The timing of that statement's release is too obviously politically motivated to have any real impact. For that sort of statement to have been effective in shaping public opinion, it needed to be made before Walz was announced as a running mate on a major party Presidential ticket. It's too easy to dismiss as being "politics as usual" now.

Trumps biggest problem right now is that he hasn't been able to hang inflation and the border on Harris's neck. He's done unless he can do that. Instead he's talking about how she ain't black. Just dumb. He hasn't even gotten her to hang Joe out to dry.

As little as Trump seems to understand about what causes inflation? It's best that he avoids discussing specific policies as much as possible on the matter. Tariffs are his solution to everything, and he still contends that those extra costs wouldn't be passed on to consumers.

I understand your basic premise, and there is probably a good point in there somewhere. I'm just saying that if Harris and Trump both spelled out their fiscal policies for combatting inflation, you would hear basically the same thing .... and I do think the average voter is capable of understanding that.

Ok. Don't disagree. What Trump has to do convince voters is that their life sucks bc of inflation. The current admin hasn't fixed it. So elect Trump. Easy to do if your opponent is Biden. Harder now that it's not. Instead he wants to claim she isn't black. It's dumb

Harris has no idea how to fix it but figures to provide more handouts and collect more taxes to pay for them. Trump expects to grow his way out of it. Also, by closing the border and closing down some of the unspent trillion dollars in Biden grift programs, he hopes to lower artificial demand.

Neither is likely to reduce gov spending by a lot. That is the ONLY thing remotely similar.

What specific policies are you referring to, which will lead to this growth? Are you going to make the tired argument that tax cuts pay for themselves with growth ... or that the added costs of tariffs aren't passed along to consumers? Trump is typically very short on specifics concerning how to combat inflation. He doesn't often show a good command of how inflation is caused. He will usually go off on a tangent about tariffs, though.

Trump's speech at the RNC was a rambling mess that mentioned "defeating inflation," like they were a football team that had upset us last season, but he never said a word about what policies or initiatives that would involve. Project 2025 goes into some detail about it, but he can't use them anymore. The reality is, that whenever Trump starts talking about inflation, you will hear little to no specific proposals of his own at all. He never brings any substance to the discussion of how to fight inflation. Nor does he seem to understand how some of his own policies, enacted during his first term, applied inflationary pressures to the economy.

This seems 100% right, but also I’m genuinely curious about the size of the margin that can be persuaded that life sucks right now but aren’t already voting for Trump.

I guess people staying home would be the goal.
