2024 Transfer Portal Thread

I want a 4 who can shoot from outside. And we need Jamai to continue to improve his outside shot. Having 4 guys on the floor who can knock down the 3 opens things up inside.

Chaz and Dubar seem to fit that. Although I expect both to drop playing in a better division

Still rather have Thomas over both

Lazy take...facts don't support this and data has shown coaches shorten their rotation in the tourney so the best players play more (which is what we did with ZZ).
ZZ was sucking wind in the Purdue game also and beating the front of the rim off late in the game and had to have a blow. A couple of small breaks during the game or take the ball handling off of him for a few plays here and there can only help his game.

I want all 3. Put Thomas at the stretch 4, Lanier at the 2, and Dubar at the 3. All can knock down the 3.

Thinking about it, we could run a small lineup and not have to worry about Aidoo or Awaka lol (just kidding)

ZZ
Lanier
Shack
Thomas
Dubar

In love, would wear teams out. Thomas being a good defender and rebounder only helps. Same with Dubar, he averaged 7rpg, averaged 1 steal per game and 1 block.

Try selling a transfer on being a backup to ZZ, it’s like you guys are missing this point each time you bring it up.. look at teams like UConn or Purdue and tell me who their back up pg is off the top of your head?

Circling back to this, how are you feeling regarding Awaka, Aidoo, Cade, DJ, etc?
I think the fact DJ hasn’t entered yet tells you what both Stoerner and I said, many thought he was already gone to the portal a month into the season, not the case. He loves it here and wants to be here, he dug himself a hole and had to deal with the consequences, he very well may find himself on next years roster. I think as of now everyone is “favored” to return, with that said you never know what 1 phone call can do and change things, giving the odds I’m sure we will see another entry at least, but right now I feel that everyone is leaning to return.

Much appreciated, as usual

Would love to see DJ carve himself out a role on next years team, you just can't teach his athleticism.

I like the progression of both Awaka and Aidoo’s game, another year of Aidoo getting stronger should in theory be good and its not like he will have to worry about guys like Bacot, Edey, Hunter Dickinson or Tolu Smith who he had trouble matching physically

If anyone can do it, I tend to believe that he would be the one to do it.

After all the early season smoke, it was interesting seeing him interact with the team and go through the process of being a part of the team. Saw him a few times after a game, be the "runner" between Barnes and the locker room during the post-game radio show. Saw him interact and laughing with Barnes, even one time saying to what appeared to be a tongue in cheek comment from Barnes "Love you Coach", run back to the locker room and then back to Barnes - then stuck around and signed some autographs for the kids in the corner.

No, I didn't hear specifically what was said, but the demeanor and body language indicated to me at least that there wasn't an animosity between the two and the kid seemed genuinely happy to be part of the program even after the early season setbacks and purported self-owns.

Maybe he does ultimately transfer, but I like the chances of him sticking around just based on anecdotal evidence.

This is pretty much it. Last week was one on one’s. Players like to get in the portal asap after that. They’ve been asked to let coaches know any changes by end of day tomorrow. I read no new entrees as a good sign, but anything could happen.

Am I the only one who doesn't understand where the playing time minutes will come from? Who is going to be relegated to the bench? We have 4 bigs already on the roster. If Awaka, Estrella or Phillips don't play significant minutes I have to believe we will lose them. ZZ of course gets his minutes. We have Gainy, JM, Cam and maybe DJ to fill the 2 and 3 positions. I feel like JM has earned the minutes and Cam is gone if he doesn't get significant playing time. If we add 3 more portal guys, I assume they will get significant minutes. So whose minutes will be dramatically reduced?

Do you realize we're losing 3 starters? A combined 85 mpg + Freddie's 5 mpg. A total of 90 mpg.

You can take 40-50 mpg and give a bump to the returners and still have 40-50 mpg to give to transfers. The 4 bigs will split JJJ's 29 mpg.

The more obvious answer is that somebody is likely gone, it just hasn’t happened yet.

I think it’s possible the coaches have decided that Jonas and Tobe will play together and start (w/ Jonas getting to shoot the 3 a bit to stretch defenses. He needs that to play at the next level anyway)

I’m not guaranteeing they’ll all stay, but I do think that there will be more instances of two bigs on the court at once if the young guys keep progressing. Those minutes obviously climb if they’re spread across two roles instead of one. Estrella and Cade each have a different kind of game than bigs we’ve signed in the past. We’ll get a lot of clues this week from confirmed visits and silence or portal entries.

I'm not really sure why DJ is allowed to stay at this point. Schollys are a precious commodity and keeping someone on one who can't get out of their own way doesn't seem like the best use of it.

PG: ZZ / Boswell
SG: Lanier / Gainey
SF: Thomas or Shack / Carr
PF: Dubar / Cade
C: Aidoo / Awaka / JP

13. Go win the conference again. Or instead of Thomas and Dubar, just one and get Eric Dailey as multi year guy.
One spot left.
