2024 Presidential Race

Nobody has an answer for this.* They just insist that it’s not what it clearly was and laugh at people pointing out what it was.

But then they get offended when you point out that they are gullible or believe what they want to be true.

*- hat tip to @volfanhill for blaming the lawyers. The only substantive answer I’ve gotten, and from a guy who doesn’t even defend Trump.
I think a lot of it comes down to messaging. worst day in US history? worse than 9/11? There was SSOOOO much hyperbole around it, that it makes it difficult to take the critiques as honest, or worth much consideration. I remember legit thinking I was going to see pitchforks and torches, huge flames coming from the Capitol, and members of Congress & staff swinging on ropes, when I first read about it on CNN.

especially when you compare that language with another borderline civil war starter, in the Trump assassination attempt, how Trump fell down after a loud noise.

and its been chicken little with Trump from day 1. I remember the Rs losing their minds with Obama, but what happened with Trump was something else. Trump getting two scoops of ice cream was ruining our foreign policy and going to start WW3. His tie was too long, and that meant no one was going to respect him on the world stage. Every single piece of rhetoric on Trump was ratcheted up to 11 from day one. so when, after 4 years of that, we get a big enough event to go to 11, it was back ground noise. boy who cried wolf. I keep waiting for their to be an improvement in one sides reaction to the other, but it doesn't look like its happening in my life.

also most of right leaning, not even sayings Rs or MAGAs, don't put as much emphasis on the physical government as more left leaning people do. like if Washington just magically disappeared tomorrow, most right leaning people are going to react a lot less dramatically than the left leaning would. so even the Capitol had been burnt down most on the right weren't going to assume it was the end of the US or our way of government.

100% the reaction from the right would have been worse if it was Dems storming the capitol instead of MAGA, but it wouldn't have been 1/6 reaction bad. just different priorities, messaging, and perceived threat levels.

You gotta do better than that. When you cast your vote you're voting FOR that person no matter what you want to tell yourself.
You can vote FOR someone simply because they are not the other.
If I say "I'm voting FOR Harris because she IS NOT trump", instead of "I'm NOT voting FOR Harris, I'm voting AGAINST trump."....................does it make a difference? It seems to be the same sentiment either way.

You do you, I'm not voting for someone I with ideals and views that oppose mine simply because I don't like the other candidate. That's weaksauce.

These were posted *after* the riot.

Trump waited over 3 hours to tell people to stop attacking our Capitol Building.

I mean, come on man.

Do tell why it took him 3 hours.

I would have been on the phone in 2 minutes after being briefed. Then been on an emergency Oval Office TV presentation in 15 minutes.

And would have mobilized all available LEOs and Nat Guard immediately.

Trump didn't do this because... drum roll please... HE WANTED THE RIOT TO HAPPEN.

That will never get through Congress
doesn't matter. that is incredibly dangerous rhetoric from the face of a party.

a presidential candidate speaking it makes it far more mainstream and acceptable to the general public. especially with the media pushing it. yet alone if she wins, that pressure will be much more. Its just another of those "it will never happen, but now that it is happening we are going to down play it" moments.

It’s was a inside job plus Antifa acting like Trump supporters

Are you suggesting I would have voted for Adolf Hitler in 1930s Germany?

Wow, dude. You're always finding ways to sink to new lows.

Yes, when Hitler was running in the 30s he was advocating more central control, spending and welfare. He wasn't running on a platform calling for the extermination of the Jews. He pretty much campaigned on a lot of the things you advocate. Learn some history.

Exactly how is a president supposed to mobilize LEO and even Pelosi has admitted she refused his offer of having NG troops at the capitol.

It is easy looking back at it, but do you actually think that everyone that help put him in power knew what was coming? We would all like to think that we are above making bad decisions about leaders, but to many bad people have risen to power for it to be so simple. If Harris wins and we go full blown communist in the next ten years you would look as gullible as those who voted for Hitler.

ehhh, I think a large chunk of this country, left and right, would have voted for Hitler back then in those conditions. he was INSANELY popular. which if you believe in democracy that is all that matters.

when elected Hitler of the 1930s wasn't nearly as evil as 1940s Hitler, and people of the time certainly wouldn't have known about any of it.
