I'll say it again. Corbin is a slightly above average coach without that endowment advantage he had for years. The beating out Vandy aspect is pretty nice. I was checking out the Commodore War Room on Rivals the other day, and they were—no joke—cheering the fact that Jordan Beck broke his hand recently. Vandy fans are the sorriest, trashiest bunch of sore losers I've ever seen. Tony Vitello has forced them all into an existential crisis.
I am trying to remember correctly but the state of Nebraska used to have County Agricultural Scholarships that each county could bestow on a worthy individual. Most just happened to be very good football players.I was only a kid at the time, what advantages did Nebraska have at the time?
Yes, in the 80's-90's Nebraska had one of the greatest "walk on" programs in all of college football at the time - and boy most of those walk-ons were extremely large and nasty corn fed young men who absolutely mauled us in the 1998 Orange Bowl game 42-17, which in turn forced us to get extremely serious and revamp our S&C program which had a very positive impact on our '98 National Championship Season!I am trying to remember correctly but the state of Nebraska used to have County Agricultural Scholarships that each county could bestow on a worthy individual. Since these young me went to Lincoln on “non-athletic” scholarships, then the Cornhuskers could spend the actual football scholarships on out of state players. It seemed they used to have about 150 players on the team
Yeah...a lot of those husker linemen were chemistry majors, too.Yes, in the 80's-90's Nebraska had one of the greatest "walk on" programs in all of college football at the time - and boy most of those walk-ons were extremely large and nasty corn fed young men who absolutely mauled us in the 1998 Orange Bowl game 42-17, which in turn forced us to get extremely serious and revamp our S&C program which had a very positive impact on our '98 National Championship Season!

If Bargo can mimic Burke’s early transformation and stop trying to hit the ball 500ft on every swing of the bat, he’ll be fine.Tony has shown a liking to mixing Lefty/righty in lineups as much as possible. My stab would be:
1. Ensley CF
2. Killen 2B
3. Curley 3B
4. Fischer DH
5. Backus RF
6. Rat 1B
7. Peebles C
8. Chapman LF
9. Antigua SS
Bargo could steal Backus or Chapman's spots but I love having him as a super Utility guy.
@Bigvalley84 you are correct.LSU up to 12 portal commits , that just seems like a huge number to me , how’d you like to be a returning player for them , talk about chemistry problems
So, it appears that like Tony Vitello, Jay Johnson has also alienated high school coaches across the country, and is having to build from the portal, which will eventually blow up in his face and LSU will soon be an afterthought in the world of college baseball.@Bigvalley84 you are correct.
For what ever reason, LSU ( in my opinion) appears to be blowing up their roster and starting over completely. You mentioned 12 portal commits and this includes 7 pitchers. They also had 12 players enter the portal and that included 8 pitchers. Some of those pitchers were highly sought after.
Their three starters from the 2024 season are all draft eligible. Gage Jump who didn't pitch in 2023 is expected to be taken in the second round of the MLB draft, although LSU is hopeful he will return. Thatcher Hurd not only is draft eligible he entered his name in the portal on Thursday. Holman ( Alabama transfer) will be selected early in the draft.
Their 2nd ranked recruiting class for the 2025 season has only 16 recruits listed but 10 of them are draft risks as they are ranked in the top 100 recruits.
Their second ranked portal class signed in 2023 for the 2024 season had six players listed and five of those are either draft eligible or out of eligibility. The one player who may return is Kade Woods and he appears to be draft eligible.
LSU head coach Johnson said recently that what he was noted for was building programs. He continued, "That philosophy dosen't work in the current NCAA environment." He now believes you must build one year teams. So, the explosion in Baton Rouge appears to be the demolition of a program in an effort to create a one year team.
Next year, when the camera pans the LSU bench it would not surprise me to see the players with programs trying to determine which teammate is batting.
I think that you have to have a mixture of high school kids and a few portal kids the fill in some holes. I don’t think that you can win consistently with only recruiting one sideSo, it appears that like Tony Vitello, Jay Johnson has also alienated high school coaches across the country, and is having to build from the portal, which will eventually blow up in his face and LSU will soon be an afterthought in the world of college baseball.
I’ll talk with some vandee people to confirm...
TV has alienated high school coaches? So, it appears that like Tony Vitello, Jay Johnson has also alienated high school coaches across the country, and is having to build from the portal, which will eventually blow up in his face and LSU will soon be an afterthought in the world of college baseball.

I think that for the long term health of the program you have to continue to sign and develop high school kidsI for one hope Tony and staff never stop developing the young guys , it’s been a lot of fun seeing Burke, Moore ,Dreilling , Tears and the list just keeps going on and on and on , I know our transfers have had an impact too and I look at multi year transfers as more of a recruit than 1 year fill in the gap player , yeah I’m old school and don’t particularly like the portal but I understand every top program has to use it to stay relevant , I hope our transfers are successful and help us win but am more interested in our young guys growing into major contributors and future draft picks
According to what I read in another thread, from a vandee “insider”TV has alienated high school coaches?
