2024 Target List

Swartz, Nowell, McCarty, Jones feel like the guys with the most going on currently…Jordan McCullum will be interesting to keep an eye on just because he’s originally from East Tennessee so have to imagine if Tennessee wants him they’ll have a good shot!
I will try to catch a game from McCullum this year if we pursue harder.

Could know something rather soon with Jones. Apparently wants to commit in July
I do wonder if maybe that’s one that hasn’t been talked about enough…his only visit to a campus has been Tennessee and he talks about making a decision next month, no current mention of other visits planned. Obviously that can change and he could take a bunch of visits, but would have to think if he doesn’t take any other visits Tennessee is the likely favorite.

And if that is the case, it might be a situation where Tennessee decided to focus on Jones and let Nowell go after he decided to slow things down and flirt with other schools like UCONN and UK. Bird in the hand, if you will, if Jones was ready to make a decision.

Per VQ the NCAA actually listened and made a smart move, they made an addendum to the 1 visit rule they dropped out of left field and now say if you visit before July 1 that you can then OV to that same school as a senior (sounds like 1 year waiver deal). So that is why Swartz is coming in to OV this weekend as it will count as junior year OV and he can then come back as a senior if he chose to. It also means that Nowell can now OV as a senior back to Tennessee if he wants.

What do you mean about the 1-yr waiver? That this is only a one-time exemption to the new rule because some kids already burned up their OV to certain schools as juniors thinking they'd have another opportunity to visit officially as a senior?

Right, that’s my understanding at least…so a junior 2025 class) who visits us this year (Jermaine O’Neal) won’t be able to OV as a senior here.

It's curious as to why the staff continues to schedule these early OVs with guys like O'Neal knowing that. I wonder if they feel like they either don't have a great chance to land him and are just swinging for the fences early hoping to leave him in awe, or if they think they have a great chance at him and want to lock him down early. Or is he a potential option to reclass for 2024 and we may get his only OV?

Not sure on the answer, as I said before knowing those things plays a huge part obviously….potential reclass could be a big reason, or if a kid has communicated he plans to commit prior to his senior year that’s another good reason as well. Also, with O’Neal specifically they probably figure with who his dad is he has the means to come back to UOV whenever he wants.

I'll have to see it to believe it. Just don't get a great feeling on this one.
Getting the ability to host again for an OV was a nice development, having to go that long without him being on campus would’ve been tough.

I’m interested to see if Tennessee can get an OV from McCarty squeezed in before July 1st so that they can then host him again as a senior. Seems like right now it’s pretty set that Nowell, Swartz & McCarty are their Top 3 on the board.

I dont understand the original point of the rule anyways.
Imo it should be 1 visit per year when they're eligible for OV. If a kid has 10 visits and wants to use 2 to one school then the AA shouldn't stop that.
