2024 Presidential Race

you know that event was back in the 90s? Trump hasn't been married to Ivana in a while.

Trump didn't even know which book he had been given, saying it was Mein Kampf. clearly not something he really studied if he doesn't know the title.

and oh yeah, he was given that book. not saying he shouldn't have thrown it away, but there is huge amount of difference in being given a book, and going and seeking a book on Hitler's speeches.

I don't see a problem with owning/reading Mein Kampf or studying Hitler and the Nazis.

and if Trump had explained it that way, that would be reasonable. but he didn't. you are putting far more words and thought into the explanation than Trump did.
I'm not putting any words in his mouth. He said it is the civilian equivalent. And it is indeed the civilian equivalent. You can argue that perhaps it is inappropriate to compare them. That's fair. And it is fair to come up with ways the awards differ. But you can't refute what he said because he wasn't wrong. They are each respectively their own symbolic token of the highest honor for two differing candidate groups. That's precisely how the word equivalent is to be used.

The words of a moron have significance.....especially when that moron is POTUS.

Plus...........I've clearly stated that I fully support mandatory curfews in times of civil unrest.

I HAVE NO ISSUE WITH THE POLICY.

The Democratic Party is lucky to have someone like you who will get in line so willingly with whatever the party says is right.

No, they are not similar. That is ridiculous.

Click on the link that I provided in post #36,198. That recommendation process does not in any way resemble that of any civilian award.
My nephew is the fastest player on Maryville's football team. Jaylin Hyatt is the fastest player on the Giants. They are each other's equivalent in that regard. The process to become an NFL player is much more rigorous than to become a player on the local high school team. But that doesn't mean they lack similarity. They are similar without being identical.

I'd rather receive the medal of freedom than the medal of honor... For the exact reasons that Trump mentioned in the quote. The spirit in which the remark was intended was not an issue, he just worded it like a dumbass.
Could the fact that the large majority of MOH winners are awarded posthumously have anything to do with your preference?

And I’m not sure how you’re not understanding what I’m saying except that maybe you’re being intentionally obtuse to maintain a belief that clearly makes no sense.
I'm not trying to be obtuse at all. Maybe we are just missing each others point. No worries.

I was simply expanding on your point.

You trying to play off Trump's egomania as some iteration of "well, all politicians like to sound important," fools no one. Not even yourself as you know that if Trump loses he'll have himself to blame.
Yeah, you got me, I'm a Trump fan boy............ 🙄

I'm not playing linguistic games here. They are not similar in criteria. They are not similar in process. They are not similar in service. One represents something very tangible .... the other represents the whims of the President.

That's basically what MSNBC contributor Jack Jacobs just said .... but what the hell would he know?

The only similarities are that both are the highest awards, MOH is the highest award for a member of the military and the PFA is the highest civilian award.

There's playing linguistic games and then there's ignoring the nuance of language. I believe you're doing the latter because you hate Trump and want desperately to find insidious meaning in every banal statement the man utters.

Her policy stances were more in line with liberal Twitter than “run-of-the-mill D” in 2019. I was not a fan and would not have voted for her against Trump prior to 1/6/21.

It’s enough that I don’t think I will vote for her unless she convincingly explains why she moved off those positions, which I don’t think she intends to do.*

*- I think trying to falsely portray oneself as a gettable vote on here is pathetic, so in the interest of full disclosure, I would crawl through the biohazard disposal dumpster of an HIV clinic to vote against Trump if I lived in a battleground state.
If you're in Memphis, you can crawl through all the HIV your heart desires 😂

I don't know why the Presidential Medal of Freedom is held in such high regard, when the President can just give it to whoever the hell he wants to. Trump gave one to Rush Limbaugh. He also gave one to multiple donors of his. No award has any true meaning when you can buy it.

I have read quite a bit concerning the history of the Medal of Honor recipients .... these are some of the most interesting people in our nation's history. I recommend Googling Willie Johnston or Willie Johnston Drummer Boy.

The more I think anybody knows about the people who have received the Medal of Honor ..... the more you would agree that it is an insult to their legacies to draw similarities with what really is just a hollow attaboy from one person.

I’m sorry but I don’t understand the latter. What’s the problem with reading Hitler’s speeches? The same can be said for Stalin or Mao. Becoming educated on the words of serial mass murderers and their acquisition of power is something freedom seekers should be familiar with.

Yeah...that's what Trump is about.

It's hard to imagine a life where knowing Hitler speeches would be useful in any way, and I am a freedom seeker. Occam's razor says he simply found it interesting....or he wanted to learn how to win at populism.
