With Zeigler getting 35+mpg how many backup PG minutes are really available to him?Mack from Harvard is just going to be a sophomore correct? Zeigler is a senior and Mack will get plenty of playing time as his backup. Thus setting up for him to be the main PG in 25-26 season. You just gotta pitch it to him like that.
With the for sure departures of (DK, Santi, JJJ, and Freddie) added on with the expected departures of (Jefferson, maybe Phillips?) I think you are going to need a combo guard & two wing/Forward players.
ZZ/Gainey
Lanier/ Carr
Mashack/ Wing Transfer
Wing Transfer/ Awaka
Aidoo/ Estrella
I think this scenario is likely, but not sure who Barnes wants and who he pulls in. Sounds like Barnes is going after some solid wing players in the Belmont player, Dubar from Hofstra, and Saint Thomas. Think it would be a borderline top ten roster depending on the wing transfers you get.
We could also start Mashack at the 3, Thomas at the 4, and bring Dubar off the bench depending on the matchup. Looks good.Dream scenario would be Mashack accepting a 6th man role, we land Dubar, Thomas and Lanier.

I would argue that he’s having to play that much because we don’t trust many other guys to run the point at the moment. If we could limit him to 28-30 minutes a game it would make a huge difference for him. He was clearly gassed in the Purdue game. Also, you could do like they did with Chandler and play them both at the same time occasionally. You could definitely see him getting 12-15 minutes per game if not more. With Zeigler getting 35+mpg how many backup PG minutes are really available to him?
You are absolutely correct. We have no other true pure point guard. The KC + ZZ look worked out for us and often had short 6'3" Vescovi out there as well. It worked for us. Only difference is that they both were freshmen & Malik Mack (soph) + ZZ (Sr) would have a ton more experience. Plus Mack got 1.3 steals a game as well so I could see it working. Would take ZZ down to 30 minutes a game, but really he averaged 31.6 minutes on the season in total. Throw in a I can guard all Mashack with them, a small ball 4 w Saint Lanier & one of our centers and that 2 point guard game would be smooth and work perfectly. I could see our pitch to Mack being that ZZ+KC year.I would argue that he’s having to play that much because we don’t trust many other guys to run the point at the moment. With the departure of Dillione you’ve got nobody 6’6”-6’8” except for Awaka, who pretty clearly is a 5 in todays game. Can Estrella, Aidoo & Phillips give you some stretch 4, probably, but not sure that’s a nightly thing and it gives you no versatility. To me it’s pretty evident you’d probably likely to add 2 guys (now having room for at least 3) in that 6’6”-6’9” mold who are true 3/4 types with perimeter game to give you that versatility in lineups.

I think it could be difficult to beat out Mashack, but if we get Lanier I fully expect Gainey’s minutes to go down. They may lessen anyway with Carr getting more minutes. You’re always so quick to slide transfers into starting roles man lol
DK has been the only one in recent memory to start his first year coming here.
I think we’ll probably land 1 starter from the portal, maybe 2. But it’s going to be really difficult for incoming guys to beat out Gainey & Mashack
We played ZZZ and Chandler together a decent amount - could we not sell that to a portal PG?Mack from Harvard is just going to be a sophomore correct? Hahaha....it WAS Basilio! No offense but dude!! Now I need to go take a shower. Geez. What we really need to be worried about is Tobe Awaka. As I guess you all knew DJ & FAD was a given... but Awaka: He's being recruited hardcore and we want him to stay without a doubt. Only if he hits the portal that is when we would pursue another true big. I just don't want to see that guy leave but I'm hearing that's the one we need to be worried about at the moment unfortunately. Hopefully Zeigler & staff can convince him to stay.
Read an article that inferred that Musselman wears out his welcome pretty quickly everywhere he goes. Evidently pretty hard to get along with.Good riddance - his act grew old and I’m glad to see him moving out of the SEC. In light of the pig’s terrible season along with the odd locker room rumors, doubt those guys will get a lot of portal interest.
