2023 Target List

Excited about Somto. He's a stud.
With the exception of Uros, who came after he originally went to Arizona State, we have not gotten any Hamilton Height kids despite them consistently producing D-1 type talent just down the road. Hope we are making some in roads. I know at one time HHCA were talking about closing their doors. I wonder if they are on more solid financial footing now.

Edit- BTO beat me to it.

Do we have any chance with Brandon Miller or is he 100% a lock for Bama? Sucks to lose an instate kid to another SEC rival. Especially because Miller is so damn good

He signed an NLI. That is binding. Besides, why would we want to go after someone who clearly doesn't want to be here? Plenty of other

I don't keep up with recruiting like I used to, who are pur most likely "gets" if you had to say for the '23 class. Really hoping for somo out of Chattanooga

For various reasons we just haven’t had much like with HHCA, hoping he breaks that streak.
I'm not sure how hard we've tried for many of their guys, for whatever reason. I'm sure I'm missing someone obvious, but I can't think of anyone who sticks out as someone we've heavily pursued and missed on.

There is a recent youtube vid of the game between Cane Ridge and HH and he doesn't show much offensively. He gets 2 putback dunks - a runout dunk - and a layup. Other than the layup they never throw him the ball in the halfcourt. He's tall and he jumps out of the gym but does he have any offensive game right now other than dunking?

Hasn’t really seemed like there’s been any, Okpara looked much like Cyril 3-4 years ago and was a guy much like Cyril we got in early and heavy on…by AAU season though we had pretty much cooled completely on him for one reason or another.

It doesn't seem like we have heavily pursued anyone from there and I am not sure why. They have produced some big time players listed below. The relationship between Barnes and UT and their staff just doesn't seem to be there for whatever reason.

Shay Gilgeous Alexander went to Kentucky and now in NBA.
Nick Alexander Walker went to Virginia Tech and now in NBA
Keon Ambrose at Alabama
Sam Ruzenesnsev went to to Florida and now playing professionally overseas.
Jason Jitoboh-currently at Florida

It seems strange to compare the relationship with Bobby Maze program, where we took a big reach on someone like Tamba to keep a good relationship, and HHCA where we don't seem to be building any kind of relationship. Hopefully Somto changes that narrative.

Yeah, Okpara was one I forgot about. We pursued him pretty hard, like you mentioned, and then we let up, perhaps because he didn't have interest.

SGA is the only guy off that list that I think we'd have given much attention to. Ambrose and Ruhzentsev were guys we paid passing attention to, but never heavily pursued. Jitoboh is a big guy with next to no skill.

I can understand why trying to make hay with BMaze Elite makes more sense because of the more local tie, and the obvious alumni connection.

It's really just the difference in having guard skills and not. Brandon Miller has the ball in his hands a lot more. Plus he's two years older than Cyril.

To your point, though, Cyril is more advanced as a defender/rim protector than as an offensive player.

Any word on how visits went? I think Edwards' visit started Thursday. I don't know about the others.
