2024 Transfer Portal Thread

Jaylen Wells, who I think is one of the best overall shooters around... Is he in the portal? Or is he just entering the draft?

What’s the difference really?

Townsend would come in and score immediately, he’s proven it. Anderson not so much.

If you take Anderson, you risk losing someone in the post. If you take Townsend you risk losing someone. Why does that matter?

At this point anyone could leave. Take the best of the best.
You can't have 13 guys on scholarship that expect minutes, so you need a couple of guys on the back end of the roster who are projects/developmental guys. If you hit on them in 1-2 years great, if they don't develop to the level you need, then they will hit the portal and get recruited over. I think that is the whole point right now for both Anderson and the Mabor kid. You need 13 players for practice purpose as well as needing emergency bigs in case of injury. You're. not getting 13 guys, nor do you want 13 guys who expect to 20+ minutes next year. Just simple roster management.

I’m very intrigued by the Anderson kid from central Arkansas. I know he’s probably not top of the list for you trippie, but as a freshman averaging 14.5/4 with 38% from 3 is a solid freshman season. It’s also good because if we get him in here and he’s good then we have him for at least 2 years. BTO, is he on our radar still? Or is he further down down the board?

Comparing Anderson to Mabor is hilarious lol. I do agree with your point, but if Anderson comes in I think he will play. Whereas Mabor may not ever play if he comes here.

I think he’s on our radar, but as mentioned he’d have to likely be ok with not much of a role this year. He’s taking other visits and I’m sure they are telling him he’ll play and have a major role.

He’s one of the earliest players we contacted. Word is he didn’t want to be inundated with offers and visits. Not sure he succeeded. If he withdraws from draft (assumed) I think he plans to decide/commit quickly.
I haven't done my homework... Is Lanier going to graduate, therefore no need to enter portal??

Not making a comparison between Anderson and Mabor at all, and not sure how you got that from my post. My point was, they are two guys who would be developmental players/projects on the back end of the roster, which is needed in today's climate especially. Anderson at this point definitely seems to have way more upside for the future. Hope that clears things up for you.🤣🤣

So Dia to Ole Miss, Gillespie to Maryland and Tyson to UNC or UT? How did Belmont lose 13 games? Or are these guys not as good as everybody hopes?

Tyson and Dia are interesting cause they have multiple years left to play. So still plenty of upside.

Edit: looks like Gillespie has multiple years to play as well.

Who knows, roster management is definitely hard. If that scenario played out, hypothetical rotation…

Zeigler/Boswell
Lanier/Gainey
Tyson/Mashack/Carr
Dubar/Igor/Cade
Awaka/Estrella/Mabar

Cade, Boswell and Mabar likely odd men out and potential RS, leaves you…

Zeigler/Gainey
Lanier/Carr
Tyson/Mashack
Dubar/Igor
Awaka/Estrella

10 man rotation, Gainey being a coaches kid you’d hope is a good team player and doesn’t cause an issue if he’s just a 10-15mpg guy. You’d ideally hope Carr is a rotational piece which is a jump from last year and is also good with just 10-15mpg as a sophomore and be ready for a big junior jump. One injury also shakes it all up and takes you down to a very manageable 9 man rotation, and how often do teams make it through a year without any injuries?
Even if we were to pull off a miracle and land all those guys I’d be shocked if Mashack isn’t starting and playing more minutes than anyone else not named Zeigler. But then again he should have played more this year.

I also feel like Tyson and Dubar on the court at the same time is a bad idea defensively. Just don’t see that as a viable lineup with Awaka or Estrella also on the floor unless Dubar is much quicker than I realize. I also don’t see Tyson playing much 3. Just too slow imo.

Knecht was able to do it but he’s obviously much more athletic than Tyson, and we had JJJ at the 4 who could guard anybody which made up for a lot.

Gillespie missed several games right in the middle of their conference season, and they struggled as a team with him out. I think they had a couple of other injury issues as well during the season. On top of that, the Missouri Valley is a very strong mid-major basketball conference. Indiana State, who won the regular season and lost in the tournament should have been in the NCAA tournament.

Sean Sparks posting that Tobe will withdraw his name from the portal by the end of the week. Hopefully, this is true...
Can’t wait to have a post foul out in 10 minutes, smh. Dudes meh, won’t change my stance on it.

Oh well, I’ll stop complaining about it now.

Looks like the “prediction” of next years roster by BTO may actually a bit more than just that.

I think due to injuries they were not on court together early in season. Towards end of the year, they started to put it together.
Yeah, you may be right, but looking at the participation stats, Dia played in every game, Tyson only missed 2 games, and Gillespie only missed 8 games. Maybe missing the PG was the primary issue for them.
