2024 Recruiting Thread

Can’t pick and choose which games to cherry pick for the case. She’s a 3 year player…I’m a benchmark guy, what did you do against Stanford, UConn, LSU and SC is coming up. You chose to say SEC in a year where the SEC is supposedly down. I’m not against Tess playing, believe she needs minutes off the bench as a role player based on what she’s done in the big games.

Tess is touted as the “sharp shooter” of the team.
What?!? I’m cherry picking?!? I think it rather widely recognized that non conference and conference are “separate seasons”. HECK there are even special awards for ALL SEC PLAY/CHAMPIONSHIPS (oh yeah those things don’t take Stanford or Uconn games into acct) but funny I don’t remember any “big game awards”. You CAN win a conference championship tho. Like I’m legit confused. If anyone is cherry-picking it’s u. I used Jill bc u recently mentioned her to start also, but she gets different criteria I guess. (Even tho I don’t disagree bc of her position)

Not discounting any game, just not choosing to overlook any game or results…they all count. I used Jillian as our 3rd best player and you chose to go Tess. So let’s stay on topic as you chose to merge different discussions.

FYI…big game award is called National Champion

Post?
This is Justine,,,the kid who shoots from the logo
She's a stretch FWD
He meant post as in posting a text…..he was right, reading is hard…..

“I literally said she’ll be a good player but isn’t the answer rn…. Reading is hard. There is so much Tess hate here. Every other post is who should start over her… so if that not hate I’d hate to see what is”

She plays the wrong position on D. She need to be guarding a big. It’s how she’s always played. She typically guarded the 5 on her summer team. Sara Pucket also has this problem
They both have been put in the paint and Justine wasn’t good there either. And even Pucket struggle to score and defend against athletes in the paint.

14 on 5-9 today another double digit game with 1 turnover… 6/12 game double digits now. I will say JP needed more than 8 mins

Justine didn't look lost today, except for that air ball. She is ok but not great at defending the opponent's three, unless they're quick. im thinking her future is as a stretch four and for that she's gonna have to get stronger to defend and score down low.

All that is is lack of game minutes. She is so excited to get out there some bad shots are gonna fly. It didn't seem to bother our coaching staff too bad. She just needs game minutes and our preseason scheduled didn't allow for a whole lot of that this year. Justine is gonna be fine.

Were loaded with stretch fours need some quick guards that can score off the dribble and shoot the three. That is what this team is missing most. We can't get them this year so that has to be one of the objectives of the portal. Also have to replace the speed on the wings of Horston and Jackson. Staff has a huge task to get all this done.

Here's a unique idea... how about training the ones we have

I think Wynn, Miles and Powell need a lot of work offensively. I thought all three would be better than they have been this season. All three are going to be recruited over in the portal unless they can learn to shoot the ball. I wouldn't trust any of the three right now to be what we needed next season at the guard positions.

Re o ur development of players,,this is the most confusing...Kellie is an ex-PG, yet development of that position's players and consistent play from the primaries is visibly slower than other spots

To be fair, most of that position's players they've had to work with have not been elite, and many like Walker not true point guards.

Coach; That`s not gonna work looking at Tennessee roster you have what you have and it is what it is?. You can train Puckett, Striplin, Darby, Powell, Wynn, Justine .Miles Those 7 players returning next year can they get better sure they can. But remember all 7 have there limitation Darby is a spot up shooter and will always be a spot up shooter nothing else. Striplin lacks the mobility and athleticism to deal with the better post players on the block. Justine i think will be a good one she has a lot of talent and upside, But not sure what her roll is on this team as of now. I think the reason for the lack of playing time is her defense and rebounding ? but i could be wrong. Puckett is in the same boat as Darby and Striplin but with more weapons on the offensive end. Note she also lacks the foot speed and athleticism.

Miles is a righty,, Wynn is a lefty. we have been bothered by short speedy guards the entire year ... why not take what is used against us and develop the same type of weapons

A very large part of coaching is taking Athletic individuals and making them basketball players

You can be athletic and still bad on the offensive and defensive end. Not taking anything away from Miles or Wynn just saying they are limited on what they can bring to the court. And right now TN needs more then what they can bring If you ask me Wynn has more upside then all of the players but just can`t put it all together.

The problem that those two a going to have is that you can sag off them and only guard them from 15ft in.

The message to both this offseason should be you're currently a defensive specialist, if you ever want to be more than that, show me you can make 1/3 wide-open 3s in game situations. You don't have to be Steph Curry, just 1/3 when wide open. Do that and you're looking at 20 minutes playing time.
