2024 WNBA Discussion Thread

I don't think either are actual dirty players, both about equal on the chippy and chirpy scale. Both very emotional and demonstrative on court, both fond of the well placed elbow, shove, arm bar. Angel carries the same brashness off court, Clark tends to be much more passive and guarded off court. She actually hasn't said much of anything.

Thomas' hit on Angel was probably worse than anything Clark has taken but it's hard to tell bc Clark exaggerates her falls so much. Clark gets hit alot more frequently though bc she plays more minutes, has the ball in her hands more, and bc Angel is so much bigger and stronger than Clark. IMO Clark's scrawney build is always going to be a problem for her.

I read an interesting take today that said the jealousy among the vets is not just about the rookies' hype and credit for interest in the league, but also about thier NIL wealth. Clark and Reese in particular are rolling in as NIL millionaires several times over, something most of the vets never had a shot at.
I don’t think either is a dirty player, I just get frustrated when people talk nonsense.

I agree with marina angel gone learn which refs accept what but they could’ve at least told tspoon why she got double techs she said in the post game she asked the refs what happend and they didn’t tell her..but shout out to lonzo😂

Shout out to the enabler of poor sportsmanship? You do you.

“Lead official Maj Forsberg told reporters after the game that Reese's technical fouls were for "disrespectfully addressing" the official and then for "waving her hand in dismissal." “

So, big surprise. Angel doesn't like a simple reach in call and curses out the ref. She has an image to protect. It cost her a few hundred bucks and an ejection. She can afford to pay the measly fine from her many millions in endorsement deals. Lonzo, oh so chivalrous, teaches us that bad behavior doesn't have consequences. Yawn.

Why would the bother telling Spoon? All she gonna do is make excuses for her trashy players.

I’ve always been a tspoon fan but there is a fine line between gritty and dirty. Her team is foul mouthed and foul playing.

DT curses all the time it’s cool man
And she’ll know she can’t curse around that ref

She just wanted to know what happened every coach does have the right to know why they player got thrown out and all the players on the court looked confused

Nah no official owes her an explanation after that ish last week.

Would have been easy to do the right thing but she doubled down on the bad behavior of Carter and Reese.

Now look what happened, a double tech and ejection. It’s not unlike parenting, if you don’t address the problem the first time it will only get worse.

well if that’s the case no coach don’t need to ask no ref nothing

But it’s cool it’ll get paid off🤷🏽‍♀️

She got ejected for waving off the ref and saying "that's bulls**t" after having already turning around and walking away. It was a weak, nonsense call. Even Sabrina Ionescu was wondering why Angel Reese got ejected. It's helpful to watch video instead of imagining scenarios.

Sometimes it’s cumulative. She may have been warned multiple times during the game and that was the last straw.

At this point I’m not willing to stick up for Angel. It’s one step forward, two steps back with her all the time.

You don't have to like or stick up for her at all, I'm not at all her biggest fan, but I'm not interested in encouraging bad officiating just because it's a player people dislike. When people on the opposing team think it's a nonsense call, that says alot.

It had to be an last-straw-type of call, because that one mouthing-off, and then behind-the-back-style waving off, of the ref alone wasn't much at all to my eye. Seems likely to have been a belated reaction to having finally gotten fed up with stuff that had happened before then.

it's so odd what's happening to me, and makes me wonder if it's happening to others. This season started out with me being so excited about it. I even campaigned for folks to give the WNBA a fair shot to see if they could develop an appreciation for it.

But I swear, I'm quickly getting sick of the whole thing. All the pettiness. The jealousy. The overinflated egos. The constant whining to the officials. The uptick in "lesson fouls." The disingenuous concerns being expressed by some male TV sports personalities regarding women in sports. The confusing TV scheduling. The silly obsession with pre-game "fits" ... everything.

I'm losing my WNBA religion over here, and it's making me sad.

Im right there with you. Since Candace retired I really don’t have any one team to cheer for either.

I love our Lady Vols but I hate the way the Storm, Sky and Sparks play and that is where our best players are.

I thought Jordy could become a franchise player for the Storm as recent as two weeks ago but really think she needs to find a new home next season. They want their entire offense to come from 3 or Ezzi in the paint and that just isn’t Jordy’s game. Gonna be hard for her to find longterm success there. Maybe the Mystics or Liberty?

Probably enjoy the Aces the most and I do really appreciate Aja Wilson. She lets her game do the talking and is generally a very classy gal.

I'm definitely sick of the weird think pieces and toxic discussions recently, but it hasn't dampened my enjoyment of the league at all personally
Agreed! I’m obvi still perusing this thread, but I’ve disconnected from a lot of the think pieces and cultural takes to just enjoy the basketball. The Storm have been a real fav of mine this year, and I’m trying to hop over to Atlanta for a Dream game for my bday. Between this and the NWSL, I can watch pro womens sports almost every night, which I never would have envisioned as a kid.

I quit watching the NBA years ago bc of all the bitching to refs about calls, or at least that was one of the reasons. I still always watch the NBA finals, but rarely will I watch an NBA regular season game. After trying to watch some of these early WNBA games, the bitching at refs is just too much. I will try and keep watching but the product so far just hasn't been fun to watch with so many replays for fouls and seems like every other play a player is running down the court complaining to a ref. No thanks.

I hope you get to go for your birthday! I’ve only been to Liberty games, but have had a blast each time.
