2023 Recruiting

Tennessee and Florida are the only two teams at the moment without a 2023 commit. Baylor in the Big 12 hasn't committed anyone either. That is a little surprising.

I believe this belief will be proved wrong this season. Franklin, Hollingshead, Jackson, and Powell, along with the returning cast, will help to lead the LVs to SEC regular season and tournament championships as well as to the Final Four and a National Championship. GBO.
Im cool with portal recruiting if it was automatic but the portal isn't a sure thing so I rather have the best of both worlds getting HS recruits as well as the portal so for the posters who are alarmed by not getting HS recruits I understand their thinking and for the posters who are saying the portal way is fine I understand their thinking but some on here feel because of the portal that the HS recruiting isn't anything to worry about and I feel that is wrong imo.

Notes: Gov. Bill Lee signed an amendment to Tennessee’s NIL legislation in April. The amendment rewrote the original bill, making several noteworthy changes. Collectives can work with college coaches and athletic officials. The new law removes the institutional involvement prohibition and allows athletic department employees to become part of the NIL process. Collective are also allowed to participate in the recruiting process.
This opens the door to any amount of money including offers to recruits all you need is the deals to make the offers. This allows coaches to talk about NIL with players they are recruiting and if they of course have the deals tell them how much they could be worth to the player. This amendment put Tennessee schools at an advantage over some states while others have the same law.

Why do some on this board maintain with certainty that a program cannot succeed without HS recruits? Says who? On what authority or experience do they say that? What if we go into the portal after this season and get whatever we need to succeed - and more - the next season? And the next one? Who says we can't? Who says we can't do that year after year without any HS recruits? Would you rather have a raw college freshman instead of Rickea? Or Powell, or Franklin, or Hollingshead? I wouldn't. If those kinds of players are available in the portal most years, then why could you not keep a program sustained with portal players?

There's a lot of calculus to consider regarding the portal. For the next two years, I see portal recruits as more valuable than HS recruits. HS recruits can transfer any time for any reason; the #1 recruit can sign with you in 2023 and transfer after one season to any other program, even your biggest rival. A portal player is different. They come to you with over a year of development, over a year in an NCAA weight room, they've got the "green" knocked off them. Plus, they incur a significant penalty if they want to transfer again so you don't have to worry as much about hurting their feelings.

But after 2+ years I suspect the quality coming out of the portal might decline. You won't be able to get a Rickea out of the portal because she will be tied to her former school not by NCAA rules but by a specifically worded multi-year NIL contract. Most of the elite players at top 25 schools are going to have to deal with breach of contract on any multi-year NIL deals. Players like Powell or Franklin might still be available.

So what is the strategy? IMO sign 2 elite HS recruits each year on multi-year NIL deals. Prepare for $100k/yr for 5*. $75k/yr for 4*. Use the portal to fill in the talent around them and provide depth.

Wrong. When did you start following the women’s game? It wasn’t until around 1995 that female players felt somewhat comfortable being out. It was don’t ask don’t tell. As a matter Of fact, Geno told Sue Bird and others to keep it quiet. Rene Portland, head coach at Penn State states publicly that she refused to have lesbians on her team. Homophobia runs deep still. Do your research.

I don't think it runs very deep in the game of WBB anymore. 27 years is a long time in the life of an 18 year old. Many of the prospects' WNBA idols are married to other women. If a prospect has any homophobia in her, she had better hide it on todays' campuses. "Don't ask, don't tell" policy would cause marches and sit-ins on today's campuses. Okay, not BYU or Liberty students but students in quite a few other church related campuses will fire up about any hint of homophobia.

Sara Puckett - Tennessee Volunteers - CG

Justine Pissott - Tennessee Volunteers - SG

Justine Pissott has twice as much NIL value as Sarah Puckett according to their value using social media posts.

College Womens-basketball NIL Rankings Top 62 don't think it is completely accurate sure Jackson and Horston are very high on any list.

Just to clarify: That is their calculated NIL value based on social media, etc.. That is not a ranking of what they are actually paid by sponsors.

I know no way they know how much any girl is actually making. I think the big earners on the Lady Vol team are Key. Jackson, and Horston with Darby doing quite well also.

I am curious to see in a few hours which school Rosario picks like everyone else is. Also, not much talk about Fulwiley, but she is still uncommitted and whichever team lands her is probably getting a game changer.

Im going out on a limb and saying ADR to LSU
Fulwiley to Louisville

I get the feeling ADR to LSU also. Not sure on Fulwiley, she is likely looking for immediate spot as a starting PG, which she can get at L'ville, so that thought has some merit I think. At SC, she is looking at Raven Johnson who has 4 more years as well as Cooper who can play PG (she may end up a SG) and also has 4 years.

Staley first offered Fulwiley as a seventh grader, and in the 5 years since then, Fulwiley has never shown her hand. If she was staying home I believe the announcement would have already been made.

I don't "like" your post, but I agree.

Best of luck to ADR at LSU. I think she could have been very happy at Tennessee, and definitely treated with love and respect. Hopefully she'll get that down on the bayou, but I'm a little less certain of that than I am of how I KNOW she'd have been treated for the rest of her life as a LVFL.

I'm crazy about the women who understand the honor being a Lady Vol truly is. 🧡

She’s visiting SC this weekend though… Also Louisville got a 5 star PG in Zyanna Walker in 22’ and Van Lith will also will be back. SC also loses as much or more than Louisville So she could definitely get playing time there as well.

I wish her good health, a long happy life after college and success in her career after college. But until then, I hope LSU loses every game while she's there and she cries herself to sleep every night regretting her decision. But that could just be me

U can't wish good luck & bad luck at the same time. Remember wat coach Sam said about the system of portal. A player can reject a school after a season run back to that school. We don't want to be Dirty like Marryland & North Carolina coaches.

Don't throw accusations around like that unless you're prepared to back them up. What did Banghart do ?

Time to focus on the upcoming season. And I predict it will be a great season. The players will come, whether via the portal or the traditional HS route. Let's go get'em. GBO.

I really do think they were playing together all along not a coincidence that LSU and Tennessee were common teams they were playing at either one together and it's only an opinion

And yet again, an in-state player (*) spurns Tennessee. The level of antipathy just doesn't make sense.

(*) CORRECTION - Not from Tennessee. Never mind. Doesn't matter. My mistake.
