2024 Transfer Portal Thread

@bleedingTNorange @Stoerner Fumbles Is the situation with Lanier touch and go? Alot of speculation around him, but I just find it odd that he didn't enter the portal when he declared for the draft. Would be surprised if he stayed in the draft but can't imagine him going back to North Florida. Basilio has been saying that the Bone brothers have been strongly advocating for Tennessee.
He’s one of the earliest players we contacted. Word is he didn’t want to be inundated with offers and visits. Not sure he succeeded. If he withdraws from draft (assumed) I think he plans to decide/commit quickly.

His advisors want him to see the NBA process through, and then likely withdraw, that’s not a quick process and could cause so uncertainty.

I don't know about that. They're pretty similar if you ask me. Both are going to be small forwards in this offense. Between the two, Anderson averaged 1 more 3-pt attempt and 1 less 2-pt attempt per 40 minutes. Tyson may be a little more physical, but also a year older.

That's not to say I don't think we should aim for both as like you were saying, they are different classes, Anderson may be more willing to be a depth piece next year, and it provides some roster class depth.

Edit: unless he is talking about Cade Phillips, in which case I'm with you. Not very similar. I assumed he was projecting Cade Tyson onto the roster.
Nope, he was talking about Phillips and comparing him to Anderson lol

Someone just promise me that Dubar and Igor aren't going to be Great Value EJ Anosike and Ryan Childress?

Done, Dubar is far more athletic than EJ and will be closer to Great Value JJJ imo. Igor I think is closer to Great Value Grant Nelson.

I might be off...but watching Igor he moves like DK. Great length and everything seems smooth and his highlights look impressive. Granted they are highlights and he's playing at Charlotte...but the American is a pretty damn good basketball conference.

One unfortunate reality with Lanier is that he signed with Tandem in DC. Jim Tanner is the founding partner and a UNC grad and close pal of Davis. I think UNC’s boat is pretty full and getting fuller, but they covet Lanier.

I don’t think Mabor is a competent big, maybe that’s why we’re differing lol

You could be right he has as much potential of being Tamba as he does competent.

I will say though from the highlights I've seen, he's already a high release shooter and he has great hands. Seems to do a great job of keeping the ball high in traffic and keeping 2 hands on it.

Not even OSU fans want him 🤣🤣

Why are you arguing over a random player anyways? It seems like anyone I don’t like, bothers you.

It’s good to be in your head

Tucker Anderson is the 19th rated SF in the portal and his mother Sheila Frost Anderson won 2 national championships here with Pat Summit.

He'd be a good addition especially with 3 years left to play, but for me if we've already landed Tyson and Igor I don't know if we'd get much value out of Anderson unless we knew he was willing to be a 2+ year guy here, which we honestly don't know that with anyone.

Well I saw this against average to decent teams

Mizz: 3-8, 3-6, 11 points

OK: 2-11, 1-7, 6 points

KState: 4-15, 1-8, 13 points

Candy: 3-8, 1-3, 7 points

Tulsa: 1-9, 0-4, 3 points

Average: 8ppg, 13-51 (25%), 6-28 (21% from 3)

And said nah. I’m sure I’ll get the “he’s a freshman speech”

UNC has become an irritant. If we're going to be butting heads with them this much in recruiting, then when we play them we need to beat them soundly. Letting them run out to a big lead and hold on for the win, having them fall into our #1 seed position, and now screw with our recruiting all makes for anger management issues.

He was freshman conference player of the year, I’m not advocating for him to be our top priority, but when we’re talking about how it’s gonna be hard to fill the back end of the roster with guys ok with not getting 20+mpg he’s about as good as you could ever ask for IMO.

Could be a silver lining if they end up pulling Tyson

Dude like you with other players, I don’t like his stats against the teams I posted above. When I posted the Townsend last week you said something like “nah, not efficient”

Okay well I don’t like Anderson’s shooting against HM schools.

And that’s a fair point and much better take than saying he’s too similar to Cade lol. The numbers aren’t impressive in those games, is that a sign of things to come for 3 years or a building block for the future? Nobody knows. As I said, not suggesting he should come here and out top get, but not sure how anyone could argue that taking him as a 12/13 type roster guy who’s willing to sit/redshirt for a year before his turn because he wants to play at Tennessee isn’t a good move 🤷🏻‍♂️

If I thought Townsend was willing to come here and RS for a year that would change my mind on him

What’s the difference really?

Townsend would come in and score immediately, he’s proven it. Anderson not so much.

If you take Anderson, you risk losing someone in the post. If you take Townsend you risk losing someone. Why does that matter?

At this point anyone could leave. Take the best of the best.

I wouldn’t take Anderson over Tyson/Dubar/Igor is why.

And no, I don’t think Anderson would be a factor this year, thus he doesn’t likely cause you to lose anyone, that’s my point.

Okay I’ll leave at that, don’t want to risk blowing up this thread.

Thanks for having a conversation.

I mean... JJJ had a 4 game stretch to end the season where he went 2-19 and 14 points total... it happens.

All 5 of those games you picked were road games and all 5 happened in 2023 during his first 14 games playing in college.

That’s the only games I saw worth posting. If I skipped over any actual good teams please post them.

Wasn’t trying to cherry pick lol

I mean, 4 of those 5 were their toughest opponents on the year Trippie... lol that's a pretty tall order for a true freshmen on a bad team. The fact he hung 11 at Mizzou and 13 at Kansas State while shooting poorly actually improves his stock in my eyes if I'm honest.

The other high rated SRS opponents

at Loyola Marymount: (off the bench) 6-14, 5-10, 17 points
at Hawaii: (started) 8-15, 4-7, 23 points

So his per game average over their top 7 opponents was 11.4 ppg. For a true freshmen that we'd be taking as backup/project option I'd be happy with that, if that's where we end up. I'd personally prefer a solid big (but that's also because Awaka is still in the portal as of now).

I’m over Ballo, that was a marriage like McCollum last year.

I just can’t wrap my head around Awaka. Why? I couldn’t honestly tell you.

With Tucker, it’s not as much he’s talent like I complained about as much as it is we have Cade on the team, who in my opinion from film plays a lot like him. I just feel like that may cause an issue, maybe not now but later, playing time wise. If he was an incoming freshman my stance would be different since he would be a year behind those guys.
The one thing about Anderson compared to Cade is it looks like Anderson's is a legitimate 3-point threat right now, whereas I'm not sure Phillips has that at the moment. On top of that, guys could be similar in size/build and have different skill sets which I think may be the case with those two right now. I definitely like Phillips' upside, so it will be interesting to see his development going forward.
