You guys are really slow on the uptake at times. Can't believe I have to explain these posts, but I guess I do. I'm saying that Barnes ain't dumb enough to sit around waiting on Awaka or Aidoo to come running back....BUT if, in some fantasy land he were that stoopid, yeah, he'd deserve canning.

I don’t understand your position on this. Awaka was a stud on the US U19 team last summer. He was quite productive in his minutes for us last season and continued to showcase an improving offense throughout the season. If Estrella / Phillips have matured enough to play 15-20 minutes at the 5, then I think Awaka has shown the ability to handle 20-25 minutes. If Barnes likes Estrella and Phillips, then start Tobe and play him till he picks up 2 fouls then sit him till the second half. Start him the second half and play him till he fouls out. If he knows he’s getting all the minutes he wants, then maybe he will settle down a bit and eliminate a few fouls.

2 of Awaka’s 3 were Edey & Purdue as well.

He is a high effort player and rebounder, I don’t mind him fouling. I just pointed out Aidoo fouled out more often because the narrative has been Tobe fouls too much.

There’s a difference in 10 mpg and 20 mpg that he might have to play. I think anyone that watched the games could tell it was a problem often throughout the year

I just don’t wanna go through a season with undersized Awaka and a unproven JP. Like many have said Awaka fouls quickly, Barnes will pull him quickly, then we’re down to relying on JP.

No thanks. Get someone with proven experience, when I say experience I mean someone that’s not still learning how to play.

Yeah I agree. JP is talented enough to start but I’d rather not be going thru growing pains with those two in the last year for Zeigler, Mashack if he stays, Chas/Dubar if they come here, etc. Tennessee will always have a good team under Barnes but it’s frustrating knowing what this years team could’ve been

I don’t disagree. However, if we landed some big name post player who would appear to be line to start ahead of Estrella, does Estrella decide to look around? Just such a delicate situation right now with this roster. Seems like everyone has an offer on the table to go elsewhere and one mishap will lead to a player leaving for greener pastures.

Hate being so negative about this. Just seems like we were caught with our pants down from a $$$ perspective. And if we aren’t willing to shell out money to keep a guy who, for all the criticism he received, was an all conference player, it’s hard to imagine we will be willing to shell out significant amounts of money for a replacement.

But wouldn’t that kind of be the same thing as if we were to keep Aidoo or Awaka

Awaka undersized? Last I checked he was 6’8” 250 pounds of pure muscle and strong as an Ox. He held up against Broome, Edey, Kalkbrenner, etc better than anybody else on the team.

Got to believe eventually the light will turn with Awaka regarding the fouling issue. That’s one of the more correctable traits you can coach a player out of. Being soft as charmin like Aidoo is not.

I do think Awaka can be coached to foul less, just like I think Uros was coached to get under guys’ skin. Barnes probably valued the aggression over the foul safety with 2-3 good post players
