2024 Presidential Race

Far be it from me that I should argue with the genius of ChatGPT, but that is equine scatology. The only way in which the US visa system is "complex" is that it has a ton of options. Most would consider that an advantage if the nation wants to encourage legal immigration. There may be long wait times due to high demand, but I wouldn't think that a country with a prohibitive immigration system would generate high enough demand to develop long wait times.

The fact that this AI bot thinks Australia has an easier system than the US should tell you all you need to know.
It doesn't tell me anything. Can you support why you think the US is the easiest? All I can find are lists that are easiest for Americans to immigrate to (which is why I asked GPT), and Australia consistently ranks.

Edit: I did find this:

No US here, but Australia is here:

I wish we had Australia's borders along with its border patrol, massive great white sharks.

I live in a great version. But I don't throw a tantrum with every election as if my personal freedom and safety depends on the right candidate.

Your version of 'better' may not be everyone's version. The people who don't agree may threaten to leave.

See the folly of the cyclical nature?

No. I honestly don't even understand why we're talking about celebrities.

Bama was patting us on the back for having the most welcoming immigration system. I pointed out it's not true.

Then doc said Oprah should move to the other countries we're ranked with, for some reason.

The America that Trump thinks was great was built by immigrants, and me, wanting America to be better, am in support of immigration reform that simplifies and welcomes more wonderful immigrants. Idk and don't care what Oprah thinks about that

You don't see the folly in it? Surely you can appreciate what makes america better in your eyes will not be shared by everyone.

The routine celebrity tantrums morphed into a conversation between me and you about the larger concept.

Yeah, if I got chastised for the "your side" comment and he's voted for Trump multiple times, all I can do is chuckle
Eh, I think “95% of the crap you hear about Trump isn’t true so that’s not my reservation at all. In fact, all that stupidity almost makes me want to vote for him because it’s funny watching the left lose their minds over him,” is enough to validate the comment.

There have been a few reported stories that were proven untrue. There have been more that have proven true. The majority have been somewhere in between.

There has been a significant shift in media coverage over the past 10 years. And not for the better. But even inflating the count with the “Experts say Trump rally statement may have broken the law” and “1,037 experts sign letter denouncing Trump” stories and tossing things like “asked his Vice President to overturn the results of the election” into the undecided category, you have to be at the point of ignoring admissions or adjudicated outcomes of things like sexual assault, fraud, and misspending charity funds to just write off “the crap you hear about Trump” as a nothing burger.

At that point, you’re a Trump supporter. Maybe not as obvious as pretending that you don’t see anything weird about kissing somebody’s else’s pre-teen daughter on the mouth, but enough that it’s a silly, disingenuous pretense.

If people like that the US is hard to immigrate to, and I point it out without comment or criticism, I assume they would like my post instead of getting butthurt and deflecting by telling people to move elsewhere. Anybody can disagree with me about immigration, but the point is that you shouldn't leave because you don't like something. You should try to make it better, whatever you think that means.

I don't think immigrating to the States should be as hard as it is. The system is broken and nobody wants to fix it (if it can be fixed at this point).

Treatment of the flag is such an emotional issue.
It's like when recruits and players new to the Vols step on the power T in the locker room. People get hot about that stuff.

Flag culture is pretty weird. The people who claim to respect it the most and have the most patriotism will also wear American flag socks.

It's idealistic. But I understand your point.

Try this nuance to the discussion, many of us leave what we think are bad situations for better ones. I chose to not live in metro area. Chose to not live in a medium size town. You chose Az over Ut. We didn't stay and make the situations better. we bounced.

that's both sides.

Biden was sharp as a tack, and then left out in the rain in the matter of a couple hours of TV back in July.

every side believes what they want to believe, and classify anything else as misinformation/lies/propaganda.

the thing I see with Trump more so is the shear volume of stuff that comes out about him gives it a good bit of "boy who cried wolf", and the conspiratorial aspect of "he was proven guilty about a parking ticket, so the Russian pee tape MUST be real". I mean we had people in Congress promising they had those pee tapes and they were going to release them.....nothing. so when he is found not guilty of the big things, that makes it easier to dismiss the smaller items even if he is found guilty of those.

neither side ever will sit down and say "yes my guy was guilty of X" they will just focus on "my guy wasn't guilty of Y". even if X is 100% proven true. neither side is willing to have an honest conversation. Trump isn't any different except for scale of accusations and his lack of false remorse when caught.

Did you leave as a political statement/tantrum? I did not

Sure, John. Sure. That makes Whoopi and also that canker sore, Rosie O’Donnell. Let’s examine the rest of the list from 2016. Miley Cyrus, Barbara Streisand, Bryan Cranston, Snoop Dog, Chelsea Handler, George Lopez, Samuel L Jackson, Jon Stewart, Cher, Raven Symone, Neve Campbell, Ne-Yo, Chloe Sevigny, and others. So….., why haven’t you all left? You doubled down on how serious you were about it. C’mon all you big balled tough nuts. What say you in 2024?? I’ll even help you pack if he wins this time.
This sounds like a pretty good start to me.

*I will admit, I've not heard of some those people but I'm sure I won't miss them either.

Honestly, I don't think it would be that hard to improve if we just had a Republican POTUS who cared about streamlining it. I think a Democratic president who cared about streamlining it (this person doesn't exist) would probably face too much opposition, given the nature of the parties right now. A Republican could pitch it as smarter government and that would fly, but that same pitch would never work from a D.

Neither side will streamline it because it's too political, gives both sides something to argue about while doing other shady **** where we're not looking.

For the record, I do think that voting with your feet is fine. I think leaving a terrible political situation is fine. I think it's OK to feel helpless and move on with your life. This is a really easy thing to do within the United States, and it actually does send a message to lawmakers when Californians are leaving in droves for AZ.

But to respond to a point about the US by saying people should move to other countries is one of the lowest forms of political discourse.
