2024 Recruiting Thread

Based on MC's list, the following are left, as well as my untrained gut instinct on where they will land...

2024 offers:

Joyce Edwards (1) --------------- SC
Mikayla Blakes (16) --------------- Stanford, if Stanford can stay in a real conference
Arianna Roberson (27) --------------- Texas
Me'Arah O'Neal (35) --------------- LSU
Bryanna Preston (40) --------------- Tennessee
Zania Socka-Nguemen (43) --------------- MI

it is starting to appear that we will have 2 recruits in three high school recruiting cycles. With Pissott headed to Vandy that gives us really 1 in three high school recruiting cycles. That is not a very good record for high school recruiting. Apparently we are good portal recruiters. I believe that we need to be good at both. Some may not like Kim Mulky but she is very good at both. Because of Mulky LSU has risen as a top contender for multiple championships. That being said, I believe that this year we have a shot at going deep into the playoff. KJH has assimilated some very good players, the next thing is to get them to jell into a cohesive unit. This unit has the ability to surprise a lot of people in a positive manner.

Good list. There are a few more still in play as well.

If you get 5 different players, you get players that have played in 5 different teams, playing in 5 different systems, and if they were good, they may have been the go-to player, or a selfish player, or a player who has had issues with playing time. When you recruit from High School, you are looking for kids that will fit into the system the coach wants to play. Picking from the portal, I believe the coaches are looking for the best player available, regardless of position. Look, last year it took the LVs many games before they started to click because of the reasons I have mentioned. One player from the portal to fill a need is what you really want, but to fill most or all of your team from there will probably not let you go where you want to go. Just sayin. If the team needs to go there, okay, but don't give up on the High School recruiting.
Solid and accurate assessment.

What would you consider a successful year for the Lady Vols, and what would be a disappointment ?

A disappointment would be struggling to stay healthy and/or this team taking until the 2nd half of the regular season to build team chemistry. Being ranked outside of the Top 10 when conference play starts would also be a disappointment.
A successful year would be a full regular and post-season with no major injuries.
Finishing the regular season in the Top 10.
Multiple players receiving All-SEC honors.
Having an WBB All-American selection.
Winning the SEC championship.
Signing four SEC caliber players via the portal and high school in the 2024 Class.
*I believe if the LVols can stay healthy going into the NCAA tourney this will be a history making season. From top to bottom, not many teams have built a better roster and one that checks every box in the talent categories.

I agree with this. I do think the last two years would have been different had we not lost a jordy 2 years ago and TK last year. A healthy season makes all the difference in the world.

This is not a Joyce Edwards tweet. Wonder if it is true?

That’s an interesting list but nevertheless a lot is changing on the recruiting landscape. I viewed Raoul Twitter page for a breakdown and Tennessee since March - August has been on a recruiting blitz. The momentum does not seem to be slowing down anytime soon with the major coaching announcement of GA additions which both have proven track records across the HS and College sports world. These individuals are equivalent to paid assistant coach level personnel.
One of the LVols new GA’s even has a larger Instagram following than LSU’s talkative recruiting coordinator and assistant coach just to put things in perspective.
I am confident that Tennessee will sign 2 possibly 3 more 2024 recruits.
They recently landed a former Top 20 2022 5star
McD All-American in combo guard T.Coop. Kaniya Boyd, an elite combo guard is an early Tennessee 2024 commit ranked at #29 which is only one spot behind the latest Standford 2024 commit and three spots from a 5star ranking. I’m not concerned where the final 2024 commits rank for Tennessee, get players that are dedicated to being a part of the program and fit the brand of basketball that can compete for a 9th National Championship.

If it is true, it's an interesting list as well. Academics were supposed to be one of the driving factors for her, and LSU and Ole Miss are not known as being top tier SEC academic schools. LSU is 13th of 14 SEC schools and Ole Miss is 11th. SC is 7th for reference, and UT currently 6th.

It doesn't appear to be true and that tweet did what it was supposed to get everyone worked up for it just not to be true... LOL, it will be interesting when she puts out her own list to see if they are on it. I thought something was fishy because she keeps saying academics so why no Duke? An academic school and i don't think it's too far of a drive for them.

Sometimes a person has a very specific academic field in mind, and in some cases that specific major might be very strong at a school not considered strong overall.

When people say academics, not always about prestige of each institution but what they offer in the field they want and opportunities each university offers. Like one school may have one of the top programs in the country in a specific field but the overall institution is not ranked very high.

Btw that account is run by a SC fan piggy backing off multiple paysites running with rumors and actual paid info to try to gather a following

But for the record I did hear Joyce Edwards has visits with SC, Stanford and LSU this fall. Duke is in the mix but We will see if they are in the final group. Hadnt heard much about ole miss in the picture at all. TN is still pushing hard for a visit but hadn’t heard anything scheduled yet

I agree... I just don't see anything academically prestigious about LSU 😂... I've heard those same schools were in the mix but also heard there was convo between TN and Edwards but i don't think there is much traction.

I did see Shaquille O'neal opened up a restaurant in TN and i think it's the only location 🤔 ... just stirring the pot lol

LSU has one of the best landscape architecture programs in the entire country but overall not great in rankings. But a college degree is a college degree, it’s a major accomplishment to do that regardless of where you go IMO. But I have no clue what Joyce wants to do in college and after.

Hoping Edwards visits but it’ll be a tough task for anyone to pull her out of SC. Just feel there is an incredible amount of pressure to stay home coming from everywhere. I could be wrong though.

we saw that with cooper ... from what i've heard she committed but hadn't announced and then went home and people got in her ear and changed her mind...

My jab at LSU was more of a im surprised they even go to class lol 😂 but on a serious tip you mentioned a degree from anywhere is an accomplishment and it truly is. I hope Angel AND Kim both see that and she puts more effort into her studies! No way she should have been left off any all american award or team due to not meeting a GPA requirement

I hope for Angel’s sake she does as well. I heard she got in trouble at Maryland for not going to class at times. She probably does the same at lsu. Idk how she has time for her studies with all the NIL circus, that’s a lot to balance.

I saw Alexis Morris just graduated yesterday. Four colleges later, I’m happy she is at least leaving with a degree. Basketball won’t last forever unfortunately so it’s good to come out of college with an education and a skillset built to peruse things outside of sports when the time comes. Sadly a lot of football and basketball players go into college not with that mindset but just only to go to the pros mindset
