2024 Recruiting Thread

I'd be curious to know how many UT fans --overall and on this board--actually graduated from UT or any college. I'd assert that a majority are not college grads. If one spent any time on the Michigan and Notre Dame sports forums, to name two, the opposite seems to be the case.

T-shirt fans are universal, myself included. I'm a filthy interloper who could have gone to Tennessee, but had a great opportunity and graduated from college elsewhere. But that said, I have numerous ties to the university through family, and paid good money to attend Tennessee sporting events with teams coached by Kevin O'Neill, Jerry Green, Derek Dooley, Butch Jones, Jeremy Pruitt, and Buzz Peterson. Between that and the towering stacks of souvenir drink cups in my basement, I feel like I've earned some form of partial credit.

Good lord! You do have battle scars! Just reading that list made me a little sick!
‘81 and ‘83 here and more money and time spent schlepping to Knoxville for football games than I care to recall. Let me clarify that I got my bachelor’s degree when I was nine.

Nobody is "pocketing the money." The money goes back into the athletic department--and the university--to cover all kinds of operating and capital expenses, insurance, travel, the whole nine yards.
So, the football coach doesn't make 9 million per year, the basketball coach 5 mil per year, and the assistants collectively don't make millions? The AD doesn't make big bucks? Nike isn't making big bucks off of their brand merged with ours? C'mon, man.

Yes, many scars, indelibly etched, and they make me nauseous to think of too. Some three decades past, but still raw to the touch. The Hobnail boot, Taurasi in Atlanta, Ohio State in San Antonio, Matt Mauck's QB draws. Gaffney did not catch that pass. I doubt they'll ever fade.

Now what's this about a degree at nine? How's that then? You one of them readers I've heard about?

College football coaches are absurdly overpaid--a symptom of how ridiculous U.S. college football is--but Heupel is a //school/state employee.// The coaches, like all coaches, are adults with careers and full-time jobs. The players are STUDENTS, not employees. Why is this such a hard concept to grasp? Students--not employees. Classes. Education, all of that. They are also getting a FREE college education--plus housing, food, health care, tutoring, counseling and more--all worth at least $50,000 a YEAR. That's monetary value--money.

It's curious that the "give us free money" crowd never actually talks about the fact that the players are "student-athletes" who are already getting a major monetary benefit. Actually, it's not curious to me---the activists are always looking for more "free money." Why don't you ask all the regular college students in America if they'd like a free college education instead of having to borrow significant sums of money to pay for their education, which they will be paying off for years.

Anyone in TN can get a free college education at any of our wonderful community colleges.

Bottomline, it is clearly unconstitutional and nonsensical to prevent student-athletes from earning money from teaching opportunities, sponsorships, speaking appearances, etc just as any scholarship artist or musician can do.

Pretty sure there is an NIL thread for just this conversation…
Son of a gun,,,you're right
;o)

Yes, yes that’s it! A reader!

We've been in final fours and fives etc before lets us hope we win one.

Your opinion is valid.
Just as I see Tennessee currently with three upcoming HS commitments all highly ranked prospects and portal dominance.
They’ve won their fair share and that’s fine with me.

!We're building a team of all guards. I mean its great to be in on someone, but what we need is a post! Going to have to get a young post in the portal. Karo and Jill will be seniors next year then who?
The Ballout tweeted a prediction for Zania Socka to UCLA and then deleted it. UCLA has 4 6’4 kids plus 6’7 Betts with multiple years of eligibility. This kid is too talented to ride the bench for 2 years

Talent breeds talent… the portal is still here. Doesn’t Jill have 3 years left bc she red shirted at Georgia

We are loaded w players w 2 yrs elig left (counting this yr). Tess, Jewel, and Destinee all have this yr plus covid yr and Jill, Sara, Karo, and Wynn are true Jrs. w two yrs left. I believe TK may actually have 2 yrs left as well, if last yr counted as med redshirt. Big turnover coming.
