2024 WNBA Discussion Thread

You couldn't be more wrong about this. No coach has been this completely in control of her since Vic. She says she loves it, she wants to be controlled right now as she learns the W. Curt's problem isn't controlling her, it's controlling her without holding her bank. All the while trying to walk the tank tightrope. Apparently asst coach Nola Henry is doing alot of the film study and one on one coaching with Rickea.
ok

I don't comment that much on this thread, as others here watch a lot more WNBA than me. However, I have been watching Caitlin and Indiana lately, and it is amazing how much better they are getting as the season progresses. I think despite how outstanding Reese has been this year, Caitlin impacts every play and brings out the best of the other players with her full court awareness and brilliant assists. Her role is so much more substantial than Reese's can be due to how central she is to any team she is on. Every ball moves through her and she has quickly learned how the patterns of all of the teammates. At first when she struggled, her team couldn't win and Reese quite rightly was considered the early frontrunner for Rookie of the year. For me, it is not even close anymore. She has improved dramatically over the year and has lifted her team to be one of the better ones in the W.

Oh lawd… now ya done it… 🤣🤙🏼

Great post, I agree. It’s CC all the way. Angels so hard to rate bc she does one thing insanely good. If Rickea keeps playing like she’s playing now she’ll get some votes for second.

CC is owning it right now, Fever up on Sky by 25, CC has 29, Diamond has shown her A by repeatedly bumping CC, and the crowd in Chicago gave Clark a huge ovation at the t.o. I don’t get it but obviously most of the rest of the world does.

Spoon left Angel in at mop up time to get her umpteenth double double

After those opening 7 games, the fever have had the 3rd best win % in the league, Clark really started finding her groove with her teammates in the few weeks before the Olympics and she has kept it going since. It is impressive how she added a mid range game during the season. The ROY seemed close during Angels double double streak but, yes, Clarke has now separated. It would not be crazy for to pickup a few MVP votes.

Can I have your analysis on the #5 pick Jacy Sheldon, she’s scored 0 points the last 2 games and the 2nd point guard taken in the draft?

She plays on a team with a ball hog that shoots every time she touches the rock.
I watch them because I watch Satou Sabally. Sheldon has plenty of chances since she’s the Pg to do something. I’m just wondering why I don’t hear anything negative about a player doing nothing and was taken top 5 in the draft. My opinion if]s if your taken top 5 u should be a franchise player. As an example Rickea‘s a franchise player and showing more everyday.

Examine the cornucopia of variables. If she doesn’t pan out, she doesn’t pan out. Rickea struggled mightily to start the season.

And 3 games ago she had 8 assists and only 1 turnover in a win and we didn't hear much about that? Seems like she has had a reasonably solid rookie season and for 2 games her minutes and production are down. Sounds the alarms? There might not be 5 "franchise players" in a given draft. I don't think anyone expected that level out of her. Dallas needed a PG, they apparently thought she was the best option available, but I don't think anyone ever got the impression she was gonna elevate Dallas to new heights. That's what Arike and Sabally are there for.

I don’t mind that she’s had up and down games because she’s a rookie, but I notice one player taken out of the top 5, and to a rebuilding team is criticized every bad game or for any other reason, I just want things to be consistent for everyone.

I would rather the balancing avenue be not criticizing the other player you are referring to (Angel) rather than piling criticism on everyone. I'd argue give Reese grace for bad games more so than tear down her fellow rookies to even the score. That's what I'd like to see.

The point is just treat everyone equally, but I don’t want to tear anyone down. Just let them all play and get better.

I’m hesitant to put that all on a rookie. Coaches? Teammates? Mgmt expectations for success vs take a tank?
