2024 Transfer Portal Thread

They had a week off. NBA players play 80+ games in a season and nobody ever looks like they have “tired legs” late in the playoffs.

I have never understood this concept that players are tired at the end of the season.

They might have nagging injuries. But they aren’t tired IMO
NBA Players rest on defense the whole game.

Tucker Anderson wouldn't be a terrible consolation, IMO.

I asked earlier and got no response from anyone, but is Tyson that much better given Anderson has only played one year (and thus has more eligibility and less experience)? His offer list would seem to suggest so, but they seem quite similar. Anderson is also 2" taller. Tyson may be a better ball-handler and more complete as true 3-level scorer.

Tyson made a significant jump in efficiency from FR to SO. They played similar competition levels in conference and Anderson probably faced a better OOC slate.
I really like Tucker Anderson too. I've only watched a couple of his youtube videos so the sample size is small, but I am really impressed by all the different ways he scores. Just as impressive is the fact that he has no fear as a freshman. His numbers a very good: 38% from three with alot of volume. I would like to watch more to see if he plays any defense at all but I am wowed by his offense. At 6'9" with so many ways to score, good handle, and his fearlessness for a freshman I think his ceiling is really high.

His defensive numbers in terms of advanced metrics aren't encouraging by any means, but his size puts him at a bit of a disadvantage, so it's probably something you just have to deal with like we did with DK. 6-9, 190 can't guard opposing 2s and most 3s, and there isn't enough strength to keep 4s out of the paint. He could still add some good weight and maybe be more effective.

First thing I thought of was the SEC will snap that kid in 2. Your point is very well taken as it pertains to the size/speed matchups he'd face in this league. Kid might pack on 30lbs and be force, but I'm not sure he fits our needs at this particular point in time.

Lanier, and St. Thomas are too of the heap..I'd throw Tyson in as an extra..he did t produce well against top competition...like the other 2..same Tucker Anderson

Between the two, I would prefer Tyson as I think he may be ready to be a primary scoring option. UNC may be tough to beat for Tyson however. If RJ Davis and Ingram come back, Tyson would fit in nicely with them. Bet we get Tucker and Barnes along with our strength conditioning program can develop him for 3 years. His mom is Sheila Frost who was a Lady Vol in the 80's. Doubt he would need to start, which may be best for guys like Mashack who really deserves to be in the starting lineup next year.

I’d like another shooter with that group…Dubar, Tyson, Anderson would seem like solid options.
Exactly. We can’t replace Knecht with any single player, but if we could throw a group out there that has 4 legitimate 3 pt threats like ZZ, Lanier, Thomas, and Tyson/Dubar, plus a solid post, that’s how you avoid drop off. If a 4th spot opens up, I’d love to add a PG/CG who can spell ZZ, but of course the difficulty of doing that has been discussed.

If you don’t give ZZ some relief next season I think we’ll be lucky to be in the same shape we were this past season. He’s tough and can play 37-40 minutes a game but whether he or Barnes wants to admit it not only to us but themselves is a different story. Needs to play no more than 32 minutes and I think you’ll see him annd the team improve exponentially.

Just put in points instead of population growth and you can quickly see how ZZ can moving into scoring a little over 16,000 points a game by simply reducing his minutes.

Yeah, I went back and found a complete game on youtube between central ark and Mizz. Anderson's defense was weak and he seemed allergic to rebounding. He needs a year under Barnes tutelage and could probably then help the team in his junior year.

Purdue has 2 guys over that mark and UCONN has 3, not sure there’s evidence to really support that statement of not playing your best player as many minutes as they can handle.

I think I'd rather recruit my development type players from HS. Longer to eval and get to know. For me, the portal is to get guys who can help you right now.

OK, but being able to eval players after seeing them compete against other D1 college talent can be pretty revealing.

True enough, but I suppose I'm a bit spoiled and at my age, patience isn't what it once was. Before they flip the script in the portal, I wanna make hay with guys who can really make a difference now not a couple of years down the road.

Tramon Mark entered the portal.

That would be niceeeee lol
Former NBA player Dontae Jones is friends with Chaz Lanier and his family. Told me the relationship with Coach Rod Clark and staff is 💯. He's a great culture guy, a young man of faith. His parents both played ball at Lipscomb, so he's from TN. And his dad is like a pastor in Nashville. Anyway, Chaz Lanier is the reason we won't go after the guys like Johnell Davis + Tramon Marks. Same position.

We have a good one with Lanier and once he decides to not go through the NBA draft, he's a Vol

But I agree Tramon + Johnell are tough

Here’s my thing, would Lanier be okay coming off of the bench next year? I’d have to think Mashack would be in line to start.
