2024 Transfer Portal

If Abernathy makes it in likes some think, he will give Ant a run for his money.

Levi Clark will give Peebs a run for his money.

Wouldn’t be surprised to see two freshman starting.
Wonder if Clark gets some run at DH with how much power he’s got. Catcher could be a tough position for a true freshman and we’ve got Peebs and Lawless.

If the young fellow can’t hit. He won’t play. He would have been at short this year instead of his freshman team mate if he could hit. No disrespect for AA. He’s a 5 star defender.
But he won’t have to match this years guy to take that spot. CTV does value defense too. His range is incredible and arm holds up too. With no C-MO to beat out for an infield slot he has a chance, new guys and all.

Not sure how things play out if AA if doesn't get injured. But Perfect Game had AA the #34 SS right behind Curley.

Yep he can hit..

Here are three takeaways from the series opener in Smokies Stadium.

Ariel Antigua continues to shine

Starting at shortstop for Team White, Antigua chipped in a 3-for-5 day with two doubles and three RBIs. He also flashed the leather on a double-play ball, spinning to make a throw to first.

Which is exactly what he was going to do before the hand injury.

He can hit. His hand injury prevented that. He’ll be healthy next year.

It's crazy that LSU can spend this money at all. Isn't the state of Louisiana having money problems.

Louisiana is having money problems because of state government policy not the economy.

Lots of oil, natural gas money in Louisiana and on over into the Houston area where LSU has a decent alumni presence.

It would seem absurd what they are doing but they love baseball. I would love to see some data about where they are spreading their money around by sport. I imagine they aren't doing what some of the top tier SEC schools are doing in mens basketball for instance.

Resource allocation is going to be a huge factor competing for titles in the next decade. If you try and spread dollars equally (unless you are Texas) you will likely find yourself not reaching the top in anything.

Always been the case. Most schools in the sec are good at one thing at any given time. Only Florida and LSU have had success in all three major sports at once that I can remember

Obviously besides our recent run

He had a severe ligament injury to his thumb 2 weeks before the season began. He was slated to start at SS before the injury. By the way, he was hitting well before the injury.

LSU is a case study in whether you can consistently purchase National Championships. Those folks are willing to spend irrationally large sums of money trying to reclaim past glory.
The Yankees, Dodgers and many more try to buy the world series every year. Nothing new in baseball or any other sport on any level.

According to what I read in another thread, from a vandee “insider”
😂

Tony V is all about himself and high school coaches despise him and his players hate playing for him, so he’s having to deceive transfers to keep the program going.
But no need to worry because our program is about to crumble because of all the shady doings and selfishness of Tony Vitello.
Their hate is so over the top that it makes them sound pretty silly.

Paying big bucks didn’t help them so much in 2024
They hit the ultimate lottery with Skenes. Unlikely that we will see any other transfer of his ability in the near future. As you said, they bought the farm for 2024 and it was not the best of years for them. Will 2025 be any better for them? Who knows, but I bet they don’t make the CWS.

Don’t know about 2025, but the top recruits they’re managing to keep bode well for their future. Remember, Skenes was complimented by some elite guys they developed like Crews and Tre Morgan. Their recruiting classes for 2024-2026 are elite. And it looks like they’ll be paying enough NIL to keep many of the high end recruits. LSU will be loaded. But that’s fine. So will Tennessee.

They’ll have more really good years than bad, with this model.

Agreed.

In 90s, Delmonico built a team on a lot of Juco guys and it worked but was inconsistent. It appears he starter to try and get away from that with typical high school guys but that's slow going.

Calipari tried to build a dynasty on 1-and-done guys. It worked once and almost 1 or 2 more times but it failed more times than not. That 1 team was a unicorn that likely meshed on own due to the certain type or personalities on that team

LSU had a solid team and really hit a bigger than expected jackpot with Skenes who was far better than anyone expected. The core of their team was those that got there as freshmen.

Now LSU is trying to take the portal shortcut but the portal has found its level now. There are far fewer super talented guys. The staff hoped Holman would be Skenes but he was obviously not up to that role., LSU recruited high school well this year but now are already trying to recruit over them with transfer guys. How long will that business model last.

Most of the core of the Tennessee team were freshman recruits

Curley -Starter
Connell- Best reliever
Moore -Starter
Burke -Starter
Beam -Starter
Ensley -Starter
Tears -Starter
Dreiling -Starter
Chapman - Quality backup
Sechrist -Starter

The D1 transfer starters were Amick, Causey, and Stamos. (Stamos was actually a Grad student so he could have easily transferred under the old rules). Some transfers were HQ relievers and backups. (Snead, Peebles, Bargo)

In 2025, the Vols should still have a core group of high school and JUCO recruits. Antigua, Curley, Loy, Ensley, Chapman, Russell, and Phillips. Then consider the guys who redshirted - or played sparingly and then the incoming freshman and JUCO guys. The transfers are really seasoning or fill-the-gap guys. The 2nd year transfers (Peebles, Snead, Bargo) are important but all three have sport more time in Knoxville than with their old teams)

LSU is expecting- and hoping, that the transfers will be their best players. Tennessee is not.
