Aden Holloway shot 14% (2-14 FG/1-6 3PT) and had a 0 ast/1 tov ratio as a PG against IMG in the GEICO Nationals
Moving into the high school ranks Tennessee is in the thick of it for Julian Phillips. The five star hasn’t given a timeline for a commitment but we think it’s going to be soon. As of now it looks like Tennessee, Florida St. or the G-League. Some feel like the Vols are the team to beat but this one isn’t to the finish line yet. This weekend is the first open evaluation period when college coaches can be on the road to watch prospects in person. With Murray in town Rick Barnes isn’t going to be traveling as much as he would normally. However, he’s going to be making one quick down-and-back trip on a private plane to Orlando on Saturday to watch five-star 2023 prospect Justin Edwards in action. Barnes made the effort to make a school visit last week to see Edwards in Philadelphia. The fact that he is taking a couple of hours out of an official visit weekend to see him on Saturday tells you all you need to know about what kind of a priority Edwards is.
-VQSo how about Skyy Clark? The former Kentucky signee created some waves among Vol fans last week when he tweeted out that the Vols had made his final six and the frenzy only heightened when some social media types suggested the Vols were the frontrunners. Now that it’s over and Clark has picked Illinois, here is the skinny. Clark was never a take for Tennessee and never held an offer. The Vols were definitely interested, but Tennessee (and many others I would imagine based on his ‘finalists’) had serious concerns about the status of Clark’s knee that he tore an ACL in as a junior. The talk we’ve heard is that he rushed into rehab and had to completely shut things down and ended up not playing this spring after after going too hard too early. Tennessee would not have taken Clark unless he agreed to come on an official visit where he could be more closely evaluated. That obviously didn’t happen and he picked Illinois on Thursday. There was plenty of drama instigated there, but none of it came from the Tennessee side.

I’m being cautious and not jump to conclusions just yet, but sadly it seems like our recruiting has definitely taken a hit since we lost Kim English and Desmond Oliver…. I hope I’m surprised and Gainey and Clark land us some recruits soon. It seems like we have gotten only BJ Edwards and Aidoo since we hired them? Which BJ Edwards was coming here anyways and Aidoo just followed Gainey from Marquette so I don’t know how much that translates to success in recruiting here. I’m not trying to jump the gun or anything, but I’m also trying to take off my Orange glasses as wellGainey territory. Earn that check, boss.
Wouldn’t you say following the assistant to whichever school he goes to constitutes the ultimate success in recruitingI’m being cautious and not jump to conclusions just yet, but sadly it seems like our recruiting has definitely taken a hit since we lost Kim English and Desmond Oliver…. But we got a HoF HC. I have been of this opinion for about 6-8 months, now. It is nearly impossible to argue that we upgraded, and tough to imagine we even stayed even, at best. Recruiting was supposed to be each guy's strength, and we've not seen anything pan out, yet, beyond landing Aidoo, who was already high on Tennessee during the initial recruiting process.I’m being cautious and not jump to conclusions just yet, but sadly it seems like our recruiting has definitely taken a hit since we lost Kim English and Desmond Oliver…. Exactly, I’m with ya now. I really hope I’m wrong and they start surprising us thoughI have been of this opinion for about 6-8 months, now. I’d like to see how 2023 class goes, or portal/close of 2022 at least…Oliver, English, Schwartz etc we’re all here minimum 2 years, Clark & Gainey might be coming up on a year. I don’t recall English being hired and players flocking to Knoxville, same for Schwartz or Oliver, seems like relationships got built and the fruit of their labor was seen down the road. English gets credit for Chandler but we were sitting good before that hire, he just happened to be the guy who took leas when moves were made, but that was a full staff effort.I have been of this opinion for about 6-8 months, now. Tennessee has already missed on several primary '23 targets, so that is also fueling my opinion. I'm holding out hope, but I think it's fair to be mildly critical or apprehensive about the recruiting abilities of two guys whose specialty was said to be recruiting.I’d like to see how 2023 class goes, or portal/close of 2022 at least…Oliver, English, Schwartz etc we’re all here minimum 2 years, Clark & Gainey might be coming up on a year. Tennessee is in a great spot with quite a few 2023 kids, so like I said I’d like to see how that goes.
Who? Don’t recall many guys they legit prioritized for 2023 that they’ve already missed on. London Johnson & Blocker were 2 but I’m not not sure just how much we prioritized those guys.Tennessee has already missed on several primary '23 targets, so that is also fueling my opinion.
