2024 WNBA Discussion Thread

Did I suggest that you should not post? You seem to be confusing disagreement with censorship and oppression (an all too common error).

You asserted that everyone commenting on the media coverage of this Carter-Clark kerfuffle are media dupes living in some kind of denial about the racial subtext.

If you express such a "free thinking" opinion, it seems hypocritical to whine about it when someone begs to differ.

Your framing seems to be "my thoughts are free thinking" and "anyone who disagrees with me is a media controlled sheeple". Such a stance is not conducive to any kind of dialogue.
You’re right. Can we take this conversation to the baseball forum...
😁

The ugly truth is that Caitlin Clark is the victim of jealous, Race-Baiting WNBA bullies who can't stand to see her win. But, says TIM HOWARD, here's how she should fight back...

WNBA rookie-phenom Caitlin Clark must have known that she had it coming.

And did it have anything to do with Clark being one of the first white superstars in the WNBA?

I’m loathe to wade into any of the discourse (tho i’ve been loving watching the W so far this season), but I appreciated the acknowledgment that Angel has also been abused on the court.

That’s the link I posted, it’s a good read, and shows how they edit her interviews without giving the full statement.

Nah. Not to the same level. Sorry.

There was one play. Clark is taking shots play after play after play. Reese is also a relatively dirty player herself so what she gets she usually has coming.

Clarks worst offense is creating space when people are draped all over her. Which is why the officials let her get away with that arm bar she does (she’s very careful not to extend the arm). Really they should be calling the cylinder rule fouls and getting people off her.

Nobody wants to pay to watch the best shooter in the league get hammered every time she touches the ball.

When’s the last time you saw a hard foul on Curry?

Clark is a dirty player, and Reese has been getting abused and she hasn’t complained once. She just takes it and she will get stronger.

She is not one of the first white superstars in the WNBA.

Taurasi has been around a long time; Breanna Stewart has been a superstar throughout her entire career; Sue Bird had been the face of the league for a long, long time; Sabrina Ionescu had more hype as a rookie than any player prior to Clark.

I do love how the Daily Mail imposed a click-baiting, "hot button" headline on Howard's opinion piece which was pretty measured in its tone.

I don't think Clark or Reese deserve the dirty player label. There just aren't many WNBA players who legitimately can be branded as cheap shot artists.

Alyssa Thomas is definitely one and Chennedy Clarke seems to be another. I can't think of too many others.

Using your body to gain an advantage is not dirty play. What Thomas did to Candace, where there was a clear intention to injure through unnecessary contact, now that's dirty

I will say this. I don't think a WNBA thread, during the regular season, has ever gotten this much posting action in the past.

It is usually a pretty dead thread until the playoffs kick in.

Sophie Cunningham is another. Well, at least she used to be. I don't often watch Phoenix play anymore so she may have cleaned it up, I don't know.

Alyssa Thomas is flat-out dangerous.

Sophie hasn't changed, not about to. Ditto for DT. Add super mouthy Cloud and the Mercury are unwatchable. AT is super talented but super detestable.

Speaking of AT, the 0-8 Washington Mystics are leading the 8-0 Suns by a point at halftime. It will never hold, but I would love the Mystics to pull it off. Edwards had a big first half.

Welp that didn't last long. Sun spanking Mystics in second half.

Liberty is equally spanking the Sky in Chicago. Kamilla cutting into Angel's mins. Both Izzy and Diamond playing alot and pretty well so far. Kennedy Carter is playing so well, if only she can get her head on straight.

Later tonight Skylar Diggins will return to Phoenix, where she didn't exactly get a fond farewell. Got into an altercation w DT on the bench, accused the organization of bullying her and denying her access while pregnant. No end to the drama in the W!

I don't think either are actual dirty players, both about equal on the chippy and chirpy scale. Both very emotional and demonstrative on court, both fond of the well placed elbow, shove, arm bar. Angel carries the same brashness off court, Clark tends to be much more passive and guarded off court. She actually hasn't said much of anything.

Thomas' hit on Angel was probably worse than anything Clark has taken but it's hard to tell bc Clark exaggerates her falls so much. Clark gets hit alot more frequently though bc she plays more minutes, has the ball in her hands more, and bc Angel is so much bigger and stronger than Clark. IMO Clark's scrawney build is always going to be a problem for her.

I read an interesting take today that said the jealousy among the vets is not just about the rookies' hype and credit for interest in the league, but also about thier NIL wealth. Clark and Reese in particular are rolling in as NIL millionaires several times over, something most of the vets never had a shot at.

Angel keepin it classy

This Sky team reminds me of Memphis in the NBA a few seasons ago. They just need to add Riquana Williams and they’re complete.
