I do hope some or all will return, but if they do I have my doubts it'll be because NIL opportunities are so lucrative they aren't ready to give them up. If anything -- and I am TOTALLY SPECULATING -- it'll be more because of the harsh reality that painfully few draftees actually end up on a roster after all the cuts are made. It's brutal, and I'm thinking some Lady Vols had to have been thinking last year, "If Rennia Davis can't make a final roster, will I?"
Also, there seems to be more honest talk from veteran WNBA players aimed at college players telling them they'd better darn well fully appreciate all the perks of being a college basketball player because they'll one day realize those were the best years of their basketball lives. And we all know, like Candace Parker knows and has told the girls, that Lady Vols are treated VERY well. They travel first class, they are fawned over and fairly pampered, fans adore them and clamor for the chance just to be near them. Once they turn pro they are too often reduced to just a pile of insecure nerves, wondering how long they'll have a job. Pro players' travel schedules are brutal. They've got to pamper THEMSELVES because adults have to take care of their own stuff!
So, my hope is that more and more college players will take advantage of all they college time they can possibly have, because the brutal life of the adult pro player will still be there when they've finally used all their college eligibility. In fact, most great, draft-worthy players will have only gotten BETTER at the game and in maturity with an extra year of college, so ... why rush into it when they don't have to?
