed at the school she chooses. I just hope Knoxville wises up and gets her. Too much talent in state for the LV to be “bad”

Lol I knew this was coming... however it doesn’t take away the fact that the system works
And honestly you don’t know that... 2022s are screwed rn it’s a mess.

EDIT: Ace and Karly have both been in the thick of all of the “top” girls to great success in AAU. There is a reason they both hold multiple top 25 offers and interest!

Are you hearing anything on how the staff is feeling or AAU talk on the top ten kids with which we are in it?

I am with you Majors. I wish they could take both of them. I haven’t seen Ace play but I hear she is a great player. As I said before, I only seen Weathers play 3 times and that was at the glass house when she was a freshman. I can tell you that 2 coaches on the mens MTSU staff said to me that she was the best player in the tournament in all classes 1-3.
Weathers beat Tess’s team in the semi and so that is saying something. Again I am only pointing out that the girl has offers from teams that are ranked higher than us (top 15 teams).
She has played against one of our 2021 signees this year (1A TN vs 7A AL) and was the best player on the floor that night as well. Hopefully CKH finds a way to to get Ace & Weathers.

As long as Justine is in the class of 22, the Lady Vols will be just fine...She's between 6'3" and 6'4" and shoots 3's from around 25 feet...What's not to like.

More than likely another shooting guard will join the class....It may be Ace, or it may be Weathers, or someone else, only time will tell.

Perhaps, Coach Kellie is looking for an accomplished post to accompany Justine, instead of another guard...She's the coach and that's how it is.

If you're nervous, count your toes...

In order to get back to the top 3-4 of the SEC you have to bring in players that can guard players in the top 4 and hopefully can’t be shut down by a player on the top 4. I am sure Coach Harper realizes this and that’s why she may be backing off some of these in state kids.

Not sure that was the point but looking at versatility.

I get your point. But the reason it worked for UConn has a lot to do with the overall skill of the players and how good they are.

It's a leap of faith to say that because Geno was able to recruit highly ranked players that could play multiple positions, then you can replicate the same with players that aren't at that level. Samuelson and Pissott may be the same height and both have strong perimeter games, but Samuelson was a far superior player across the board at the same stage of her career...which is why she was the #1 player in her class.

We are staring 5 & 5 dead in the eye with a trip to Baton Rouge to go 6 & 5.
Top 3 in the SEC is not happening any time soon. CKH seems to like big - athletic players without the touch and vision it takes to win at the highest level. CKH would not have recruited CKH but Pat seen something in her not all coaches see.

Down 2 with the ball 15 seconds left, we need that player that can pull it from 25 with just a glimpse of daylight and not think twice.

not when she got there,,,she was soft!

I think that's a bit of a reach to say. She's recruited a broad mix of athletes and shooters in the 20/21/22 classes so far, including the grad transfers. What she lacks are difference makers, and I have a hard time believing that two players that are largely skipped over by the recruiting services fit that criteria.

I'd rather see Kellie start winning some recruiting battles against UConn, SC and ND for some blue chip players.

Samuelson was soft when she got to UConn? She was a starter her freshman year...over Napheesa and Gabby Williams (who no one would ever call "soft"). Don't know what you were looking at, but Samuelson could flat out play. Geno isn't gonna start someone if he thinks they are "soft".

Right! We can’t do that if we start settling on the local Knox kids and some in state kids that obviously does not seem to have the athleticism to play here. Let’s face it there is no kid in the Knox area that can play here and actually make a difference.

Have to win first and the rest comes. Win the games your supposed to win and win a few you’re not. Compete against UConn and USC don’t get blown out. Right now we need to learn to compete again and be What we want them to be.

Well...there were a few (Madison Hayes, Rhyne Howard, Treasure Hunt. Kamila Cardosa). They just all decided to go to different schools.

I agree with that 100%. It will be hard to get top commits unless you give them a reason to pick you.

Having said that, there are still some kids that will pick Tennessee because of the name. Just hope she can get some top ones while working the team into shape to be competitive against the elite teams.

games are different in the SEC than the MVC
SO is your recruiting targets
agree, you have to have a gamechanger in the classes

we have 4 of them now, but two of them are relegated to role players off the bench
and now, they're playing like role players

I really have no idea what she's playing with this. There is zero reason that Horston and Key should be coming off the bench to sub out for a couple of mid-major grad transfers. She's playing with fire, because if they get pissed off and decide to take their ball to another school...she is royally screwed. I hope she knows what she's doing here...

You just drew up a very real and scary scenario

In a close game tonight Strickland had 15 points vs a undersized McMinn Central team that almost none of their players play big AAU ball. A future lady vol should easily had 40 points. FYI several of her points were FT’s after Central had to start fouling.

So if Kentucky (#9) and Indiana (#16) are recruiting a player in our state then they are wrong and CKH and staff are right about said player?

Both of these teams are better than us so forget rankings, just use common damn sense.

You make it sound like in state players can’t play simply because they are in state players.
I am saying flat out, that if these 2 schools want a player in our state then we should want them also.
