2023 Recruiting

I thought we were going to get Collier and that fell through and she ended up at NC St. She might turn out to be better than Del Rosario she was developing fast and had an outside shot. We'll have to find a center that can play elite basketball if Tamari is leaving. I know we have Jillian but she is more suited as a 3 or 4. Now I think you see who gets in the portal cause you need players that you don't have to bring along a year or two we'll need at least two players that can be elite players immediately. I guess if you could find a freshman or two that you think could be a factor in a year you could get them as well.

We need to make it the correct business decision for Key to stay another year. Knoxville collectives should be able to pay her more than the W.
Also I keep hoping for a Teonni transfer.

I kn u blame staffs for everything
Not everything , but who else do we blame for striking out in a big year ? The players ? The cheerleaders ? How about the AD ? Overall im allowed to express my discontent . We will be a great team and this year will be a big year in future recruiting so i now shift my focus to the season .

I'm reading quite a few extreme perspectives here. For me, it's not all roses, and it certainly isn't a total catastrophe (yet). I was waiting to post here until we knew the final results of the 2023 class, but it now seems that both Nichols and ADR will not be Lady Vols. Coming away empty-handed in 2023, assuming nothing changes, is a big problem. We have been told multiple times by multiple people (reporters and insiders) to "wait until the 2023 class" and that the coaching staff was in on many top 2023 recruits. Well, here we are with no commitments for 2023. Coming off of one real commit from the 2022 class (no offense to Edie Darby as a walk-on), not getting one top commit in 2023 is a problem moving forward, and once again the staff must perform exceedingly well in the next transfer portal to make up for this. However, whatever problem exists in closing the deal with high school recruits has to be remediated in 2024. I for one, do not know what that problem is, but I think we have enough data at this point to see that something needs tweaking. Perhaps a final four-run would remediate high schoolers' reservations? Whatever it is, for a team to sustain high-level leadership, you need players who have experience in the system long-term, and I don't think looking to the portal every year is sustainable. Utilizing the portal as primary recruitment is ok once or twice and certainly is much more a part of the recruiting game now, but this staff has to be able to close the deal with high school recruits to achieve what we all want. Here's to success in the 2024 class and the transfer portal.

Clearly I don't think that. What would you speculate SC is offering through collectives and local businesses to its top 2023 recruits?

The school, through its collective, is offering $25,000 per year. That's it.

However, let's look at #1/2 Prospect Judea Watkins who visited on Sunday. She has signed a deal with Klutch Sports as her agent. The person in charge of women's deal at Klutch is Jade Li English. She is a former SCar track athlete and daughter of SCar basketball legend Alex English. Klutch has already gotten Watkins a deal with Nike. I think Jade Li can get her some more local NIL deals in her hometown of Columbia.

The school has (hopefully) only offered her the $25,000 "minimum wage" but she has the potential to garner much more in Columbia. Plus, there is a national stage wearing a Gamecock Jersey and plenty of TV time. Much more national exposure than at Southern Cal.

With that said, I still expect her to sign with a West Coast team. :(

That's over 5 month period btw so its not cheap . 12 month scale that's disrespectful to survive but a college kid with no bills already starting off at 25K is a big perk for any recruit .

I think the LVs already at least match that amount. I feel (speculation) that we are behind a bit on the big deals. Would it be too much to get $500k annually from Spyre toward LV signees?

There's really no need to add a 23 player, just for the sake of adding one. If they do, it will be to fill a need, which there aren't many. I would hope they look international or just wait for the portal and focus on 2024 and beyond.

They need to add a post player and there are still 2 post ranked in the top 100 that are still available

$25,000 is equivelant to a worker earning $12.00 for 40 hours per week annually. But who says college athletes only work five months?

They aren't getting paid to play or train. They are getting paid for meet-n-greets, signing events, product licensing, etc. Probably 5-10 hours per month, maybe less.

Nah, that's overtime. Let's face it. Their NIL collective pay is for wearing a gamecock jersey when they are playing. We all know it, but it seems perfectly legal.

Well, Kim is done just like Geno. Maybe she'll hire u as an assistant since u kn her history. Do u kn her history for not caring after her players graduated 🤔 😪 😅
This is a conversation about knowing how to coach X's and O's. Not about someone's feelings being hurt or if she spoke out or didn't speak out against Britney Griner's illegal activity in a foreign country that got her behind thrown in jail. I personally don't care for Kim Mulkey, but that does not mean that she is not one of the best coaches in the game right now and has been for as long as she has been a head coach.

You think or you know ? That would make the case even worse if we do and the recruits are still choosing elsewhere. I have not heard of any sort of similar deal in knoxville where "Each player" gets at least 25K. I know our top players are getting NIL money but not "Each player".

One of our problems may be that SC likes to get stuff like that out in the media and we keep what the Tennessee players are getting close to the vest. I know that at least half the girls on our team are getting well in advance of 25 k. Tess has four or five deals which would only have to be worth 5000 each to get to 25K. I know Tamari. Rickea, and Jordan are way over that amount no one is giving any numbers. Just not Kellie's style to make NIL money public. On the other hand Barnes seems to be one that at least gives out some information about NIL deals. I saw where all the incoming freshmen recruits for 2023 were going to be getting over 60000 dollars in NIL deals.

I know ALL of the players are included in the OMD deal. I don't know the exact numbers.

We are talking about coaching ability here and putting your teams in a position to win with or without major talent and star power. You seem to forget about 2005 and Sophia Young and Kim's first national championship, 5 years after Kim became a head coach. How many other coaches can claim that type of success so early in a career? Pretty much none; including the Legends still coaching today like Gino or Tara. It took 5 years and Kim did not have nearly the opportunities of Dawn Staley. There was no WNBA and she paid her dues as an assistant to become a head coach. A head coaching job was not just handed to her "just because" she knew how to play basketball which Kim Mulkey had coming through Lousianna Tech in their glory days. The job she did at LSU last year was worthy of coach of the year awards with no superstars on that team and a team that had finished middle of the pack the two previous years and had not made the NCAA tournament in years. When it comes to X's and O's and motivating a team to succeed up and beyond expectation, Mulkey is the better coach and has proven that over and over again. We can agree to disagree, but the numbers don't lie.

If Kim is as good as you say she is she will win the SEC this year. Yes, that means LSU will be better than your beloved Lady Vols. 😂 let’s see how it plays out.

I say this as someone who does NOT like Kim Mulkey as a coach or person -- feel free to express your feelings on your own SC fan board. You guys come here to taunt (or whatever), and not only is it tacky, it adds to your fanbase's increasingly obnoxious reputation. Understand how to act when you are a guest in someone's house.

a true post and two starting level PGs leaving is a pretty significant need

we were in the race for Velez and something happened between sept 13 and sept 20 that changed her whole perspective.
