2023 Recruiting

We need to quit worrying and allow things to play itself out. We still do not know if we will get a 2023 recruit, we still have a chance. It might not be who we as fans want but I trust our coaches. The SEC as a whole is not exactly having a banner year recruiting the 23 class of women high school BB players. Let’s try to enjoy what we do have and hope that KJH has a plan no matter if it includes portal and/or high school players.

In what way have I "dignified" UConn's approach do recruiting?

you say, Negative recruiting can be occurring? I cannot argue that it cannot be occurring. Alien's could be running Russia's government. You can't prove it and I can't disprove it but I can point out logical inconsistencies.

I asked only for examples of negative recruiting that are purportedly being used against the Vols. So far one theory has be presented, which is so weak it is laughable. I can't disprove it but any reasoanable person would have to conclude "So what?"

Got any examples of negative recruiting?
“UConn wouldn't couldn't.”
You haven’t kept up.

It will be all anyone talks about, especially on the recruiting trail. And opposing coaches can insert any calumny they like as to what the cause is because how could we counter it when they can simply point at the results?

We have a bigger recruiting budget than just about any team in the country. We have more support and tradition than all but maybe one or two programs. We are on the upswing. We reorganized our entire staff with the express purpose of getting better results, and barring a change of heart, we still came up empty. This doesn't happen unless something is very wrong with our approach, and our program isn't being forthcoming with the reason, you can bet other coaches will be more than willing to fill in the gaps there.

This won't quiet down until we show some dominance on the court, and even then it will still be a headwind when recruiting.

I just don't get how we can be so attractive to players in the portal, and not to high school kids. There is a disconnect there.
I’ve been thinking about your last paragraph a lot.
There really are significant differences:
AAU handler’s influence significantly less.
Portal players have had one, two..years of college and will generally have made a pretty big maturity jump.
Portal players made a commitment and now know what they don’t like in a program.
Portal players, in some cases, have experienced a coach that was not up front with them during recruiting. They should be much more discerning about a staff the second time around.
Portal players may have gotten carried away by an experience during their original recruitment and passed on a school that was a great fit. The portal is a great opportunity to correct that decision.
Honestly, all of these situations would seem to support Kellie and staff being good portal recruiters. Just some thoughts.

I kind of thought that was the reason myself. They are operating from a higher knowledge base and have more reliable information to work from. And they interact with players from other schools who can give them the real skinny on what is happening. But you can't rule out something like us not setting up the NIL deals and promoting them on the front end so kids only find out how competitive they are on the back end from others after they are in school. Not to say that is or isn't happening, but that is the type of thing I could see creating a disconnect.

I said UConn couldn’t wouldn’t use the lesbian accusation against you and this is true. They have many high profile lesbian alums in the WNBA and they make no effort to hide it. Stay in context

The percentage of donations Spyre was allocating to the LVs was astonishingly high as of this summer. The same Spyre that was critical in landing the Cali QB that got so much pub earlier. Doubtful many programs were ahead in spite of lack of promotion by UT staff and AD as others have either due to the NCAA matter or trying to maximize university donations.
If NIL ain't the problem then it's a deeper situation

I mean probably there 3 Best Players of All Time lol Bird/Taurasi/Stewart..

After reading so many post and trying to understand the problem may I throw this out. NIL big payments for elite players seems to be very high for players who haven't earned a thing on the court. So with a team full of elite players we have this year and legitimate chance to win it all do you take a chance with this year squad in upsetting some players derailing your team. Don't know anything more than others but this seems reasonable and moving forward with 24 class Coach may have to change this philosophy. In CHRIST Alone

Wrong. When did you start following the women’s game? It wasn’t until around 1995 that female players felt somewhat comfortable being out. It was don’t ask don’t tell. As a matter Of fact, Geno told Sue Bird and others to keep it quiet. Rene Portland, head coach at Penn State states publicly that she refused to have lesbians on her team. Homophobia runs deep still. Do your research.

Actually Maya Moore is heterosexual and she is def one of the top 3. I would put her above Bird.
I would agree but I said probably because those three are all out and are Top UCONN Alums but we all know that Moore and Cash and Lobo and Sales could all have an argument to be included in the Top 3

Why do some on this board maintain with certainty that a program cannot succeed without HS recruits? Says who? On what authority or experience do they say that? What if we go into the portal after this season and get whatever we need to succeed - and more - the next season? And the next one? Who says we can't? Who says we can't do that year after year without any HS recruits? Would you rather have a raw college freshman instead of Rickea? Or Powell, or Franklin, or Hollingshead? I wouldn't. If those kinds of players are available in the portal most years, then why could you not keep a program sustained with portal players?

Reason u can't blame those fans is because portal is just new In NCAA and they don't understand the value. When It first started I didn't like it until I paid attention and was like wow I lov it. Imagine if we remove our 4 portal and replace them with top 20 recruits, no way in the world we would've landed #5 in the nation now.. High school recruit nowadays is a gamble because u don't kn how they'll perform versus a portal u kn that is already a star with experience. We should be prasing Kellie. Am not saying that we don't need high school recruit but, Kellie is being careful to get any high school.

I believe this belief will be proved wrong this season. Franklin, Hollingshead, Jackson, and Powell, along with the returning cast, will help to lead the LVs to SEC regular season and tournament championships as well as to the Final Four and a National Championship. GBO.

I believe you have to have agood h.s. recruiting haul every year. It's the basis of a solid foundation,as opposed to plug and play. Something to be said about a 2-3 year starter who has paid their dues for your school and team. Remember most( not all) will be 1 and done portal players. They at one time said no to being a Lady Vol. Just my opinion...

ADR just signed with SIG sports so she already getting some NIL action. I think at least three of the schools on her list which would include Tennessee have plenty of Nil deals lined up for her and she will do well no matter the choice she makes tomorrow.

Don’t know if it’s true or not, but I’m hearing that Velez got a 6 figure deal and an extra 50k to steer a certain player their way. If that’s the case, dodged a bullet imo. You would have to be Candace Parker good to warrant that kind of money and they ain’t Candace Parker good. Aggie football is spiraling right now after paying for the #1 recruiting class. You can buy talent but you can’t buy character. When kids see us win and have fun doing it, they will come

Giving high-school players big money to pick your college? It's seedy--it's corrupt. And in a lot of cases it will be a complete waste of money. Major-college basketball and football have become incredibly dirty. It's bad enough seeing the greedy, money-grubbing families of high-profile college players urging their kids to turn pro early so they--the family and assorted hangers-on--can hold out their hands and get some cash from the players. Now, the whole sordid mess has dropped down to the high-school level. Disgusting.

It's insane what's going on right now and, in my opinion, the worst high-level job title in sports right now is Recruiting Coordinator. The playing field is alarmingly unlevel, and apparently now revolves primarily around non-basketball/classroom criteria for a lot of top players. How are recruiting coordinators maintaining their sanity?!

To this longtime supporter, some of this is feeling, well, kinda tawdry.
